On y

This first bit might be
a bit off the cinematic path, but it's something strange enough to rival those stories of a frozen
Walt Disney. You might have heard that David Tennant (our latest
Doctor Who) is starring in a stage version of Hamlet over in the UK. Well, it seems that
he wasn't using a fake skull -- in fact, it was the skull of a Shakespeare enthusiast, concert
pianist and Holocaust survivor Andrew Tchaikowsky. Tennant leaked the information, and now the
BBC reports that it will no
longer be used so that the audience wouldn't be distracted. Bummer for Tchaikowsky's dying wish,
but imagine the possibilities. Is bone donation the next wave in creative appreciation?
In other dark news, Variety
reports that the classically creepy Michael Wincott (Top Dollar
from The Crow) is teaming up with Swedish actor/director Rafael Edholm for an untitled Sweden-set drama. According
to Wincott: "Three people meet, something may have happened in their teenage years, and this will
now result ín one death. It is drama, thriller and dark comedy." Unfortunately, we won't
learn what that all means for a while -- production isn't slated to start until February 2010.
Finally, we've got a scribe for the upcoming remake of Captain Blood. The Hollywood Reporter posts that John
Brownlow, writer of 2003's Sylvia, has grabbed the gig. If you're not familiar with
the Oscar-nominated original, Errol Flynn starred as a doctor convicted of treason who is sold into
slavery only to escape and become a pirate. This whole thing makes me itch for Cary Elwes to return
to his escaped prisoner-turned-pirate roots. Who's with me?
fonctionnel)

Hi, I have an XFXforce mobo model MG-630I-7109 which has an nforce 630i chipset. I have installed
various OSX86 versions on it which run very well except for sound which I have not been able to get
to work. This however is not my concern.
My problem is that the pwnage tool which I use to pwn my iPhone 3G is not working properly.
Although I can install it, run it and create my custom firmware no problem, I am unable to use it
to put my iPhone 3G into DFU mode. The problem seems to be timing. By that I mean that when the DFU
instructions come on and it tells you to prepare to hold the home and power button down after 5
seconds, those 5 seconds take much longer in actuality. After that when it tells you to hold the
power and home button down for 10 seconds and begins counting down the seconds, the seconds count
down very slow and it actually takes about 25 seconds or so to do the count down. I know this not
because I count out the seconds myself but because I am using my watch as well as the computer's
clock for references. So basically, long after 10 seconds have in "actuality" passed, the pwnage
tool is still counting down and is at like 5.
I am having this problem with Kalyway 10.5.2 and iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5

Likely a huge hit at any Halloween party it attended, Casey Pugh's Daft Punk helmet - It's a 16x5
LED matrix installed inside a cheap motorcycle helmet I found on Amazon. I used the Arduino to
program all the animations. (arduino.cc)
The LEDs are on cardboard, so I punched holes between every single LED and some larger slits
around the sides in order to see out. Straight-up awesome. [via Synthtopia]

Gary Gipson was inspired by the Magbot Pendulum project in Dave Hrynkiw's wonderful Junkbots, Bugbots & Bots on Wheels. Greg
made a few changes. He put the electronics package on a little swinging bot and made the
permanent magnet stationary to the base. The bot's LED eyes light up when he first starts out
over the magnet. Nifty!
Gary has some other really nice BEAMbots on his YouTube channel, including a Photopopper driven by a 1381J voltage
trigger-based solar engine. We used the 1381 in the two BEAMbots featured in MAKE, Volume 06
(reprinted in The Best of
MAKE).
