aux divers making-of.

Psolenoid, a new
startup launching today in public beta, is looking to help blogs connect with each other more
effectively by offering an enhanced form of the popular trackback feature
found on most blogs. The service generates attractive links that appear at the bottom of a post,
each with a brief summary and thumbnail to help readers determine if the linked blog is worth
reading.
While similar functionality can be found using standard trackbacks and pingbacks, Psolenoid
founder Ethan Gahng says that these are prone to spam and are also not supported on some popular
blogs like Live Journal. Psolenoid verifies its links through a central server, so it can
automatically monitor for spammy links, and is also compatible with most blog sites that
don’t otherwise support trackbacks.
Creating a ‘rabbit-hole’ between blogs is simple. If you stumble across a blog with a
post relevant to one on your own site, you simply enter the URL of your site into the Psolenoid
form in the comments section of their post (assuming they have Psolenoid installed). Psolenoid
will automatically pull in a feed of the most recent posts from your blog, from which you can
choose one, along with a thumbnail and brief summary. After pairing the two posts, Psolenoid will
automatically insert links at the bottom of both of them without any intervention from the owner
of the blog you’ve discovered (they can delete entries later through the service’s
control panel if they’d like). See the video below for a demonstration of the process.
Psolenoid offers two install options: if you’re comfortable giving the service the
administrator password to your blog, it can automatically install itself in a matter of seconds.
More security-conscious users can also install the blog by adding a small snippet of Javascript
to their site.
The biggest obstacles Psolenoid will face will lie in getting people to use it in the first place
- there is little point in using Psolenoid if you can’t find any other blogs that have it
installed (it’s a classic chicken-and-the-egg problem). That said, the install process is
easy enough that the service could easily go viral, especially if it pops up on a large blog that
users frequently link to.

Avner / boxee blog: boxee —
when we planned the Dec 4th release we had minor changes in mind, mainly bug-fixes.... but we
were undisciplined and immature.. and it turned from a minor release into a big one..
— we could not ignore the number of people asking for Netflix on boxee.. so we
called, emailed …
Listen
up, paranoid readers. SanDisk has just
introduced what it's calling "the first secure USB flash drive to fully support Apple Mac OS X
computers." The new Cruzer
Enterprise was designed to meet unique USB security / compliance needs by implementing a
"hardware-based 256-bit AES USB encryption solution that puts mandatory access control on all files
as protection against theft or loss of the drive." Of course, Windows environments are also
supported, and on both platforms users can log in / shut down access to the encrypted storage area,
change and manage passwords, alter contact information (among other preferences), launch online
support (woo!) and view current firmware and drive information. The drive is available in 1/2/4/8GB
flavors (runs around $60 to $300) and plays nice with both OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard) on
the Mac side.
The next gPhone has arrived, and surprisingly, it looks pretty nice. Although we were all very
excited about China’s
Sciphone (not really), the Kogan Agora and
its upgraded twin, the Agora Pro, are probably a much better bet.
It looks rather like a Blackjack, but it fits all the capabilities of a G1 or iPhone into that
thinner form factor. I’m a bit jealous, although I think I’ll much prefer the
keyboard on my handset. It’s being sold for 300 and 400 Australian dollars for the Agora
and Pro respectively, which translates to about $200 or $260 in American dollars.

Polls show that Americans overwhelmingly approve of Sen. Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, but
will the founding fathers veto this popular addition to Barack Obama's "team of rivals"?div

pI have used Ubuntu exclusively for almost 2 years now. In that time I have very rarely had contact
with other distros. The only exception being spending about half an hour in Fedora 8 or 9, quite
liking it and never getting round to making a partition to dual boot between it and Ubuntu
