The KM35 is an interesting portable TV and WiFi-enabled PMP. It doesn’t have a price yet
but the Windows CE operating system is
reminiscent of the most interesting Chinese MP4-slash-pocket PCs we’ve featured before on
PMP Today. The KM35 is a 3.5-inch QVGA player with optional DVB-T/H, ISDB-T or T-DMB TV tuners.
There’s also FM and SD expansion for the onboard 4GB or 8GB memory. The wood finish should
tell you this will make a great in-car accessory.
OpenClip is not an app,
but rather a community who, like everyone else, wants to have Cut/Paste functionality in the
iPhone/iPod Touch. So much so that they’ve taken the initiative to make this a reality by
sharing their knowledge with others so that developers can integrate this feature into their
software. No need to jailbreak
or download a particular plug-in to avail of this feature. Just get yourself one of the participating apps, and you can use cut/paste in the app
itself as well as with the others in the select group.
Kudos to these guys for taking the time and effort to bring this desired functionality to the
iPhone even if it’s limited to a handful of apps only. I wonder when will Apple finally
come to their senses and make it an official feature on the device?
If HTC has the Touch Diamond
then the Dual SIM Diamond is its cubic zirconia equivalen. Retailing only at
₤ 120.46 ($178) as opposed to the ₤ 421.60 original
price of the HTC Touch Diamond, it’s very tempting to look at the phone as good enough for
that special someone. On board is slot for two SIMs, a 2.0 MP camera, Bluetooth and support for
3GP ,MP4 video files. This is not a fast phone as it can only connect you to GPRS networks unlike
the HSDPA-enabled HTC Touch Diamond but the look from front to back is pretty close to the
original.
T3 just happened to trip on a virtually unknown and visited site that features a countdown for an
unreleased phone. Called the 01 Phone, it appears to be full-touchscreen with a sliding portion.
It also has a front-facing camera for conference calls. As of this writing, there is only 27 days
till unveiling, too long really for any other gadget but The 01 Phone looks to be worth it.
Eee PC maker Asus is
making good use of money earned from selling netbooks. They’ve been experimenting like no
other laptop maker and has come up with 27 (?) Eee PC models so far and now scented laptops. The
F6 is not a netbook but a full-size 13.3-inch laptop with up to 4GB of RAM and 320 GB of memory.
They come in Floral Blossom (evokes summer parties), Musky Black (musky and sporty), Mountain Due
(refreshing nature), Aqua Ocean (their aquatic scent). Well, except for the Musky Black system
they all sound pretty good smelling to me.
Apple may not have been very happy with the iPod
Nano 3G, other wise known as fatty, because they are going back to the old long rectangular
design of the iPod Nano 2G. The device will look more like the flash Zune. In fact all iPods will be redesigned, says Kevin Rose, the
originator of the new iPod rumors. The iPod Touch will slightly change but the biggest change of
all will be on the Nano design. With the old tall form factor back and a longer screen, it can
only mean landscape mode support. More Kevin Rose rumors: iPod pricing drops, iTunes 8.0 and iPod
2.1 software all coming in about 3 weeks.
Coinciding with the debut of the new look of their web portal, Facebook has also announced that
version 2.0 of the iPhone/iPod Touch app will arrive in the
App Store in September. They’ve also made available preview screen shots of what we can
expect from the latest update to the social networking app specially designed for Apple’s
premier mobile device.
This little app is by far one of the coolest things we’ve seen done for the iPhone, but
aside from drawing those jaw-dropping reactions from your friends, it pretty much belongs to the
not-so-productive
bunch of the group. Created by David OReilly, the illusion is created using a technique
called anomorphosis which basically fools you into seeing 3D objects instead of 2D drawings. A
constant 35-45 degree viewing angle is key for this to work and when paired with the
iPhone’s accelerometer, it does just that by adjusting the image accordingly whenever you
tilt or move the device.
Too bad it isn’t available yet in both the App Store and Cydia/Installer.app as this looks
destined to be a hit. It’s simple amazing what a little imagination and some technical
expertise can do when you put the iPhone into the picture.
The Acer
Aspire One, one of the cheapest mini-notebooks, out there has just gotten even cheaper and a
little better. Acer has thrown in a 6-cell battery and reduced pricing for its netbook, making
the Aspire One a very smart choice for both Windows XP (now $350) and Linu (now $330). The 6-cell
version will retail for $400, th original price of the 3-cell battery. I’m betting this
development from Acer has something to do with the imminent launch of the Dell Inspiron 910
netbook.
Though the iMovieT8 is not a gaming PMP, its makers RAmos is convinced they have a battle to win against the
Sony PSP. Obviously, the iMovie T8 is a more
pocket-friendly device. It’s half as thick as the PSP and as a touchscreen device
doesn’t need as many buttons. In fact, it’s hard to understand what RAmos is getting
at by putting the two devices side-by-side but click the link below to find out more anyway.
It looks like Intel’s Classmate PC is getting a new sibling in the form of a convertible
tablet PC. Aptly named the Intel Classmate Tablet, this new iteration of Intel’s netbook
sports an 8.9-inch touch screen and sports a more modern color scheme. It also comes with
technology that’ll improve tablet functionality such as a built-in accelerometer to
automatically change the screen orientation, palm rejection which allows your hand to touch the
display without having it interfere with handwriting recognition, and a GUI overlay for easy
access to most used applications.
Now here’s an unboxing of the famous iMovie
T8 PMP from RAmos. We’ve had a video demo of the RAmos T8
posted for you before but B4tech has a more thorough examination of the device. It should be
available there now for $139.99 (8GB). This is a 4.3-inch touchscreen PMP with an FM tuner and
Microsoft PlayFX supporting a variety of media files: RM, RMVB, AVI, DIVX, XVID, FLV, DAT, ASF,
MP4, WMV, 3GP, MPG , SWF, MP3, WMA, WMA/VBR, APE, FLAC , AAC, JPEG, BMP, GIF, TXT.
Want a little personal touch to your new iPhone
3G? Who doesn’t. Well, the people at
Foxconn, has an ingenious solution. I don’t know if this is officially supported by Hon
Hai precision or by Apple. For all we know, the super cute girl of Hon Hai Precision above (with
the striped pink hat and making two peace signs) has already been… ehem…
“freed” by Hon Hai. Hope they keep her. She is one reason to love the iPhone 3G.
Between 1,000 and 10,000 Globe Telecom subscribers have made reservations for the iPhone 3G in the Philippines and they were given two
options: get the iPhone 3G on the 22nd when Globe service centers open or have the iPhone 3G
delivered to their doorsteps at MIDNIGHT today. My sources say it’s Globe staffers
themselves who will go to your house or apartment (or a special courier service if you are
somewhere remote).
The iPhone 3G in the Philippines is exclusive to Globe and imported iPhones will not work in the
network. Due to negative reactions when Globe announced their pricing, the pay-as-you-go pricing
for the iPhone 3G has been lowered to Php37,599 ($827) for 8GB and Php43,799 ($963) for 16GB.
Korea’s Meritech has a unique-looking touchscreen PMP for us. On the other hand, besides
the metallic frame around the screen, the Meritech M35 does not really possess too much
originality. It has a 3.5-inch touch screen, a PND-type user-interface and a DMB TV tuner. It has SRS WOW
HD and support for MP3, WMA, ASF, OGG, APE and FLAC. It’s pricey with the 8GB costing $179
and the 16GB $217.
Just as the title states, QuickPwn is the fastest and easiest way to Pwn your
iPhone/iPod Touch without having to go through the tedious process of a full restore through
iTunes. However, it’s currently limited to Windows and firmware 2.0.1. Those who are on
another OS or have already upgraded to
2.0.2 will have to wait for the next version to come out. Those on 2.0 but don’t want
to upgrade to 2.0.1, there’s still the old
method you can use.
QuickPwn is still in a beta phase and will need the full Pwn tool
installed for it to work. While originally it didn’t feature a GUI, poorlad managed to create one for
everyone’s enjoyment. Unlocking, unfortunately,
still isn’t supported. Want to try it out? Download it here.
Overall, despite the many limiteations, this is a welcome development as the old process was very
cumbersome and time-consuming to say the least. Hpefully, when the next version comes out,
it’ll support for various firmware and be a stand-alone app as well. Great job guys, keep
it coming!
Sony has announced PSP-3000. The new Playstation Portable is the exact likeness
of the old but with a better screen and built-in mic. Further details have yet to be announced.
Pricing of the PSP-3000 is expected to be around 199 euros or $291.
Unboxing videos are a tradition in the gadget world, but Samsung has outdone everyone. The phone
is great and all: DivX playback, 5 megapixel camera, WinMo 6.1, etc, but what separates the
Omnia from other phones is the special care the
manufacturer gives to the user experience out of the box.
The Meizu M8
is fast closing on its launch date. Meizu CEO Jack Wong has released more photos of the phone and
have a message” “Because everyone is used to calling it m8, we stopped using the
minione name.
The 3-button design meant the buttons were too small to be comfortably used, yet when they were
made bigger, it was ugly…. ” More quotes from Jack Wong later. The back camera is
located far in one corner. There are speakers on the side of the Meizu M8, though the new photo
doesn’t reveal too much the final UI the M8 will be having.
iPhone 2.0.2 firmware update
might have worked for some, but it seems that it apparently does quite the opposite for others.
Reports are coming in that instead of improving pone functionality, the update actually kills the
iPhone’s ability to make calls in a 3G network. Kind of ironic since the whole point of the
3G iPhone is to be able to use it in a 3G network. One frustrated user brought his iPhone to an
AT&T store to have it checked, and when the SIM was swapped out, it apparently fixed the
problem.
This issue isn’t considered widespread yet, but as more reports slowly trickle in, I
wouldn’t be surprised if the number of people that are irate with Apple slowly swells to a
greater figure. This is just another reason why it would be wise to hold off on updating your
iPhone’s firmware at the moment until a more stable, and reliable one becomes available (or
a new
jailbreak that can fix
the problem is released).
It’s not the 606 and other 6th generation PMP Archos announced to day but a new line of devices
- namely, the “5″ and “7″ multimedia Internet tablets. Problem is with
these new devices, there’s no need for Archos PMPs. The Archos 5 and 7 are not only
WiFi-enabled multimedia players, they have a new UI that is significantly better than the Archos
Gen5 UI and capacities range from 60GB to 250GB (350 to 500 euros) for the Archos 5 and 160GB to
320GB (450 to 550euros) for the Archos 7. The 5 and 7 are not only screen-dominated devices, they
come with various accessories (DVR station, battery dock, GPS car holder, FM remote) so that you
could do just about everything you can think of doing to entertain yourself on the g0 and each
Archos 5 and 7 come with WebTV & Radio, something
Archos WiFi 5th-Generation owners are already enjoying after they shelled out $20. Very
exciting news for Archos fans.
Update: You can slide in a 3G SIM card in these new Archos devices, so there you go WiFi, 3G and
if you take a look at the video below, a pretty neat web browser.
We loved the Sweex Blizzard
when it came out last year. It was a sweet PMP with a Dutch label and great-looking speakers (for
a PMP) on top. Head Music’s own Blizzard has a more usual design. It has a 2.8-inch 320 x
240 pixel screen and a home/ return button below the screen, which is much reminiscent of the
iPhone and iPod Touch. Other features include AVI, WMV, MPEG4, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, JPG, BMP, TXT
support, USB 2,0/UMS, FM tuner and recorder, a mic, two audio jacks and 4GB of storage. I love
the two audio jacks. For 70 euros ($103) you and your special someone could enjoy squinting
together to a romantic movie.
Those who are looking into getting an iPod Touch, but are on a limited budget we’ll be
happy to know that price of refurbished 8GB unit has gone down to a very tempting price of just
$199. The 16GB version likewise has gotten trimmed down to an affordable $299. This is definitely
good news for the stingy gadget junky, but I can’t help but wonder why the sudden
price-cuts?
Two scenarios come to mind. The first being that the number of refurbished units Apple has at
their disposal has become so overwhelming that they’re forced to put them on sale; or that
a brand new
Touch is on the way, and they need to clear their inventory. I’m keeping my fingers
crossed and hoping that it’s the latter.
Regardless of the reason, this is still an awesome deal for such a sweet device.
