Earlier today, we picked up a report from Destructoid saying that Electronic Arts' Dead Space (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) has been banned in three countries in Europe, namely Germany, Japan and China. However, the publisher would beg to differ.
According to Eurogamer.de, Electronic Arts has clarified to them that the report on the bannination
in Germany is not true at all. Rather, it is still awaiting classification from the USK. That is by no means
equivalent to being banned.
As for the two other countries, Japan and China, EA did not say anything about them so we could
more or less hold that bit of the report true -- for now.
Check out your XBL and PSN, guys. There's a sweet treat waiting for you
there today, and it's the demo for Activision's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
(Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PS2).
Included in the demo pack are the following tracks, plus more:
Sweet Emotion (Aerosmith)
Dream On (Aerosmith)
Walk This Way (Run DMC featuring Aerosmith)
I Hate Myself for Loving You (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts)
Do keep it posted here for more news and updates on this rockin' Activision title.
After the tumultuous past couple of months for Team Ninja and Tecmo, a beam of light is finally found at the end of the tunnel. A settlement has
finally been reached for Team Ninja members who filed a complaint back in July against Tecmo for
unpaid overtime.
The suit originally claimed that Tecmo placed workers on a "flexible hours" work scheme four years
ago, and since then, overtime wasn't paid. Plaintiffs represented all 300 Tecmo employees and
demanded for 8.3 million yen (US 77,000). The lawsuit also alleged that Tecmo had false documents
to cover up for the accounting documents.
And now, a settlement has been reached last
September 1. The translation of the released statement is below:
Regarding the litigation against our company, on September 1st a settlement was reached as
indicated below:
Settlement for the Lawsuit Has Been Reached
On July 16th, two of our employees brought suit against our company regarding unpaid overtime in
the Tokyo District Court and presented a proposed settlement. On September 1, 2008, a judicial
settlement was reached.
Now that that's over, will we be seeing Itagaki and Tecmo making peace anytime soon?
bu-nyan sure is a busy body, isn't he? This week alone, he's released a number of
homebrews for the BD-J on the PS3, and he's got another one today. This time, it's UneUne
v0.0.1.
The game's simple. As you can see from the image inset, it's a snake-like game. Unfortunately, the
attempted translation of the Readme was a disaster so that's all we could tell you about this
game.
We can only assume it does apply the same rules as the original Snake games do: lead the snake to
pick up the food that appears randomly on the screen and avoid hitting your own body.
You're free to try, though. If you get any luck,
please do share with us. Source link is below.
Take-Two Interactive, still hot in talks with Electronic Arts (supposedly) over their merger, has sent in its financial statement for
the previous fiscal quarter. The report reveals their line-up of games for the next year. What does
that "fiscal" there mean exactly? It means we can't expect those games to come out before November
1 of this year.
One title to note in the list is Grand Theft Auto IV's PC version, which will come out on November
18 in the US, which lands on the next fiscal year. Other titles to take note of are BioShock 2
(whose platforms are yet to be announced), Borderlands, Mafia II, and GTA: Chinatown Wars. Here's
the full list:
If you live in San Francisco, or if you happen to be there on
the night of the 15th, then you might want to drop by the Best Buy
down at 1717 Harrison St., where Sony and LucasArts are holding a
big shindig for the release of Star War: The Force Unleashed (PS3, PSP), which will be
released the next day.
Sam Witwer, the guy who plays Darth Vader's apprentice, will appear, as well as several other cast members. The
game's developers will be there as well, including Executive Producer Haden Blackman. If you're not
into the whole meet and greet thing though, you can always just get a chance to play the full
version of the game in advance.
Now if you don't live in San Francisco, you can still participate. During the event, Blackman will
ask a Star Wars-related trivia question, and the first ones to answer correctly will get Star Wars
/ Force Unleashed goodies! More details will come before Monday hits.
In a not-so-surprising turn of events, Microsoft hacked down Xbox 360 prices, with the Arcade
model going even cheaper than the Wii. One analyst believes that the PlayStation 3 might be on the
losing end this holiday season. But is Sony concerned? No, not really.
Sony's Julie Han explains: "We'll obviously see the natural lift [in sales] with the price cut, but
how sustainable is that in the long term?" In case you're wondering: no, they still don't have any
plans to cut prices for the PlayStation 3. Han explains:
We know PS3 offers that value across the board, with the built-in Blu-ray player the broadest and
deepest software lineup in the industry, with LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Motorstorm
[Pacific Rift]... we're quite confident our holiday sales will be good.
[...] We feel the PS3 offers the value at that price point. More than anything, you'll see with
the 80-gigabyte
announcement at E3 as well as with the recent 160 gif, consumers are telling you they want more
storage for photos, music... new games are also getting quite a bit of pickup through PlayStation Network.
There's also our new video download service that consumers are going to want to do. It's showing
that we're moving in the right direction.
So even if Sony doesn't come in first place for the holidays, they seem pretty confident that
they'll have the upper hand in the long run. Now if I had to guess what Nintendo is thinking about
this whole price cut thing, it's probably: "yeah, whatever."
You know it's a great survival-horror game if it got itself banned in three countries. It seems
Electronic Arts' Dead Space packs a bit too much gory punch as it's been banned in
Germany, Japan, and China. Well now I really want to get my hands on the game already.
Electronic Arts hasn't made any announcements on what it intends to do about it yet. I wouldn't
have expected a ban from Japan though, seeing as they gave us The Ring and The Grudge. You'd think
they'd be fond of games that wouldn't let you sleep out of fear.
Dead Space has been moved up from its original release date, and will be released on October 14 for
the PlayStation
3 and Xbox 360. The PC version will follow on October 20. I'm looking
forward to seeing Dead Space alien/trash-can helmet costumes this Halloween.

Okay, here's a post to clear the air on the supposed White Knight
Story/Chronicles release date. We earlier reported that Famitsu has
revealed the launch date for Level 5's PS3 RPG exclusive for December 11. However, the Scrawl post on the matter seems
to have been a tad too preemptive.
Checking out an actual Famitsu article, Kotaku dug around and found that Famitsu's calendar does
not have White Knight Story listed in the games coming out this December. Instead, it's nicely
settled itself in the TBA section. So, sorry to bust your excitement guys. We'll let you know as
soon as any more details are revealed.
Square Enix offered.
Tecmo rejects. Baffled Square Enix responds to Tecmo's rejection. Tecmo ignores.
Square Enix pulls out. This is how the short-lived love story of the two companies panned out.
The proposed Squeenix takeover was dubbed to be a "friendly" one, offering a controlling interest
in Tecmo by purchasing the company's shares at a 30 minimum. They did also say that if Tecmo
rejects the proposal, then they'll withdraw their offer.
But first, they wanted some explanations now on the following issues:
Please confirm that the decision on the start of discussions with KOEI toward
integration of management is the reason for rejection of the Proposal.
If that is the case, please clarify concretely that major terms of integration of management
with KOEI (form of the integration, stock prices assumption, integration ratio and so forth) are
favorable for TECMO's shareholders than the Proposal.
If not, please clarify that TECMO has an alternative plan, which is favorable for TECMO's
shareholders than the Proposal.
The Company will make
definitive decision on its plan immediately after receiving a
response from TECMO.
Well it looks like Tecmo ignored Square Enix' request for an explanation - not even as to why
they were rejected. Now, Square Enix is keeping its word and is thereby withdrawing from the
proposal. That was a quick rendezvous.
Here's a clarification on the release date of Koch's multiplatform RPG, boys and girls. Sacred 2:
Fallen Angel will be coming out on November 7th on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
There seemed to have been some sort of confusion as it was earlier said to be coming out on that
date on the PS3, while for the other two, it was confirmed as a playable platform back in June.
Anyhow, we're just glad Koch has cleared up the air on that matter. Keep it posted here for more
updates.
Fans of the game show Jeopardy have something to look forward to on their PS3s. The game Jeopardy!
is about to come out on the PSN and we've got a really cool trailer for it.
The theme song is particularly very catchy, don't you think? It also makes us all giddy with
excitement as it hints at Trophies. We don't know what kind of Trophies exactly, but we'll be sure
to get it to you as soon as it drops.
Have you checked your Xbox Live recently? You should, because MTV Games and Harmonix have already
dropped the title update for the Rock Band franchise. This Disc Export will allow you to get 55
tracks from the original Rock Band (Xbox 360, PlayStation
3, Wii) for play in the upcoming Rock Band 2
(Xbox 360, PS3,
Wii, PS2).
Just go to the extras option in the menus, and there you will find an expert disc tab for you to
expand in advance your Rock Band 2 library. Harmonix' goal is to send out a whopping 500 songs for
the game.
Before you go all download-happy, though, here are a couple of important things to take note
of:
Online connection required
Nominal fee of US 4.99 (400 MS Points) for export of Rock Band soundtrack to compensate music
licensors for expanded use
The following Rock Band disc tracks will not be available for export into Rock Band 2:
Title update will also be released simultaneously in Europe
Europe will not be getting Through the Monsoon (Tokio Hotel) for export into the future European release of Rock
Band 2
The Rock Band 2 game disc will originally hold 84 tracks on top of the additional 20 free DLC
tracks post-launch.
PlayStation owners out there, don't fret. It's said that your goods will be following shortly in a
few weeks. We'll keep you posted for more info, but in the meantime, at least you now have a
clearer idea of what's in store for you with this update.
Here's something that doesn't happen everyday. A game's about to be released earlier
than expected! Imagine that! It is possible after all! Electronic Arts' Dead Space was originally tagged with an October 31st release date, but
now it's been moved up a week early.
The console versions for PS3 and Xbox 360will now be released on October 14. The
PC version, meanwhile,
also gets bumped up the calendar with an October 20 launch. This is the second time the release dates for Dead
Space were moved up. That's a nice way to get your treats early for Halloween.
It's a new month and that means another issue of Qore will be making its
way to the PlayStation Store in North America today. Among other things, the new update will also feature NFL Head
Coach 09 as the premiere download of the week.
You can also expect the usual suspects, such as new downloadable content for Rock Band, as well as
a gamut of free videos and other treats. Unfortunately, the PC store seems rather bare this week -
offering only several wallpapers for your PlayStation Portable handheld.
Anyway, here's the full list of DLC on the PlayStation Store for the week of September 4:
Shhh . - The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets ($0.99)
Livin at the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe - MC Frontalot ($0.99)
PAX Pack 1 ($2.99) - includes Shhh . by The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, Livin at
the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe by MC Frontalot, and Skullcrusher Mountain by Jonathan
Coulton.
It's been a while since we really heard anything
substantial about Shirokishi Monogatari, otherwise known as White Knight
Story/Chronicles. To that end, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Famitsu
uncovered the release date for this RPG.
According to Famitsu, the game will finally hit Japanese store shelves on December 11.
Again, not much information other than that little tidbit, so we'll have to be patient. That said,
seeing as the game's coming out near the end of the year, we can probably expect to know a LOT more
once TGS rolls around. Till then, sit tight!
