/br /br /According to several reports, Honda has put its F1 team up for sale and if the automaker
doesn't find a suitor before the start of the season in March, it won't be campaigning in 2009.br
/br /An unnamed source told Reuters that Honda team bosses Ross Brawn and Nick Fry said, "They have
a month to find a buyer, otherwise they are closing the team." Autocar reports that a media lunch
was cancelled this week and that a staff meeting at Honda Team HQ in Brackley was called this
evening and an official statement will follow tomorrow morning from Japan.br /br /The reason for
the decision is due to the current economic climate and the cost of developing a competitive car
that abides by the 2009 rules. Finding someone to back the team during these tumultuous times is
going to prove difficult and there's already talk that Bernie Ecclestone may step in to attempt to
work out a deal to keep Honda around.br /br /More information should follow tomorrow. Thanks to all
who tipped in.br /br /[Sources: a

Smibs Inc, the Candian
startup behind SmibsNet has launched
the service to the public. The site offers a set of tools that resemble LinkedIn, but are
supposed to be more focused on project and task management than personal connections and resumes.
The public beta will also open the network’s directory up to users who are not members of
Smibs, allowing them to search for members involved in specified professions (much as they would
on LinkedIn).
Besides SmibsNet (which is the social networking side of the site), Smibs will be releasing
applications running on its platform. Currently available is Doorbell, an app similar to Highrise that is
designed to be a sales application for workers who aren’t typically involved in sales (it
essentially allows smaller businesses to complete sales-oriented tasks without a dedicated
staff). The service was originally annouced
in June, and
released a small private beta in October.
CEO Peter Urban has also given us a document that he has forwarded to a number of major VCs in an
attempt to entice them to use the service (you can see it below). Judging from the responses (one
VC replied “I apologize for being dense, but what is that you want?”), it is probably
wise not to mimic this strategy.

After seeing how well Psystar did with its Open
Computer, we think we'll just build our own Hackintosh rather than jump into this OpeniMac
we've recently been hepped to. But who knows? Maybe you've been dying to send your hard earned
money down to some shady Argentinean characters. In that case, this 2.53GHz machine should be right
up your alley. Selling for $990 (or $1,330 with an LG 19-inch monitor), the base unit ships with
2GB memory, 320GB storage, and a 256MB ATI Radeon HD PRO. If you've got deep pockets, $1,710 will
get you the OpeniMacPRO, a 3.0GHz machine with a 20-inch widescreen monitor and 4GB RAM. But
seriously -- who knows where the money goes? And who knows whether you'll ever see the machine? One
thing is for certain, however -- this case is as ugly as sin.

Ezra Klein / American Prospect:

Sun has released the first version of JavaFX, aptly named JavaFX 1.0. JavaFX 1.0 returns to the
sales pitch that Sun used during Java's launch more than 13 years ago: a foundation for software on
a wide variety of computing clients such as desktop computers or mobile phones. JavaFX builds on
current Java technology but adds two major pieces. First is a new software foundation designed to
run so-called rich Internet applications--network-enabled programs with lush user interfaces.
Second is a new programming language called JavaFX Script that's intended to be easier to use than
traditional Java.

If you use Google Reader as your primary feed reader, you might notice that it has a different look
today. The corners are less rounded all the drop shadows are gone. Overall, it has a more
featherweight feel, and the sidebar sections are now collapsible. It’s a bit faster too.
Shared content from friends is now given more prominence. (FriendFeed envy, perhaps?) You can
hide the counter telling you how many posts are unread, in case that just makes you feel like you
can never keep up with everything. Sometimes you just don’t want to know how much you are
missing.
But the biggest change is one hidden in the browse tab. It will generate some feed bundles for
you that you can add all at once. And if you select “browse all bundles,” you can see
all of the bundles. These are algorithmically generated, unlike in the past when bundles were
edited by hand. You can find TechCrunch in the Technology bundle.

This blog post on Qt Labs shows how to easily embed regular desktop widgets in a three dimensional
Wolfenstein-like maze. The example includes web browser views, a mediaplayer with sound and video,
OpenGL integration, and even a soldier scriptable in QtScript. All done in relatively simple code
using Qt's QGraphicsView API. The example might not be directly usable by itself, but it
demonstrates how easy it is to map 2D widgets to 3D scenes in Qt and could act as inspiration for
future user interfaces.
