When was the last time you saw a short film in the theater? I don't mean an 85-minute animated
movie; I mean an actual short, like they give separate Oscars to. Otherwise known as a short
subject, defined (by the Academy) as anything with a running time less than 40 minutes. Chances
are, unless you attend film festivals, go to see the toured screenings of Oscar shorts, or bought a
ticket to Paris, Je
T'Aime, it's been awhile since you actually saw a short film on a big screen.
Or, maybe I should specify that it's likely been awhile since you purposefully went to see a
specifically timed screening of a short film or compilation of shorts at the theater. Technically
some ads for Coca-Cola and other companies, the ones made by novice filmmakers as part of a
competition or something, count as shorts. And, I'm fully aware that some arthouse cinemas, such as
NYC's IFC Center, run a short film in place of pre-show commercials. But as far as I can tell, such
shorts are not specifically advertised as screening at a designated time. Sure, you can go on
the IFC Center's website and find out that Erik
Rosenlund's Looking
Glass is the short currently being shown (as it was this past week when I saw Trouble the Water
there), but for most people (myself included), it's a surprise. And I doubt anyone has trekked to
IFC just to see that particular film, unless anyone is a huge aficionado of frightening black and
white Swedish animation.

Listening Post -

A few weeks ago, Listening Post asked for your bizarro uncle scripts and stories in exchange for
free copies of UNKLE's recently released effort End Titles...Stories for Film. What we
ended up with were creepy, unbelievable and hilarious tales of domestic weirdness. We've since
slept very little.
But seriously, those were direct quotes from the judges. Creepy, unbelievable and hilarious, step
forth! You are winners. Now let's all get some sleep.
JUDGEMENT: "Hilarious!"
FIRST PLACE: Jetsetdork
My mom and dad both came from good sized Catholic families so it seems like I have uncle or two
in every state and under most rocks. But I'd like to just tell you about one of my uncles from my
mom's side. This uncle suffered a nasty divorce when I was in high school and moved into the
apartment attached to our house. Since he had a long commute and my family kept pretty busy we
didn't see him all the time, but every time a wave of stale bacon scent would fill our first
floor we knew my uncle had opened the door between his place and ours. Between him and his son,
who would sometimes spend the weekends, they must have gone through more pigs than I want to
think about. The story does not end there, though. Years went by and my family left the house and
my uncle stayed on. Eventually he left, too, and a friend of mine rented the apartment. When I
asked him what he thought of the place he said that it was nice that he couldn't "shake the smell
of bacon". This same uncle also left his plastic x-mas tree up all year; decorated with toys from
his son's Happy Meals and birthday presents. In keeping with this x-mas theme, the traditional
angel at the top was replaced by Sponge Bob Squarepants.
JUDGEMENT: "Creepy!"
SECOND PLACE: Khan
I had an uncle whom I believed was a distant cousin of my father. He came to stay when I was
about 10. He never really did anything but spent the days loafing around the house, sleeping or
eating whatever he could find in the cupboards. The hardest part of his visit was when my parents
would leave for work, leaving me and my brother and sister alone with him during the day. It was
summer so my siblings and I spent most of the days outside hanging out with the other children on
the street. When we went back inside the house for lunch or later in the afternoon, we would find
our uncle sleeping on the couch, which was what he was doing when we left. But somehow, things
always seemed to be a little out of place, particularly in our bedrooms. I would look around to
see what was missing but all my belongings would still be there. And yet, something always felt
off. I asked my sister, who was then 14, if anything had been taken from her room but she
couldn't see anything that was taken and said "no." Then one afternoon, we were sitting around
the kitchen table and I related, rather foolishly, a story to my uncle and siblings of when I was
four and was led to a garage by two older, teenaged girls and asked to pull my pants down. The
experience had been a disturbing one for me and up until then I hadn't mentioned it to anyone. My
uncle responded by telling me that had I been ten years older at the time I would have enjoyed
the experience. Utterly disgusted after he made that remark, I avoided him completely and
wouldn't eat at the dinner table with the family for the rest of my uncle's stay. On the day that
my uncle was leaving, my mother gave me a package of tea to give to my uncle to take with him
when he left. Not wanting to speak with him or confront him after his remark about my experience,
I decided to just stuff the tea box in his suitcase instead. I unzipped the suitcase and prepared
to shove the tea box in with the rest of his clothes - but stared in horror at the bundle of pink
underwear, which I would soon learn belonged to my sister.
JUDGEMENT: "Unbelievable!"
THIRD PLACE: Tie! CDug...
My uncle had a neighbour who always parked in his stall. Several times he very poiltely asked him
not to, the guy always agreed but did it again later anyways. Finally one day, when my uncle had
a few beers in him someone mentioned that his stall was being used again. He stood up, walked
calmy out to the praking lot, climbed on top of the vehicle, puled down his pants, squatted down
and pushed out a big deuce right on the windshield. When he was done, he pulled his pants up,
climbed down and walked back over to his yard and sat back down. The stall was never used again.
JUDGEMENT: "Unbelievable!"
THIRD PLACE: ...and Sam
My uncle Rick was telling one of his long, rambling joke-stories a few Christmases ago. While he
was talking, he'd taken to playing with a bit of string he'd found on the table. He put it in his
mouth and was chewing the end of it. Mid-sentence, the string exploded in his mouth and he
stopped dead, wide eyed, smoke billowing from his thick gray mustache. Turns out he'd found the
string from an unpopped party popper that I had dismantled it during one of his previous jokes to
pass the time.
Congratulations, Wired nuts. You have made us feel strange in ways pharmaceuticals never could.
I'll be in contact about your copy of UNKLE's End
Titles...Stories for Film shortly. Anyone up for aunts?

But I love Honda Power Equipment.
This is my second one I have had it 3 years it starts with one pull and it is a hoss my favorite
feature is the hydrostatic transmission and the rotostop clutch. I bought my first one in 1990 it
was an abused 1986 model and I gave it to a guy at work when I got this one in 2005 and it still
runs like a champ. These machines cost around 1000 dollars but they will almost last a lifetime.
BTW don't get this machine with the HomeDepot Harmony series this one is the commercial series you
need to go to a Honda dealer to get one.

By Unlock, I mean being able to use it with another phone company, by changing the sim card.
Please, don't tell me to use search, I did and only found people who where looking for a tut.
I'd also wanna know, how do you do to buy it? Can you buy it without a sim card, or you gotta got
to pay the 3 years (I'm in canada) and after remove the sim card. If I gotta pay for the 3 years,
it will cost way too much.
