Apple has just announced that they’re opening the doors to their App Store for
iPad-optimized app submissions. Developers who wish to get their apps on the first batch of iPad
units on April 3rd will have to get their works in by March 27th. Just to update you guys, the
iPhone
OS 3.2 SDK is now in beta 5 form. This announcement may have very little to do with us
non-developers who are just waiting to get our hands on the latest gadgets, but we certainly can
help the developers out by letting them now which apps we would love to see optimized for the
Apple iPad.
I, for one, wouldn’t mind having the recently released Street Fighter IV iPhone game
tweaked for the iPad, but how about you guys? What iPhone app or game
would you like to see enhanced for the iPad?
We’ve seen quite a number of tablet PCs
already even before Apple shocked everyone with the announcement of the iPad. Now, you can add Samsung to the growing list
of manufacturers who have hopped on-board the slate bandwagon as we hear that they’ll be
launching their very own sometime in later this year.
Details about its launch and potential retail price are still pretty scarce at the moment, but
apparently, it will run on Windows, an Intel Atom processor, and possible access to its
Bada App Store as well. Samsung isn’t actually a newbie in this segment of the market
as they’ve already made a couple of handheld tablet PCs before such as the Samsung Q1 MID
pictured above, but of course, the game has definitely changed from back then. Will it be a hit
or flop for the renowned and successful phone maker? Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long
to find out.
It’s a pun; Sprint isn’t saying they have the iPhone
4G. What they’re saying is you can have your iPhone on a 4G network via Sprint’s
Overdrive. That’s what they mean. The iPhone on Sprint’s Overdrive mobile 4G hotspot.
Get it?
It’s misleading, it’s a figure of speech, it’s a pun and it’s fun.
The
SlingPlayer iPhone app has been around for quite sometime now, and soon, an
Android-compatible version will also be available as well. SlingPlayer for Android is confirmed
courtesy of this video, and I must say, it looks pretty darn good. It works on both 3G and WiFi
networks allowing Slingbox owners to enjoy mobile TV goodness on their Android device whichever way they want to.
They didn’t say though how much it’ll cost, but they did reveal that it’ll be
ready to roll out this coming summer.
It will remind you of the Kindle but the secondary display actually is a touchscreen with Android
running. Yes, that’s a 3.5-inch tablet right there at the bottom of the 6-inch electronic
paper display. All in all, the Alex has a smaller hardware footprint than both the Kinle and the
Nook. The makers of the Alex were obviously going for a netbook, e-rader hybrid like the
enTourage eDGe, but thought sacrificing portability for a bigger tablet display is not the
way to go. Alex has WiFi and is priced at a whopping $400.
Last year, Archos announced their intention of going into the netbook market with the 10
and 13 netbooks. We haven’t heard about these laptops since, but a couple of tech blogs
got wind of the imminent availability of one Archos A13PS, which is a 13-inch ultraportable
powered by Intel’s D510 CPU and running Windows 7 Home Premium. As we understand it, the
D510 is a 1.66GHz low voltage processor. Hopefully, this is enough for a full-size laptop like
the A13PS.
The Archos 9
tablet is the company’s challenge to the iPad. It’s powered by a 1.2 GHz Atom
processor and supports 1080p HD videos. No word on the specific OS.
It won’t be until June when we’ll probably see the officially 4G
iPhone and a week or two (or even earlier/longer depending on the iPhone OS version it comes
with) after that when an appropriate iPhone jailbreak will be released. That’s still more
than 2 whole months away. So, p0sixninja, a member of the Chronic Dev Team who have their own set
of iPhone jailbreak tools, is setting his eyes on a closer goal, the iPad.
He’s posted over at twitter that he’s already accepting donations to begin work on an
appropriate iPad jailbreak (iPhone 3.2
jailbreak), and has provided this screenshot of the latest version of greenpois0n to whet
everyone’s appetite. We don’t know exactly how jailbreak-able iPhone OS 3.2 is so we
can’t categorically say if what he’s proposing is really possible or not.
Nonetheless, the idea of a jailbroken iPad is indeed promising. Just treat this as a heads up
that an iPad jailbreak might be
released sometime in the near (or distant depending on the support he gets) future.
There’s a problem with naming the next iPhone
version 4G. You couldn’t help thinking that it should support 4G networks even if it
didn’t. So what would Apple call the next iPhone? Well, how about iPhone HD? Although
it’s unlikely that Cupertino will copy a Redmond product if only by name, the idea of an
HD-supporting AMOLED iPhone is mouth-watering enough to wish for this year. The iPhone HD in the
video above owes much of its form factor from COWON S9, an AMOLED PMP announced almost two years
ago. Oh, video-conferencing will be available in “The most social iPhone yet.”
This AMOLED PMP was leaked early this year without a photo and now the photo is here! Not only
that the COWON J3
has apparently already won the Reddot Design Award, which is amazing. It’s still the
3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen PMP that was leaked last January. It doesn’t have WiFi, though.
What it has is Bluetooth and G-Sensor and a capacity that tops 16GB. This is an award-winner?
Anyway, it should feel really good in your hand.
Quite a number of people (150,000 and counting
according to CNN) have already pre-ordered the iPad
which is expected to become available early next month, but for those of you who want to set
yourself apart from the rest of the Apple fan boys, then this blinged out Apple iPad might be more your cup of tea. This iPad
is clad in 11.43 carats of diamonded set in a micro-pave styling. If you’re very particular
with diamonds, the ones used here are graded G/H in color and VS2/SI1 in clarity. It’s made
by Mervis and only a limited number of this type of iPads will go into production. Price is set
for a whopping $19,999.00 and is now available for pre-order. Availability is scheduled on June
1. If average just isn’t good enough for you, this diamond iPad will definitely let
you stand head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd.
