Planet Maemo -

So, after three years I finally made a new version ttb, my teletekst viewer, which is especially interesting
for Dutch-speakers and linguisticly-inclined people studying West-Germanic languages. The new
version brings user-help and some cosmetic updates.
The program is listed as the 'official' client for Linux by the NOS (state television), and I'm
getting quite some mails -- but interestingly, not one single bug in three years. To be honest,
there is a bug remaining: there is too much bad news in the news
section. I am working on that one, but it might take a while.
I am also preparing a Maemo-version. Interestingly, I had a
version running on an 770 in early 2005 at LinuxTag, but I never got to packaging it.
Anyway, the work has to wait until after my trip to a friend's wedding in the Eternal City of
Rome, where I'll be flying.
As if all of that were not enough, I started a blog with tips for emacs-users; the idea is to have frequent small posts
that show one useful trick: Emacs-Fu. Let's see if I
succeed.0 0

HowtoForge: "This tutorial shows how you can back up and restore hard drives and
partitions with CloneZilla Live. CloneZilla Live is a Linux Live-CD that you insert into your
computer; it contains hard disk and partition imaging and cloning tools similar to Norton Ghost.
The created images are compressed and can be transferred to a Samba-, SSH-, or NFS server or to a
local hard drive or USB drive."

TradeMark Gunderson kindly ripped an out-of-print LP from 1973 by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop,
called Fourth Dimension. It's awesome. If you know only one thing of their work, it would be the
theme to Doctor Who, the venerable BBC sci-fi television series. They also did the sound effects.
And incidental music. In fact, they were a BBC department that produced all manners of strange
noises and sound effects (and theme songs) for over 200 other BBC shows. In doing so, they paved a
superhighway of innovation that led electronic music growth for decades, from studio engineering to
electronic composition to sound collage to synthesizer technology. I came across this album in a
dilapidated Leeds (UK) record shop for just a couple euros and have held onto it for dear life
— BBC Radiophonic Workshop on vinyl doesn’t sell cheap. The standout track
for me is easily Vespucci, a funky saunter with a very sampleable cool synth melody. The abstract
cover from this 1973 release looks quite a bit like a CD exploding, perhaps another
ahead-of-their-time move from these old-timers. BBC Radiophonic Workshop - Fourth Dimension...br

President Phil Harrison announced today at a publisher event that the company plans to revisit
Baldur's Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter Nights and Test
Drive Unlimited -- but not until after 2009 (via Eurogamer). Three of those franchises
have had recent releases ( NWN2: Storm of the Zehir last month, TDU and
D&D Tactics in February 2007).
As for Baldur's Gate, a follow-up to BG2: Throne of Bhaal has been rumored since
2001 from now-defunct Black Isle Studios. It was reportedly mentioned again by a PC Gamer UK editor
as recently as January 2008.
