T-Mobile’s Windows Mobile powered HTC HD2 should only be officially going on sale on
Wednesday, but it seems that someone managed to get a unit before the official date from Walmart,
and even posted a video (after the jump) showing the device being unboxed. HTC’s HD2
is certainly an amazing phone, but with the announcement of Windows Phone
7 Series, you have to wonder if T-Mobile is getting this phone a little too late? Would you
get this phone when it’s released by T-Mobile, or are you planning on holding out for a
newer phone?
T-Mobile's not
officially selling its world-beating HD2
until
Wednesday, but if you've a Walmart nearby and hankering to get HTC's latest and greatest a few
days early, it might be worth a trip out. JDMiPhoner managed to score one from his local Wally
World a full four days early, and he's been kind enough to unbox it, boot it up and give us a few
first impressions on video. Is it really worth a couple of Benjamins with Windows Phone 7
Series just a few months away? Head on past the break if you'd care to be reminded of just how
painful it is to know that this WinMo 6.5-packin' gem
won't ever be upgradable (natively, anyway) to WP7S.
For those of you that really enjoy your football games or soccer as it’s called in my part
of the world, now you can even surf the channels with your favorite sport in mind.Â
This small ball has all of the necessary buttons to make it possible to surf through your normal
channels. It’d be great for dedicated sports fans, but even better for a
kid’s room.
It’ll work just fine with all different TV brands, just like any other universal remote
that you’d pick up from your local electronics shop. It’ll also work
with your DVD player and even your satellite, although I imagine it doesn’t have nearly as
many buttons as your satellite remote. It also has a range of 7.6
meters. As of now it’s actually out of stock, once it’s back it’ll
cost you right around $20 through Thumbs Up UK.
Simply choose your favorite (whether it be that you think they're more interesting, more
appealing, whatever criteria you want to use) in the following match-up. The voting concludes 48
hours from right now!
The seeding was mostly based on the results of our 2007 DC/Marvel Character Poll and then split
into brackets based on when each character was introduced!

38 mins Chelsea really aren't overstretching themselves since going 1-0 up, and
seem content to simply contain Blackburn - which isn't requiring too much of them - and where
possible just hold the ball inside the hosts' half.
37 mins Olsson really isn't happy today and he puts the ball clumsily behind
after imagining himself to be under far more pressure from Anelka than he really was. The corner
sails over the heads of both team's players in the middle and is eventually lumped clear by
Blackburn on the far side.
34 mins The crowd's volume goes up another notch as Jones wins a meaty but fair
challenge with Mikel in the middle of the park. For all their enthusiasm, though, Blackburn
aren't the most incisive and a free-kick won moments later near the centre-circle is once again
used to simply pump the ball hopefully into the Chelsea area, where Alex clears.
32 mins Drogba goes down clutching a rib after jumping for a header with Samba.
Can't really see that there was too much contact and nothing's been given, but either way the
striker is eventually back up on his feet. He's aallllllright, folks.
30 mins ... which is flicked on by Nzonzi, half-cleared and then returned with
interest by Salgado straight into the middle of a group of Chelsea defenders. After that, though,
it is hacked clear.
29 mins The home fans are certainly getting louder as we go along here, and roar
with rather more appreciation that sems strictly necessary as Blackburn win a throw-in in line
with the penalty spot on the left. Pedersen is gearing up for a long-throw ...
26 mins Decent chance for Blackburn there as a free-kick just inside Chelsea's
half is pumped into the box, where Samba heads it down and Pedersen arrives right on cue to meet
the bouncing ball with a half-volley 12 yards out. Sadly it's nowhere near on target.
25 mins "Had to laugh at JT moaning about the referee not showing him
'respect'," parps Adrian Davison. "Does he mean the kind of respect he has shown to his wife,
former team-mates, American tourists, the barbers trade etc? If he was looking for sympathy he
should have looked in the dictionary somewhere between [bad word] and syphilis, as my old boss
would say."
23 mins Chelsea win another corner and this time the ball is only cleared as far
as Ivanovic, whose volley crashes back off the midriff of the nearest Blackburn defender.
21 mins But Chelsea continue to give Blackburn all sorts of trouble whenever
they do come forward, and Kalou - who worryingly seems to have been taking hairdressing tips from
JT - cuts the ball back neatly for Anelka, whose first time jab is just off target. Olsson is
struggling badly with the pace of both those players.
19 mins After a slow start Blackburn are growing in confidence here and Dunn
scampers free down the right now before Ferreira recovers to knock the ball out for another
corner. This time the ball drops straight into the arms of Tornbull.
17 mins And it's Dunn again who finds a yard of space to power a header just
over from in front of the near post.
16 mins Blackburn win a free-kick a little more than 25 yards out after David
Dunn is fouled by Alex and Pedersen's firmly-struck effort was arrowing straight into the left
corner before Turnbull intervened, parrying the ball behind for a corner.
14 mins A clever ball from Pedersen has Kalinic chasing into the area down the
left but he screws his cross badly over the bar. Badly mishit in the end, but Kalinic's runs
certainly seem to be giving Chelsea something to think about.
12 mins Chelsea continue to probe and Malouda whisks a fine ball over towards
the back post from the left corner of the area but Samba heads clear. Blackburn are clearly
looking to play on the counter-attack, and do seem to have a fair bit of pace when they do go,
but it really hasn't helped to fall a goal behind so early.
11 mins "I think David Stinton is generous suggesting JT goes to a barber or
hairdresser," quips Chris in Toronto. "He bears the tonsorial results from a sheep shearer." I'm
going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume tonsorial is a real word.
8 mins ... And this time it's Kalou who rises unmarked to head just over the
bar. Blackburn are a little bit on the ropes at the moment.
7 mins Chelsea come straight at Blackburn again and almost immediately win a
corner. Samba's header is charged down, and Blackburn eventually put the ball behind for another
corner ...
GOAL! Blackburn 0-1 Chelsea (Drogba, 6 mins) Well that didn't take long, did it?
Anelka danced in from the right-hand touch-line and played the simplest of square balls to
Drogba, who dispatched it directly into the bottom right corner of the net for his 22nd league
goal of the season. All too easy.
5 mins Enterprising start from Blackburn, as Diouf gives Olsson an inviting ball
to run onto down the left, but he mishits his cross badly.
3 mins Drogba has a first sight of goal for Chelsea, but his first-time
side-footed area from just outside the D skips wide of Brown's left-hand post. "If John Terry
isn't going to say the word 'conspiracy', I'm not going to say the word 'karma'," chortles Eddie
Robson. "Only seems fair."
2 mins Turnbull comes racing off his line to throw himself on top of a
through-ball intended for Kalinic, only to get up and realise the flag had been up all along.
1 min Blackburn get things underway in a faintly intriguing manner. They had
three men all lined up together on the half-way line on the left, who all dashed straight off up
field as soon as the kick-off was taken. The ball was swiftly played back to the left-back, who
tried to lump the ball forward for the chasing three, but sadly completely misdirected his pass.
Terry's trims "I'm not going to say conspiracy," insists David Stinton. "But do
you think John Terry can ever go to a barber or hairdresser that isn't in on it?"
Team news Hopes that one of Hilario or Petr Cech might be ready to return in
goal for Chelsea have proved unfounded, as Turnbull starts.
As some of you may have already noticed ...John Terry
is not a happy man this week. "I'm not going to say the word conspiracy," parped Terry,
playing fast and loose with the word "not", when asked about Chelsea's Champions League defeat to
Inter. "It is not good enough at this stage of the competition. We were at home and we didn't get
one decision. We do our best to get ourselves in this position and for two years running we get
let down by bad refereeing."
Thankfully JT won't have to worry about dodgy European refs, or their apparent refusal to favour
the home side, this afternoon. But if he isn't able to get angry about the refereeing, then what
can he rant about in the post-match interviews? Answers on an email.
Hello again Or perhaps hello for the first time today, depending on whether
you've just been following our minute-by-minute report of Manchester
United v Liverpool.
United's win in that game means Chelsea are now five points behind the league leaders ahead of
this, the first of two games in hand. A win, clearly, is essential for Carlo Ancelotti's side but
may not be as straightforward as it first sounds. Blackburn have been beaten just twice at home
this season and knocked Chelsea, albeit not their first-choice XI, out of the Carling Cup with a
penalty shoot-out win here in December.
Having said all that, Blackburn's record is probably made to look better by the fact they are yet
to play any of the top three at home in the league and they lost 5-0 to Chelsea at Stamford
Bridge earlier this season. Plus they are missing Paul Robinson, Ryan Nelsen, Gael Givet, Lars
Jacobsen, Vince Grella and Franco Di Santo.
I'm saying this one finishes Blackburn 1-3 Chelsea. But then I have been wrong before ...

Four out of 10 young adults say they will not settle down until they can buy a family home,
housing campaign group finds
Couples are delaying getting married and starting families because they cannot afford to buy
their own homes, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by a housing campaign group.
Four out of 10 young adults have said they will not settle down until they can buy their own
house.
A further 7% of people aged between 18 and 30 said they had put off marriage because they could
not afford to buy a property or were saving up for one.
"We are in danger of locking a whole generation of young people out of the housing market because
prices are simply too high," said David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation,
which commissioned the survey of 1,096 young adults who did not own their own home.
"A chronic shortage of new affordable homes has sent prices rocketing over the last decade, well
out of reach of the vast majority of first-time buyers."
Almost two-thirds of those questioned said high prices were to blame for them being unable to buy
a house. Just over 40% said banks had refused to offer a mortgage. One in five said uncertainty
over the economy was another key factor in their decision.
A record 4.5 million people are on housing waiting lists in England. The federation says rising
unemployment and repossessions have fuelled demand for affordable housing during the economic
downturn. Despite the growing need for cheaper homes, housebuilding has fallen to its lowest
level since 1923. The average first-time buyer's home costs around £135,000, more than 4.2
times the average wage. In 1990 the average was around £46,000, 2.5 times the average wage.
Damian Ross, a 33-year-old IT consultant in Leeds who proposed to his girlfriend two years ago,
said they had decided not to get married until they can afford their own home.
"We only want a modest wedding but feel we can't justify the cost of that until we have saved up
enough to buy somewhere to live together," he said. "But the cost of a home seems to constantly
soar upwards while our savings, with interest rates so low, seem to shrink. We want to be
responsible but in attempting that, I feel like our lives have been put on hold."
The federation has said the government will struggle to build even half its target of 1m
affordable homes by 2020 if the housing budget is not exempted from public spending.
The group has called on the three main political parties to grant housing the same "untouchable"
status as health, education and crimefighting, and to protect it from spending cuts in order to
address what it says is a crisis.

On 21 March 1960 the South African police opened fire on a crowd of black protesters who were
part of political campaign organized by the Pan African Congress (PAC) against pass laws. It is
estimated that 69 people were killed on that day in the township of Sharpeville. This horrific
event is commonly known as Sharpeville Massacre .
Sharpeville massacre was the turning point in the history of political resistance to Apartheid in
South Africa. Since 1994, 21 March is Human Rights Day in South Africa. March 21 is also the
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in memory of the massacre.
Every March 21st, Rethabile posts his own poem to remember Sharpeville massacre. His Sharpeville
poem for this year is posted on Black
Looks:
How could such atrocities happen and no one is punished?, asks Sokari Ekine:
It’s been a long time coming, but change is gonna come, sang Sam Cooke about America. He
could have been singing about South Africa, or the world, even. For what is baffling is how
Sharpeville 1960, Soweto 1976, King’s and X’s murders, the Civil Rights movement,
Mandela’s 27 years in jail, not to mention the thousands tortured and killed in South
Africa, and tortured and lynched in America, what is baffling is how these have not entered the
minds of all and instructed them on the evils of discrimination and segregation in all its forms.
That is truly baffling to me.
It is also amazingly stunning that all these things happened and almost no one got punished for
it, no international hunt for the wrong-doers, no motivation to see them “brought to
justice,” as George Bush the son would say about so many who had committed so less. Today
is a day to remember and to know why it should be remembered
In a recent column in the Beeld, Nico Botha, deals with this anomaly where the Good Friday falls
on the same date as the Human Rights Day, or, even better, the commemoration of Sharpeville Day.
For many the debate was whether we will loose a public holiday as workers.
Where are we to find the key to link Good Friday to the significance of today, Human Rights day,
Sharpeville day ?
I believe the little dialogue between Jesus and Pilate helps us to start to understand this link.
On that fateful day a group of between 5 000 and 7 000 people converged on the local police
station in the township of Sharpeville, offering themselves up for arrest for not carrying their
pass books.
As the large crowd gathered the atmosphere was peaceful and festive with less than 20 police
officers in the station at the start of the protest. Police and military tried using low-flying
jet fighters in an attempt disperse the crowd without success.
As a result the police set up Saracen armoured vehicles in a line facing the protesters and, at
13:15, incredibly, opened fire on the crowd.
He continues:
The official casualties were 69 people killed, including 8 women and 10 children, with more than
180 injured.
To date the worst case of police insanity in the history of this country.
As a result there followed a spontaneous uprising among black South Africans with demonstrations,
protest marches, strikes, and riots taking place throughout the country.
This led to the government declaring a state of emergency on March 30 1960, which saw more than
18 000 people detained.
The rest of the world started to question the regime's racist policies much more openly; South
Africa left the commonwealth a year later.
It also provoked the militarization of the anti-apartheid movement. The ANC's militant wing, MK
(Umkhonto wa Sizwe) and Poqo, the military wing of the PAC, both formed soon after the massacre.
The next thirty years were marked with horrific acts of violence before - to almost everyone's
surprise - the evil of apartheid ended peacefully.
Five years later to the day, American civil rights protesters led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
began marching from Selma to Montgomery. The attempt by 600 marchers to do the same thing three
weeks earlier culminated in Bloody Sunday, an attack by local and state law enforcement
officials. With a protective order from a federal judge, five times as many marchers turned out
for the March 21 walk. A few months later, LBJ signed the Voting Rights Act, which effectively
ended the last vestiges of legal discrimination in the south.
My students (whom, you will remember, are almost all black men) sometimes debate the question:
“Are you a Malcolm or a Martin?” What they mean by this is, “Is social change
best achieved through peaceful means (as MLK carried out his work) or violent means (as Malcolm X
advocated)?”
I cannot even begin to claim to be qualified to answer this question. If we look at political
history, it's clear that MLK's nonviolent methods worked to restore voting rights and some degree
of social equality for American minorities, and they worked relatively quickly. MK and Poqo's
violent methods certainly also had an effect on the apartheid regime, although the struggle was
very long and ultimately did not end because of violence but rather because of economic turmoil
and Mandela's willingness to negotiate a peaceful settlement with de Klerk. But nothing
approaching true equality of economic opportunity has happened for the vast majority of blacks in
either country.
Abioye
discusses the international dimension of Sharpeville Day:
In 1966 the General Assembly of the UN proclaimed March 21, the International Day for the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The UN called on the international community to redouble
its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. The Canadian government and various
institutions in Canada including Carleton University and the University of Toronto, colluded with
the white supremacist apartheid government of South Africa by refusing to
divest and continuing to trade with the government and South African companies.
March 21, 2010, marks 50 years since 69 unarmed protestors were killed by South African police
outside a police station in Sharpeville, south of Johannesburg.
Nelson Mandela burning his pass on March 28, 1960, in protest to the atrocities at
SharpevilleWhen commemorating Human Rights day, during his presidency, Nelson Mandela said:
“21 March is South African Human Rights Day. It is a day which, more than many others,
captures the essence of the struggle of the South African people and the soul of our non-racial
democracy. March 21 is the day on which we remember and sing praises to those who perished in the
name of democracy and human dignity. It is also a day on which we reflect and assess the progress
we are making in enshrining basic human rights and values.”
