On y

Pet Holdings, the company behind ICanHasCheezburger
and a number of other humorous blogs, has unveiled the newest addition to its popular blog
network: OnceUponAWin, a site
dedicated to finding and posting nostalgic photos and videos from your childhood.
I have a hard time believing OnceUponAWin will be as popular as the network’s flagship blog about
lolcats or failblog, a favorite
around the TechCrunch office. But it’s a solid addition to the network, and will only
further boost Pet Holdings traffic, which has been growing at a steady clip. From September to
October the site saw a 19%
increase in the number of unique visitors and a total of 128.3 million page views.
Other blogs in the network include IHasAHotDog and
EngrishFunny, which

I don't know that I've ever seen any computer art quite as -- I'm sorry, there's no other way of
putting this -- as fucked up as "I made this, you play this, we are enemies," a Flash game that
really strongly resembles the unmistakable bonkerosity of the complicated sketches left behind the
crazy people who used to sit at their own tables in the library I worked at, furiously drawing for
10 hours at a stretch. It's brilliant and terrible all at once and that is why I love it. I made

Comics Should Be Good! -

I love end-of-year-lists. Particularly when I don’t have to make them.
So why don’t you all step up and tell me your TOP THREE picks for:
1) Best NEW manga of 2008 — “New” meaning a series that debuted for the first
time in English this year.
2) Best CONTINUING manga of 2008 — “Continuing” meaning a
series that debuted before 2008 and was released at least once this year.
Comment here and next week I’ll add up the responses and see what titles you all thought
deserved to be declared the “best.” (One shots published in 2008 are
eligible to be declared the “best” as well).Â
Then we can argue relentlessly about the answers. Sounds like fun, right?

 Peek's
kinda-sorta email-only handheld is one of the
more polarizing devices to hit this year. On one hand, anyone who cares that much
about email in their pocket probably already owns an email-capable handset; on the other, those
satisfied with their pay-as-you-go phone may seriously be interested in adding this to their
arsenal. Regardless of your take on things, we figured you should know that it's available for
"today only" at $49.95, clearly setting the bar for a Cyber Wednesday in years to come. 'Course,
that $19.95 per month data requirement isn't going anywhere, but half a Benjamin might be worth it
just to crack this sucker open and test your hacking skills.

Have you ever wondered how, exactly, the Hollywood studios came up with their logos? No, not
really? It's cool, I've never given much thought to it either, but the folks over at Neatorama did,
and they tracked down the stories behind the logos for Dreamworks SKG (boy fishing on a moon), MGM
(which was your favorite lion?), 20th Century Fox, Paramount (are those real mountains?), Warner
Brothers and Columbia Pictures (who's that torch lady again?). It's a rather fascinating read, if
only to learn the names behind the artists who created some of the more recognizable images in film
history.
From the Dreamworks SKG description: "Spielberg wanted the logo for DreamWorks to be reminiscent of
Hollywood's golden age. The logo was to be a computer generated image of a man on the moon,
fishing, but Visual Effects Supervisor Dennis Muren of Industrial Light and Magic, who has worked
on many of Spielberg's films, suggested that a hand-painted logo might look better. Muren asked his
friend, artist Robert Hunt to paint it. Hunt also sent along an alternative version of the logo,
which included a young boy on a crescent moon, fishing. Spielberg liked this version better, and
the rest is history. Oh, and that boy? It was Hunt's son, William."
Check out the rest over on Neatorama. Which
logo is your personal favorite? (And is it weird to have a favorite Hollywood studio logo?)

Amidst the ongoing economic uncertainty it seems that there are still plenty of people keen to buy
and sell a href=http://www.classicrallies.com/cars_for_sale vintage and classic cars/a and a
href=http://www.classicrallies.com/shop/?id_categoria_Pare=17 automobilia/a. H‚s
traditional end of year auction not only grossed in excess of £1.4 million but also drew over
1,000 people to the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton (including some 400 registered bidders). Auctioneer
and Managing Director Simon Hope commenting: „With interest rates widely
predicted to fall still further there are undoubtedly those who would rather have their money sat
in something enjoyable or at least tangible. However, the old car and world has not divorced itself
from the greater financial reality and this is increasingly a market in which quality counts - be
it in terms of condition, provenance or both.br / br / Highly original and one of the trio which
secured a coveted Coupe des Alpes for the London-based marque on that year‚s
Alpine Rally, the Vanden Plas bodied 1932 Talbot 105 Fox Nicholl Team Car exceeded its top estimate
to sell for £201,000. The same £201,000 was also achieved by the ex-concours entrant
1936 SS Jaguar 100. Supplied new to a Buxton resident, the car was the second earliest example of
its type known to exist and had raced in America during 1938. Equally historic was the ex-Patsy
Burt 1966 McLaren M3A Formula Libre. Offered for sale by her family, the multiple trophy-winning
and record-breaking single-seater had not been run in anger for many years but went to a very good
home for £78,000.br / br / Arguably requiring more work than anything else in the sale, the
1901 Decauville 8hp Tonneau surpassed all expectations to fetch £91,500 (more than six times
its catalogue low estimate figure). The other three Œgarage finds‚
from the same long-term private collection also beat their top estimate figures: 1913 Daimler 30hp
Landaulette (£44,500), 1925 Daimler 20hp Landaulette (£15,500) and 1913 Argyll 25/50
Tourer (£37,900). While, the similarly unrestored 1939 SS Jaguar 2.5 Litre Drophead Coupe
which had been in the same family since 1946 fetched £29,000. Surprisingly solid beneath its
faded paint and cracked upholstery, the 1962 Aston Martin DB4 with Special Series engine may yet
prove a canny buy at £82,500. While, a declared engine fault did not deter bidding on the
1933 Alvis Speed 20 SA Tourer which reached £37,900. br /a
