Earlier this year, you may recall that Bell Canada started a href="http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20080324/152928636.shtml"traffic shaping its DSL/a even at the wholesale level -- and did so without bothering to tell any of its resellers. That meant that various resellers of Bell Canada, which had promised customers an open network, were suddenly lying, without even knowing it. These reseller ISPs protested, and Bell Canada responded by telling them to a href="http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20080325/155924648.shtml"shut up and deal/a with it. The other ISPs protested to Canadian regulators who have now a href="http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/CRTC-Rules-Against-Indie-ISPs-In-Throttling-Dispute-99206" target="_new"sided with Bell Canada/a, claiming that the traffic shaping is not discriminatory, because it impacts all reseller ISPs the same way. Of course, that's not the type of idiscrimination/i the ISPs were complaining about... br /br / The whole thing does seem quite questionable, as Bell Canada effectively changed the terms by which it provided service to its reseller ISPs, without any notification, let alone negotiation. Yet, because Bell Canada is effectively a monopoly as a provider of DSL, the ISPs have no competitive options to which they can turn. Content Delivery Network BitGravity is testing a new product they’re calling Multiview (at least internally) that delivers up to six different synchronized high definition video streams at once. The viewer sees the normal view but can click on any of the other views at any time, and audio is obviously synchronized. The result is this: the viewer is put in the producer’s chair, and can switch camera angles at any time.

Why would you want this? I’m speculating, but an obvious use is sporting events. Instead of watching whatever is on screen, viewers could watch particular players instead. And if a particularly interesting play happens, users can switch cameras to see it from different angles.

There are other obvious uses for this too. As usual, the pornography industry may be the first to try it out.

This is also a view into the future, where video breaks away from the bonds of broadcast television. The Internet is interactive - so let viewers interact.

To see a Multiview test, go here, which shows a driving trip from six different camera angles (it’s Google street view on steroids). Not sure if they’ll keep this live now that we’re pointing to it.

Note that the BitGravity guys are known for doing random stuff to show off their network. But from what we hear, Multiview is being productized.

Since iTunes 8.0.2 is out, iPod firmware 2.2 is sure to come out as well.
As of now I'm downloading iTunes 8.0.2, so once it's done i'll post the update.
I really hope for new firmware, before i go to the airport tonight :D.

EDIT: I'm not saying that firmware 2.2 is out, i'm saying that it MIGHT come out.

I guys, for some reason when I try to run some code in the background, about 5 or 6 seconds after I click the home button, it crashes. The wierd part is that it does NOT happen when I am running the debug console.
