“Dès que nos instances auront validé le résultat [du] vote,
(…) je veux dire à tous très simplement que je serai le premier
secrétaire de tous les militants du parti socialiste car aucun militant ne doit manquer au
parti” a déclaré Martine Aubry à l’issue du second tour qui
la place en tête de l’élection du premier secrétaire du PS avec 42 voix
d’avance. (et là j’apprends qu’on ne féminise pas “premier
secrétaire” ?)
I’ve been in a pretty deep reggae phase lately, branching out and exploring some artists
I’m less familiar with: Jacob Miller, the Congos, Bunny Wailer, the Gladiators… if
you ever want to get lost and explore some reggae, go to Last.fm and start up Bunny Wailer
Radio, or Culture Radio, or Jacob Miller
Radio. Then grab a Red Stripe (or a Guinness), sit back, and enjoy.
Have you guys & gals seen Three Sheets yet? It’s already 3 seasons old, but I just
started watching a few weeks ago. Zane Lamprey is the brilliant & hilarious host, and he has the enviable job of
traveling from country to country, exploring local drinking culture (often followed the morning
after by finding the best local hangover remedy). It’s such a great show, and
will have you laughing out loud no more than 3 minutes in.
By the way, the channel that hosts Three Sheets, MOJO HD, will be going off the air on December
1st. Worry not, though, Three Sheets will be picked up somewhere, it’s just not clear where
yet. Meanwhile you can catch up on all the episodes online for free at Hulu. And if you flip on Mojo
today, you’ll land right in the middle of a Three Sheets Marathon. Cheers!
So the other day, I was flipping through my HD channels and came across a show called Music
in High Places on Palladia. This
episode featured Ryan Adams in Jamaica. Now, I’ve always been a distant
admirer of Ryan Adams. I have a few of his records, both solo and with the Cardinals (and I need
to get the Whiskeytown albums). But I can feel myself being drawn more and more into his music.
This performance of “Firecracker” on the show was my highlight. I’ve been
playing the hell out of this YouTube video since…

Will a pwnage produced ipsw upload correctly using quickpwn?
I'm trying to determine if I can produce an .ipsw on a mac, then bring the file over to windows to
do the actual upload. Is quickpwn the right tool to do that final upload, or should I just upload
using iTunes?

Having kids is clearly impacting my assessment of applications... And there is no greater
proof for this than a new product by IncrediMail called
PhotoJoy, an
application I would never have given a second thought were I not a father of two.
PhotoJoy is a free downloadable application that uses your photos to produce neat desktop
widgets, 3D photo screensavers and wallpaper collages. You can either use photos located on your
computer, or ones uploaded to your Flickr account. PhotoJoy can also use your Flickr stream to
keep your photos fresh. Notably missing is the ability to import photos from your Facebook
account, which is where I for example keep all my online photos on.
The application should run on most Windows XP setups. Sorry, no Mac support at the moment.
I’ve been running it on my machine for a week and have noticed no negative performance
impacts.
To see PhotoJoy in action check out the video embedded on the bottom of this post for a demo the
company whipped up using some photos of my kids.
In many respects the product is similar to long gone
Filmloop (remember them?) which both had a hard time dealing with increasing competition
courtesy of Slide and RockYou and a blatant lack of support
from one of its VC’s. Filmloop was also a one-trick-pony, whereas PhotoJoy is just one of
several IncrediMail products—HiYo is another one.
Seeing no immediate business model and with the company’s
history in mind, I requested a clarification on PhotoJoy’s ad-ware practices and its
business model strategy. IncrediMail’s CEO, Ofer Adler, addressed my concerns:
“We are never going to push any other installation with this product.
We are going to use an advertising through search business model similar in concept to the one of
picasa / yahoo messenger / now even AVG antivirus and that to have a free version that will
suggest the user during the installation to accept our Google / other partner search properties
such as homepage / toolbar / default search provider, assuming a certain % of the installations
will accept them. (of course any one who doesn’t want will be able not to accept them). In
addition there will be probably a premium version with some more features / content.”
So go ahead and call me a sap, but PhotoJoy puts a smile on my face and sometimes that’s
not only good enough, it’s plenty!

Would you pay for a job search application if you could get two others free of
charge? The people behind JobCompass are hopeful.
For $3.99, JobCompass [iTunes URL] gives iPhone users a
device to scour for jobs with extra emphasis on location - the better to quickly see how far from
home you’re willing to travel. Yes, there’s a reason “the daily grind” is
part of the everyman’s lexicon.
Here’s what you need to know about the download:
Design
As far as design goes, it’s one of the best. The free options currently on the market,
CareerBuilder’s “Jobs” [iTunes] and FICC’s “JOBS!” [iTunes], are noticeable less heavy on pizazz.
It’s not that browsing CareerBuilder’s more
veteran alternative isn’t nice to use. It definitely is. Pardon the pun, but it gets the
job done. It’s just that JobCompass wears itself better. Of course, whether it
$3.99 better is something to take into account as well.
Utility
It’s also useful insofar as mobile access goes. Inputs are easy enough to make. Return data
is conveniently arranged in pockets within a specified region. Subsequently, favored job listings
can be emailed for future reference. (Applying while on-the-go perhaps isn’t the ideal way
to seek gainful employment.)
Plans for Expansion
Currently, JobCompass scours US and English language listings only. (Via Indeed.com, with
connections to Monster, HotJobs, and focused like Dice and Cybercoders in the works.) Its
creators promise ample internationalism (Germany, Canada, UK, France and Spain, for example),
however, as well as and multilingual support in the future.

Peshaw, I say, pe-emshaw/em. I say this because Scottish scientists have created a miniature device
that attacks individual cancer cells using a cylinder of light. A two millimeter saber of light, or
emlight saber/em, if you will. The pinpoint accuracy (no Force powers necessary!) will allow
doctors to deliver meds to precisely where they're needed; alternatively, it could also be used
after a tumor is removed to ensure the surrounding area is truly cancer-free. Apparently, the
device is also going to be very useful for deadly hard-to-reach cancers, like that of the
pancreas./p pHowever, like any medical invention, there's testing and trials to be done, and this
