SENSIO Technologies Inc, creator of the SENSIO® 3D technology will present the complete
range of its 3D products at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2009 (CES). From the
encoder and decoder that enable live broadcasting of 3D events to the software solution for
watching pre-recorded 3D content, or 3D content streamed via the Internet, on PCs,
SENSIO® 3D technology has something for everyone. "Last year we presented the very first
High Definition 3D consumer solution and this year we are once again innovating by presenting
professional and consumer products that meet, and sometimes even surpass, industry requirements and
standards", says Nicholas Routhier, SENSIO's President and CEO.
Live 3D: the latest trend
SENSIO® 3D technology will be used in Cinedigm's CineLiveTM digital cinema product to
broadcast tonight's football game in 3D in 80 digital movie theaters across the United States. This
technology enables live broadcasting of stereoscopic content in movie theaters and, shortly, in
homes, through pay-per-view television or video on demand. "This event is the best type of
demonstration; it allows us to show that our technology is mature, reliable and, above all, ready
to be used now", says Nicholas Routhier.
The SENSIO® 3D encoder card and decoding IP, which have been used jointly with the
satellite broadcasting technology of International Datacasting Corporation for the sporting event
broadcast, are being demonstrated in the SENSIO suite at the Flamingo hotel (room Carson I).
Through the system of 3D cameras, the encoder and the decoder, visitors can film themselves and
watch themselves live in three dimensions on an LCD HD television.
Innovation: 3D software for PCS
SENSIO® 3D technology is now available as software. It can fit into any media playing
software, enabling 3D content to be watched on a computer with a 2D or 3D screen. For the S3D
demonstration in the SENSIO suite, 3D content is streamed via internet on a PC and is decoded and
displayed using the software. This innovation enables live 3D broadcasting of sporting events,
concerts and more through the Internet, making large-scale access to these events possible.
Previews of other Hollywood content
SENSIO is once again presenting trailers from some of the big Hollywood studios' most recent 3D
productions, as it has done at every CES exhibition; accordingly, trailers from Universal Studios'
Coraline and nWave Pictures' Fly me to the Moon will be presented. In addition, visitors will be
able to watch live content from Inition, such as hockey, tennis, rugby and boxing.

3D isn't just for the movie theaters anymore; very soon viewers will be able to enjoy a true 3D
experience right in their own home. Next3D has developed a ground-breaking technology that allows
consumers to receive theatrical 3D films, 3D IMAX films, movie trailers, real-time stereo camera
webcasts and other 3D content directly to their XBOX 360 or PC. "We believe that gaming is likely
to drive stereoscopic technology into the home," says David Cole, CEO of Next 3D, "and we'll be
there to complete the media experience."
In an effort to prepare for the expected demand, Hollywood is now releasing big-budget 3D movies at
the rate of one per month and professional sporting events are being broadcast in 3D. Low-cost 3D
cameras and even 3D web-cams are becoming available. This week at the Consumer Electronics Show in
Las Vegas, many top television manufacturers around the world including Sony, LG, and Panasonic
will be announcing 3D ready TV's, and both Samsung and Mitsubishi have already shipped an estimated
2 million 3D ready plasmas and DLP-based TV's.
Next3D content is encoded with a tool that allows it to be viewed in full stereoscopic 3D 1080P
high-definition. Like YouTube, Next3D will offer user-created content channels for stereo
enthusiasts to post and share 3D video and still images. Premium, pay-to-view content channels will
also be available by mid-year. Initial Next3D content providers include rights holders to 3D IMAX
films, theatrical 3D films, and movie trailers. The Next3D Movie Player will be free to consumers
on every platform. "Remember how iTunes revolutionized getting the music you want?" adds D.J.
Roller, Co-founder of Next3D, "That's how easy we're making 3D."
The Next3D Player will be available for XBOX 360s and PCs this spring. For more information visit

Meant to Be Seen, the foremost authority group on stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) gaming and home
entertainment has announced the completion of the U-DECIDE Initiative, the most credible study of
what customers think of 3D entertainment technologies and why. A brief synopsis of the additional
contents of the U-DECIDE Initiative report will be made available at the iZ3D Inc. meeting room
#25118M in the Gaming Showcase downstairs, South Hall 2, Las Vegas Convention Center.
"While CES is going to be filled with a lot of ideas and wishes for the 3D industry, dreams can
only be made into reality if demand can be demonstrated. We now have the smoking gun to accomplish
this from the only people whose opinion matters - our industry's customers," said Neil Schneider,
President & CEO of Meant to be Seen.
Stereoscopic 3D refers to the ability to display true volumetric 3D content through 2D media.
Examples include explosions that pop out of the screen, and a sense of depth that makes viewers
think they can reach inside the display.
Made possible with the assistance of AMD, iZ3D, Blitz Games Studios, The Game Creators and Guild
Software, the U-DECIDE final report will determine what customers think of 3D entertainment, and
will dispel the leading myths and assumptions about the technology.
Customer opinions were captured in two separate online surveys. One was for traditional gamers who
don't yet own 3D display equipment, and the other was for experienced stereoscopic 3D gamers and
consumers. Each respondent was required to answer 26 multipart questions, and there were well over
seven hundred surveys completed (60% 2D, 40% S-3D gamers).
A staggering 65% of 2D respondents find 3D "intriguing" and 27% more say 3D is "must have"
technology. Less than 4% think 3D is "tacky," and just over 5% think it "sounds uncomfortable" -
very low compared to what is often assumed of consumers.
3D glasses are regularly cited as a handicap to the at-home 3D market, yet only 12% of 2D customers
object to 3D glasses for video games - content that is widely available today. This climbs to
almost 30% for 3D broadcast television, with Blu-ray movies falling in-between with 16% glasses
objection. Experienced 3D customers are more forgiving with just a 3% objection level for video
games, 4% for Blu-ray, and 12% for broadcast television.
All respondents were nearly unanimous about video games with an 87% suitability rating by 2D, and
nearly 96% rating by experienced 3D gamers. Without yet owning the technology for themselves, 93%
of 2D customers want game developers to officially support true 3D in their games, and this climbs
to 99% amongst 3D gamers. Suitability of 3D Blu-ray movies and 3D broadcasts were far more
selective, and an in-depth analysis will be found in the final report.
Other findings include brand awareness of twenty different products/companies in the 3D marketplace
according to both 2D and S-3D gamers. For example, the awareness range for products with 2D gamers
was 4% to 54%, and Meant to be Seen scored over 40% amongst 2D gamers. This climbed to over 60%
amongst S-3D gamers in a possible range of 8% to 68%.
Leading brands surveyed include iZ3D, NVIDIA, Mitsubishi, Samsung, RealD, Dolby 3D, DDD, Philips,
Texas Instruments, Viewsonic and more.
"This is a bombshell. First, the game developers are only now waking up to the possibilities of 3D,
and the manufacturers are disproportionately spending their resources on the home 3D cinema market.
Second, there is clearly a disconnect between what customers think and what many believe they
think. And third, the content makers are weighing their futures on distant glasses-free
technologies that consumers aren't asking for. It's clear that the sooner we all listen to our
customers, the better," Schneider explained.
Nearly 60 participant winners have been drawn for a wide selection of prizes including iZ3D 3D
monitors, ATI GPUs, and a wide selection of video games by Blitz Games Studios, The Game Creators,
and Guild Software.
Graphics charts are available for download from mtbs3D.com in the U-DECIDE sub-menu, and the
complete report is expected to be available for distribution on January 26th, 2009.

TDVision Systems, Inc., the leader in design and development of 3D digital infrastructures and
visualization systems will be showcasing the TDVCodec encoding and decoding system for High
Definition 3D Digital Video streams that supports Blu-Ray™ and broadcast at up to
1920x1080p resolution per-eye at CES 2009. The theme of the demonstration is "encode once and
deploy anywhere."
"Stereoscopic HD3D is here. TDVision set the bar almost a year ago at CES and then in April 2008,
presenting the working implementation of the TDVCodec running on a Blu-Ray™ disc and a
3D Ready DLP at NAB. Now we have optimized our systems and we are proud to demonstrate that this
can be in your home today, working over existing pipelines, running on every existing and future 3D
display at the best native resolution, even in 2D HD for backwards compatibility." said Manuel
Gutierrez, President and CEO of TDVision. "TDVision's patented technology has also been implemented
as Intra-view coding in the MVC MPEG4 H.264 extension recommendation initiative by comparing the
difference between left and right channels. This eliminates redundant information and optimizes the
bandwidth required for a given infrastructure such as cable, satellite, ATSC 1.0/2.0 and
Blu-ray™ disc. The TDVCodec is the best and only way to deploy HD 3D with no loss in
color, quality, frame rate or resolution. All other existing technologies like spatial squeezing or
display pre-formatted techniques defeat the purpose of realistic 3D imagery by cutting resolution
in more than half and at times showing only 25 percent of the original pixels after formatting and
presenting to a 3D Ready Display. TDVision has simply created the first class and preeminent codec
that provides full 100% 1080p per eye as close as possible to the original content," he
continued.
"People use our high quality XpanD glasses in the theater and in the home to watch exceptional
content in the best quality possible, that's why the TDVision System is so appealing to consumers
that won't except anything less than true high definition 3D," said Ami Dror of XpanD.
Attendees at CES 2009 will experience at the show high quality cinematic content encoded in the
TDVision format playing back on a variety of devices including Texas Instruments™
enabled DLP, provided by Mitsubishi™, in conjunction with high quality shutter glasses
from XpanD, 3D enabled LCD (passive glasses) from Hyundai™, a Planar™
display and all the way up to a Dual Projector System provided by Scalable Display Technologies
running at full 1920x1080p per-eye. TDVision will also be showing the TDVirtualCam gaming
technology which accurately emulates the way the eyes and brain perceive 3D information allowing
for a very comfortable and engaging gaming experience on the XBOX® platform.
TDVision invites all CES visitors to the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, lower level at
exhibit #21425 and see for themselves.

Two new exhibitions will take place at Portland's 3D Center starting on January 2nd, 2009:
'Avshalom Cave' by Yitzhak Weissman
The Stalactite Cave Nature Reserve (also called Soreq Cave) is dedicated to the memory of Avshalom
Shoham. The 82-meter-long, 60-meter-wide cave is on the western slopes of the Judean Hills outside
the city of Beit Shemesh. It was discovered accidentally by workers blasting at a nearby quarry in
1968. Although the Soreq Cave is relatively small, the variety of its formations rivals that seen
in much larger stalactite caves.
The stalactites hanging from the ceiling of the cave are up to four meters long and on occasion
meet up with stalagmites growing from the floor. Stalactites range in diameter from a few
millimeters to a few meters. Some look like everyday objects - shelves, sheets of cloth, branches,
and coral - and others have shapes never before seen. A number of the stalactites and stalagmites
are still active.
The exhibition consists of 16 large anaglyph prints and runs through March 1st, 2009.
'Ennis House' by Tom Koester
"Ennis House" presents an in depth look at this famous and monumental Frank Lloyd Wright house of
the 1920's. Although seen in many movies, from "Grand Canyon" and "Blade Runner" to the original
"House On Haunted Hill," it has been closed to the public for over 2 decades.
Besides offering a thorough, up close and personal tour of this house in 3D, the film deals with
its origins and construction, modifications made by a Hollywood producer in the 1940's, earthquake
damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake, and the subsequent reconstruction and restoration. The
film premiered at the 2007 Frank Lloyd Wright Conservancy Conference in Chicago in both 3D and 2D
on side-by-side screens.
Frank Lloyd Wright has been quoted as saying, "The only way to photograph architecture is in 3
dimensionsÂ…" This film, shot in Hi Def Digital 3D, would seem to be proof of that
statement.
This movie is on show at the 3D Center until February 1st, 2009.
The 3D Center also houses a collection of antique and contemporary stereo cameras, viewers and
other devices. Information panels and interactive displays explain the phenomenon of 3D vision. The
Center's collection of stereocards are available for viewing and the reference library is open to
visitors. There are daily 3D slide projections.
Open Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 5pm, Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. First Thursday 6-9pm. Admission
$5 adult (over 15), Free all day First Thursdays. 1928 NW Lovejoy, Portland/Oregon, USA. Tel.: 1

Stereo 3D broadcasting came another step closer earlier this month with the live Stereo 3D
broadcast of the Oakland Raiders vs San Diego Chargers NFL game, which was produced by 3ality
Digital and presented in three RealD-enabled theatres in the U.S. to an audience of invited guests
on December 4th 2008.
Behind the scenes, 3ality Digital's SIP2100 stereoscopic analysis and correction systems and
Quantel stereoscopic Pablo systems were used to post-produce a series of 3D graphic inserts for
playback at sponsor venues during the live 3D broadcast.SIP 2100 The inserts came from a variety of
sources and were background loaded, edited, color corrected and finished on a tight deadline on
Pablo systems belonging to PlasterCITY Digital Post and 3ality Digital, with SIP2100s being used in
the edit suites for all aspects of stereoscopic image analysis, especially in ‘handing
off' – the process of smoothly adjusting z-space across edits. PlasterCITY is a
leading digital post-production house located in Hollywood, California that specializes in
file-based lab services for film, video, or tapeless post.
"Combining these two systems allowed us to finish quickly and accurately, which fit well with our
tight timetable. Previously, working with graphics inserts have been very difficult when working in
Stereo," said Steve Schklair, CEO of 3ality Digital Systems. "Working the two systems in tandem
eliminated the need for stereoscopic trial and error. Pablo's stereo toolset, especially its live
convergence and ability to work with both eyes simultaneously, meant we could hit our deadlines,
and the SIP2100's real-time image processing meant we got it right first time because we could see
exactly what we were doing in Stereo."
Michael Cioni, PlasterCITY Founder and Digital Intermediate Supervisor added, "What was achieved on
an accelerated timeline with the Pablos and SIPs at PlasterCITY and 3ailty Digital is a glimpse at
the future of Stereoscopic Broadcast post production. Specifically, it's early evidence that some
of the questions people have about the practical feasibility of Stereoscopic Broadcasting are being
answered today. The bottom line is that, as an industry, if we want to seize the opportunities
offered by 3D broadcast, the toolset to make it a working reality is already available."

RealD Pro, the world's most trusted 3D visualization source for industrial applications, has
introduced the first 3D stereoscopic converter 'PODs.' The PODs present a simple conversion
solution when upgrading to a new stereoscopic display monitor, such as a DLP(R) or XPOL HDTV.
The PODs automatically detect the output format from a connected display device and convert most
stereo-enabled software applications from native stereoscopic output format to the required format
for stereo viewing on the display monitor.
The RealD converter POD provides an immediate, affordable replacement option for CRT or LCD monitor
users. When combined with DLP(R) TV kits available from RealD Pro, the user simply plugs the source
data into the input port on the POD via an HDMI cable and the output HDMI cable into the 3D-ready
HD TV.
The 3D converter PODs are designed specifically for research and development environments, where 3D
visualization is heavily used and where departments or organizations are seeking alternatives to
CRT display technology for stereoscopic applications. Industries include government and defense,
entertainment, oil and gas, education, design and development, and medical.
The RealD 3D-PODs make this transition fast, easy, and inexpensive. The 3D-PODs also enable
development teams to more easily present their work in front of customers or senior management,
providing greater collaboration, improving productivity, reducing prototype expenses and
accelerating time to market.
"RealD's introduction of 3D-POD technology brings yet another tool to the industry, cost
effectively facilitating 3D visualization," said Michael Lewis, CEO of RealD. "As a leader in 3D
visualization systems, RealD is committed to bringing new products to market that will enhance our
customers' abilities and services."
The three PODs include dual input to checkerboard, side-by-side to horizontal interlace or
checkerboard, and page-flip to checkerboard:
-- Dual Input POD - a flexible dual stream video format conversion system that converts a dual
stream of data into a checkerboard output for visualization in stereo or as simultaneous
independent video streams using RealD's new CrystalEyes 5 active eyewear. This POD also supports
side-by-side conversion when using just a single input.
-- Side-by-Side (SBS) 3D-POD - receives and transmits a single HDMI compatible audio / video
signal. When the content is received in RealD SBS format, it is automatically converted into either
checkerboard or horizontal interlace format, depending on the connected display device.
-- Page Flip 3D-POD - converts a page-flip (frame sequential) stereo output to a checkerboard
format for display on a DLP(R) TV. This POD is ideal for stereoscopic software applications used
with CRTs.
The RealD 3D-PODs are available through RealD PRO. For further information please visit http://www.reald-corporate.com/scientific
