Wes Anderson, genre Famille Tenenbaum.

width="640" height="480" style="display:block;float:none;" /Japanese firm Hario just came up with
this rather beautiful new speaker system, dubbed Harion. So far, so groovy. It's made of
heat-resistant glass (the first to be like it, according to Hario) and the woofer, two tweeters and
two mid-range speakers proved so complex to create that it took a small army of companiesmdash;23
in totalmdash;to work out how to make them. And its hand-made. So far, even groovier. Here's the
un-groovy bit: all that beauty, presumably wonderful sound quality, and custom-made design means
they cost $168,000. Why do you need heat-proof speakers anyway? Go get some a

A historic Presidential election,
an economic crisis, and even Hannah Montana were unable to capture the #1 spot in Yahoo’s
yearly rankings of popular search terms. Instead, for the 7th time in 8 years, that title goes to
Britney Spears.
In the announcement, Yahoo tries to explain: “In 2008, she made a comeback with a
new album, three MTV Music Awards, a sitcom guest star role and documentary on her rise, fall and
career comeback.” True, Britney actually had a #1 song this year – her
first in a decade. But, Yahoo’s rankings are much more a testament to our collective
fascination with pop culture, as other terms in the top 10 include World Wresting Entertainment,
Miley Cyrus, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, and American Idol. President-Elect
Barack Obama was only the third most-searched for term.
In addition to the most searched terms overall, Yahoo has posted rankings for most searched
politicians, Olympians, news stories, women, famous deaths, economic terms, and
“rising” celebrities.
If you’re thinking the celebrity fascination might be a Yahoo thing, think again. In
Google’s end of year search
rankings for 2007, Britney came in at #3, with terms including American Idol, Anna Nicole
Smith, and Paris Hilton blanketing the top 10. Any way you slice it, it’s fairly clear
we’re all in the wrong business

Hot on the heels of releasing its own set-top box,
Blockbuster said it will expanding its on-demand video
rental service into Blu-ray players in the first quarter of next year, as the company goes
toe-to-toe with Netflix over direct delivery of video
content to your TV.
In an interview with
E-Commerce Times posted over the weekend, Blockbuster CEO and Chairman Jim Keyes spilled the
Blu-ray beans and other plans for the on-demand service:
We’ll be able to put the same capability into a Blu-ray player. We’ll go into DVRs
(digital video recorders), game consoles, etc., just as others are doing to make the same
capability available through other devices.
Not only is Blockbuster playing catch up with Netflix, it’s matching its video rival move
for move. Netflix has the Roku
set-top box; Blockbuster has the MediaPoint. Netflix is on LG and Samsung
Blu-ray players; Blockbuster will deliver to Blu-ray devices. And will Xbox and TiVo, which have
Netflix capabilities also have Blockbuster? Seems like a definite possibility, given Keyes’
statement.
The one area where Blockbuster won’t be copying Netflix is through its rental model.
Blockbuster is sticking with the a la carte service in order to keep the new releases available,
while Netflix has the subscription model, which inhibits its ability to get new releases, because
of licensing issues with the studios.

Is it possible to network two Mac Mini's together so that they actually work like one, more
powerful machine?
I want to setup a dual monitor system. I have a MBP now, which works like a charm, but can't do
dual monitors. As far as getting a Mac Pro, that is past what my budget is able to allow.
Perhaps anyone has any other ideas?
I am looking to spend no more than $1,500.

Both practical
and
not-so-practical applications for the Wiimote have been around since Nintendo's console
launched, but this latest hack is quite possibly the oddest thus far. Ken Moore, tinkerer
extraordinaire, has inexplicably converted the controller into a new-fangled theremin. By coupling
IR-infused gloves with a JV-1080 synth and the Wiimote's built-in Bluetooth, he's been able get his
PC to recognize the left hand position as volume, and the right hand position as pitch. Once the IR
camera in the Wiimote sends the positioning info back to the PC, MIDI sends it to the synthesizer
to create sound. Now, you could just pick up a copy of Guitar Hero or Rock Band if you wanted to casually riff on some
classics, but if you've got an intrinsic urge to perform a rendition of the original Star
Trek theme, this might be your speed. Peep the setup in video action after the break.

Zeropaid File Sharing P2P Technology News -

Once again casts doubt on the identification methods deployed by law firm Davenport Lyons be on
behalf of copyright holders. UK-based law firm Davenport Lyons is leading the charge against
file-sharers in the UK and once again it seems to have netted an innocent elderly couple, this time
for allegedly illegally downloading a German porn movie. A month ago it accused Gill Murdoch and
her husband, aged 54 and 66 respectively, of illegally downloading an Atari video game as part of a
massive 25,000 person sweep despite the fact that the two "have never had, any computer game or
sharing software." The bad publicity is most likely what caused Atari to recently drop plans to use
Davenport Lyons to track down those illegally sharing its video game titles. Now, in a 20-page
settlement later mailed to a Hertfordshire couple in their 60s, two more elderly people have been
seemingly falsely accused of illegal file-sharing, this time for a German porno movie titled "Army
Fuckers.
