At last, here it is, the Meizu M8 finished
product.
Is it just me or does the background music remind one of Zune ads? Got to admit the UI is
sophisticated and beautiful. Screen resolution of the Meizu M8 is crisp. The swiping touch
control is almost as amazing as iPhone’s. It’s one of the best Windows CE 5.0 device
we’ve seen here at PMPToday.

Toshiba has abandoned HD DVD, Sony’s Blu-Ray has emerged as the new standard for

it's not about to become obsolete..../p

Social news community Mixx is seeing healthy
growth ever since they left
stealth mode. They got a nice
traffic spike last May after CNN integrated
‘Mixx it’ buttons in their articles, roughly doubling their number of unique
monthly visitors to nearly 1 million, and it appears their new community
building features aren’t hurting them either.
A screenshot from their Google Analytics account shows that the Digg-competitor is gaining
traction, receiving over 5.8 million unique visitors last month. Compete (as
usual) estimates lower numbers but shows a similar growth pattern, as does Google Trends.
Quantcast seems to
affirm the number of reported visitors as well.
So how does that compare to Digg?
While we don’t have any insight on their internal stats, we do know Comscore, Compete,
Quantcast and
Google
Trends all show that Digg yields much more traffic than Mixx, even if growth appears to be
stagnating while Mixx’s is soaring.
Mixx is also very eager to show that their user base is more diverse than Digg’s audience,
citing a Hitwise report that suggests its users tend to be more female (49% vs. 33%), older (36%
in the 18-24 age group vs. 45%) and wealthier (e.g. 19% makes more than $150k per year vs. 4%)
than Digg users. But comScore’s U.S. demographics of both sites tells a different story.
According to comScore, females make up 47% of the Mixx audience vs. 46.4% for Digg. So about the
same. But when it comes to 18-24-year-olds comScore thinks Mixx skews younger, with 17% vs. only
14% for Digg. And for households earning more than $100,000, Digg wins there as well with 30% vs.
27% for Mixx.
So who’s numbers are you going to believe? It’s important to note that the Hitwise
report was based on a 4-week study, which is in my opinion far from enough data to jump to any
conclusions about the difference in user demographics. When you take the comScore data into
account, the demographic differences seem pretty minor. Certainly they are not big enough to make
any solid statements about Mixx being more mainstream than Digg.
Still a nice traffic growth pattern for a website that’s only been live for about a year
and raised only $3.5 million in
funding so far (Digg, for reference, has raised $40
million to date). Below are some comScore charts for the U.S.

Etsy seller Yokoo not only makes some pretty rad gigantic chunky knitwear, but she also gives good
funny in her little "featured seller" interview: Please describe your creative process how, when,
materials, etc. Well, Im not going to lie to you. A healthy dose of plagiarism never hurt anybody.
When that falls flat, I find that taking my consciousness off of the process altogether really
allows the problem to figure itself out. Opening refrigerator doors does wonders for the dormant
mind. I would bet that there must be a sort of creative composite in coolant. I find that staring
blankly into the back of the refrigerator wall usually releases a couple of pinned ideas to rub
softly on the forefront of my head. Yokoo (Thanks, Robert!)...br style="clear: both;"/ a

a href="http://www.dangerousdwarf.com/"Mongo the Magnificent./a quot;Out of nowhere, believing that
it is good for the soul to have one insane idea a day, whether you need it or not, the notion of a
dwarf private detective came to me [...] I considered such a character bizarre and absurd,
unworkable and unpublishable, and thus a waste of time to spend and length of time trying to
develop it. I kept searching, but the damn dwarf just wouldn't go away. [...] It was to be a
satire. Halfway through, I discovered a key to the man's character was a simple quest to be taken
seriously, for dignity. That touched me, and I started over again, this time doing it
quot;straightquot; (or as straight as I'm able). I gave a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongo_the_Magnificent"Mongo/a dignity, and in return he gave me
a career. The diverse background was, I thought, necessary in order to properly equip him in a

great fan of mysteries (though I've read all of Holmes and most of Agatha Christie at various
points), but I picked up one of Chesbro's books one day many years ago and it grew on me as I read
it, they're subtle but strange and sweet (even though he puts that poor dwarf through the most
horrific experiences, electrical tortures, sensory deprivation tanks, rabies and cholera). br / br

he was a success with self-publishing, and that he continued Mongo on into stranger worlds in new
books I haven't read yet.

A couple of days ago, I was invited to spend the day at Nokia's Testing Labs at Farnborough, UK,
being given a tour of the facilities and numerous demonstrations along the way. The aim was to
spread the word about how rigorously Nokia test their handsets' hardware and on that front I was
extremely impressed. AAS video podcast 37 is a fairly full 35 minutes of footage from the tour
(taken on the N93 and N82, for those that are interested) and will let you see and hear what I saw.
Enjoy.
(If the embedding below doesn't work for you then here's the direct (and slightly higher
resolution) web-watch URL: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...21695595&hl=en)
Did you know:
- Kevin Smith, Rob Johnson and their team 'break' around 2000 production
handsets PER MODEL tested. Staggering.
- Each model has to pass over 200 different mechanical tests.
- Temperature testing takes place from -40 Centigrade to +85 Centigrade, a 135
degree range!
- The slow-motion camera used to film the drop tests runs at 100,000 frames per
second, 2000 times faster than TV...
- Nokia test phone keys, d-pads and other moving parts up to a million times.
Each, i.e. per physical phone.
Seeing what all Nokia's handsets have to go through in order to be approved for production
gave me a new respect for the reliability and reputation of its hardware. Watch the video if you
think I'm easily swayed.....
Special thanks again to Ray Haddow of Nokia for putting the tour together. Look out for more
information from the test labs tour on AAS soon.
