height="192" style="padding-right:8px;float:left" /Dr. Albert Mohler has released four books this
year and they have had very different origins. ema
href="http://www.challies.com/archives/book-reviews/book-review-atheism-remix.php"Atheism
Remix/a/em began as the W.H. Griffith Thomas Lectures Mohler delivered at Dallas Theological
Seminary early in 2008; ema
href="http://www.challies.com/archives/book-reviews/he-is-not-silent.php"He Is Not Silent/a/em is
an original work, written as a book; ema
href="http://www.challies.com/archives/book-reviews/culture-shift-by-dr-albert-mohler-1.php"Culture
Shift/a/em and his most recent work, emDesire and Deceit/em, began as articles written over a
period of years, most of which were posted at Mohler's blog. Each of these books speaks to a
different subject that is of great importance in our cultural context./p pemDesire and Deceit/em is
subtitled "The Real Cost of the New Sexual Tolerance." In this book Dr. Mohler addresses issues
related to sexuality and, in particular, issues related to contemporary challenges on biblical
sexuality. It begins in a unique spot, quoting J.R.R. Tolkien and the biblical wisdom he shared
with his sons, warning them to avoid the devil's snares in deviant sexuality. From here Mohler
looks at lust in both a secular perspective (quoting philosopher Simon Blackburn) and a Christian
perspective (reviewing Joshua Harris' book emNot Even a Hint/em, a.k.a. emSex Is Not the Problem,
Lust Is/em). Two chapters look at issues related to pornography while ten turn to homosexuality.
Mohler wants his reader to understand that the acceptance of homosexuality on the part of
Christians can only be done at the expense of critical doctrines and ultimately only at the expense
of Christianity itself; the two cannot co-exist. He offers character studies of Alfred Kinsey and
Andrew Sullivan, shows how male friendship has been negatively impacted by the widespread
acceptance of homosexuality, looks to boys raised by lesbian mothers, and explains the historical
developments that allowed homosexuality to become accepted and celebrated in our culture. A final
three chapters look to the age of polymorphous perversity, turning to Freud and his followers who
championed the idea that every child is a clean slate when it comes to sexual identity; it is only
restraint and repression that keeps people from becoming who they are really meant to be. Overall,
the book presents a solid, useful primer on issues related to sexuality and the many ways our
culture is turning from biblical categories of sexuality./p pThose who, as I am, are regular
readers of Dr. Mohler's blog, may find that they recognize some of the chapters. In fact, several
of these chapters are almost unchanged from their original form. Though there is some thematic
cohesion in the book as it moves from topic-to-topic and chapter-to-chapter, the book's genesis as
scattered blog posts does show even as the book gets printed and put between two hard covers.
Unavoidably, the book reads more as a series of articles than as a work that moves consistently and
logically towards a certain conclusion./p pI suppose my sole wish for the book is that Dr. Mohler
would have dedicated just a little more time to proposing solutions and to suggesting how
Christians are to live in the midst of new realities. Certainly there is some of this, but not as
much as I might have liked. It may be that this is unavoidable in moving articles from a blog
format to a book. Still, a little more application would have been nice./p pemDesire and Deceit/em
completes the list of four books coming from Dr. Mohler's pen in 2008. Like its predecessors, this
book is both valuable and timely and is worth adding to any library. It deals with real issues and
offers valuable guidance on them. If I were to rate the books by the order I think you should read
them, I would rate this one second behind emHe Is Not Silent/em (and ahead of emCulture Shift/em,
with emAtheism Remix/em falling behind that)./p pa

This video is entirely created in Processing. It's a great
open source programming language that was developed for both electronic and visual artists. It's
also the program the Arduino IDE is based on. Amazing work!
This is the HD and finished version of my video 'Music Is Math'. I just let the program run
till the end of the music, I felt reluctant to interfere too much by trying to sculpt an ending,
and just let the code run its own natural course. Music by Board of Canada.

//abr //div If researchers at Boston University's College of Engineering have their way, light
bulbs of the future may be the highway your data gets carried along. A team at the school is
working on low-power LEDs which could utilize an optical communication system to carry data
wirelessly. Using a technique which rapidly switches the LEDs on and off data transmissions could
be made via imperceptible -- yet undoubtedly brain-scrambling -- flickering patterns, and each
light would be its own network entry point at speeds of 1 to 10Mbps. The concept is more secure
than current RF techniques because it requires linked devices be in line-of-sight, and the
technology would draw far less energy than conventional radios. Says professor Thomas Little,
"Imagine if your computer, iPhone, TV, radio and thermostat could all communicate with you when you
walked in a room just by flipping the wall light switch and without the usual cluster of wires."
Yes... and talk about you behind your back. And plot your "accidental" death after taking out a
large life insurance policy on you. You won't get away with this LED network!br /br /[Thanks,

Sunday we reported on an interview with an MSI manager, who stated that internal research had shown
that the return rate for the Linux version of MSI's Wind netbook was four times as high as that of
the Windows XP version. He claimed that the unfamiliarity of people with Linux was the culprit.
This claim sparked some serious discussion around the net, but now MSI's statement is being
repeated by Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu.

As I noted (to much derision from the peanut gallery) back in
August, Tina Fey bears a striking resemblance to Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin. It seemed like an
innocuous observation to me - they both looked pretty similar to me. Vindication from comments
like “you are trashing the site with the political drivel” came several
weeks later when Tina Fey appeared on Saturday Night Live impersonating the political candidate.
The skit was subject to much discussion and dissection, as it was wildly popular online, and has
been credited by some analysts I’ve spoken to as being the reason why the comedy show has
seen a ratings boost in recent weeks (in addition to the millions of views accrued across Hulu,
NBC.com and YouTube from that skit alone).
It seems that NBC might have a double standard, though, when it comes to where their viral video
hits come from. A number of mostly right-wing political pundits are noting this evening that Hulu,
NBC, and YouTube have all pulled what was an incredibly hilarious video lampooning the bailout
bill announcement from CSPAN.
The reason being posited? The clip mercilessly lampooned billionaire liberal activist George
Soros and the Democrat position in presenting the bailout bill. I’ll be honest - it sounds
like a plausible position. Â Not only have many of the cast members (including Tina
Fey herself) come out as saying they’d much rather Palin were defeated at the polls than
continue to have these wildly popular skits, but the skit is one of very few on the show that has
portrayed Democrats in such a negative light in a long time.
Setting aside the politics for a moment, the skit (which I had the good fortune to see on Hulu
before it was pulled this morning) is absolutely hilarious. It doesn’t do the skit justice,
but Michelle Malkin was good enough to transcribe it and post it to her personal blog (Update: Pat
Dollard has bravely locally hosted the clip at his blog). It’s definitely worth checking
out.
What makes things look even worse for NBC in this case is that they’re not only going about
the business of removing the clip wherever it showed up, but they’re also removing
any comments that inquire as to what happened to the clip and why it was removed.
Is NBC really that far into the pocket of the Democrats or is there a more plausible explanation?
I searched for one all over, and the answers were a bit difficult to arrive at due to the fact
that none on the liberal side of the political blogosphere seemed willing to cover the story at
all. The only clues I were able to find were from a blurb towards the end of one of Michelle Malkin’s pieces covering the topic:
One of the rapacious couples featured in the skit was Herbert and Marion Sandler
(portrayed by Darrell Hammond and Casey Wilson). Unlike the other composite figures, the Sandlers
are a real-life couple.
The Sandlers are seething over the skit. And George Soros must be livid as well. Anyone else
smell a legal threat behind the disappearance of the vid?
As you can see from the screenshot of the video, the segment with Herbert and Marion Sandler is
subtitled “People who should be shot.” Â We all know that Saturday Night
Live is a comedy show, and that much worse things are said about folks on comedy programs on a
daily basis, but the likely silver bullet here is that the Sandlers knew that this skit portrayed
not only themselves in a bad light, but their ideology.
From here, the theoretical story diverges based on your personal ideology. One version says that
with the Sandlers being people of means, it was likely no big feat to unleash the lawyers on NBC.
As billionaires themselves (and likely backed up by their friend George Soros), NBC was forced to
pull the clips and aggressively pursue those who would re-post it on YouTube (as well as remove
all comments inquiring on the matter due the pending legal case).
The other version says that the Sandlers and Soros rang up Lorne Michaels and said:
“Buddy. Pal. Friend. Get that crap of the intarwebs. It’s only hurting the cause, and
we’ll compensate you the thirty bucks you would have made from your Partner Account on
YouTube on all those video views.”
Does This Have a Meaning Beyond Petty Political Views?
Regardless of which version you believe, it does mark a very unusual situation for information
dispersion on the web. On the one hand, the toothpaste is out of the tube, and certain segments
of the population know about it. Â On the other, due to a confluence of ideology and
business interests, several very powerful forces (both in terms of corpo
