href="http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2008/07/chumby_gets_vga_display.html"Chumby/a has yet
another new set of functions added, with support for Pandora's radio streams being the main
attraction this time round. Users will be able to tune in to their favorite Internet music feeds on
the Chumby, flagging down songs that they love while excluding those they have a disdain for. You
can even configure Pandora to be the default alarm, helping you wake up to a decent station of your
choice. The new stream on the Chumby is free, which is a good thing during these times of economic
hardship. Too bad there is no price drop in the Chumby, so be prepared to fork out $180 if you want
one./p pa

Later this month Bleach: Soul Carnival comes out in Japan and it brings 84 characters from
the series with it. This number is split between playable characters, sub-characters, and
characters with extra skills. Huh? The description is rather vague, but I wouldn’t expect to
have 84 super deformed Bleach characters to select from for the platformer. Yeah, Bleach: Soul
Carnival is a platformer which bucks the trend of the ongoing Bleach: Heat the Soul series.
Sony really is cramming fan service in Bleach: Soul Carnival by adding figures, story descriptions,
and character profiles that are stored in the My Room menu. You even get a Bleach alarm clock
as part of Bleach: Soul Carnival which lets you set a voice sample as an alarm sound.

Using Klaxon is pretty straightforward; it's more or less like the standard Clocks and Alarms
application.
Changes:- When integrating with Home Screen, Klaxon now cancels all Windows alarms upon firing an
alarm.
- Turning off the screen when snoozing is now an option in settings.
- Klaxon will now ask for confirmation if you try to create or edit an alarm that is set as
disabled. Some users were accidentally disabling the alarm and pressing OK, and the alarm would
obviously not go off.More...

Designers these days seem bound and determined
to lower our productivity with products that entice us to sleep when we should be working. The
iSleep concept expands on the idea behind products like the Napbook
by making the process a little more high-tech. When you close your laptop, the fan exhaust
automatically fills up the latex-lined cushion with warm air. It also activates a music playlist
that will sooth you to sleep for 10 minutes before sounding an alarm to wake up. I highly doubt
that this product will ever see the light of day though, so it looks like you will have to
continue to rely on you arm, the supply closet, your car or that space under your desk to catch a
little shut-eye. [iSleep

"May the days be aimless. Let the seasons drift. Do not advance the action according to
a plan."
So go the early words of Don DeLillo's masterful postmodernist novel White Noise. But
the desire could easily apply to both The Sea and Cake's song and video, "Weekend." Mop-topped
teens are kicked out of the house and into the world, where they ride bikes, jump into lakes,
goof off, light fireworks and generally forget their Xboxes, all to the kinetic soundtracking of
Chicago supergroup The Sea and Cake.
The band's newest release Car Alarm, out October 21 from indie powerhouse Thrill Jockey,
is packed with similar tracks that struggle for definition even as they ask you to kick back and
enjoy the hyperactivity. The quickness of the effort is deliberate: Band members Sam
Prekop, Archer Prewitt, John McEntire and Eric Claridge are busier than ever. Prekop is a new
father, McEntire has Tortoise and producer-for-hire duties to worry about, Claridge is a busy
painter and Prewitt has a solo career to look after.
As a result, Car Alarm was pounded out in three short months, and sounds like it was
born to run. Enjoy it. Life is short.
Under normal circumstances, one would expect a wandering throng of students to demonstrate animated
displeasure upon encountering a human corpse in the woods; particularly a corpse as fragrant and
festering as that which was found on an August afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee. From a short
distance the male figure almost appeared to be napping among the hummingbirds and squirrels, draped
as he was over the pebbled ground. But something about his peculiar pose evoked a sense of grim
finality– the body language of the deceased. The students
knelt alongside the slumped form, seemingly untroubled by the acrid, syrupy tang of human decay
which hung in the air. They remarked on the amount of decomposition that had become evident since
their last visit, such as the sloughed skin and distended midsection. The insects which feasted
upon the decommissioned man were of specific interest, prompting a number of photographs and
note-jottings. After surveying the scene to their satisfaction, the students strolled across the
glade to examine a considerably more decayed corpse in the trunk of an abandoned car. Their lack of
alarm wasn't altogether surprising, for they were part of the organization responsible for dumping
these corpses– along with dozens more–
throughout the otherwise serene forest. They were forensic anthropology students from the
University of Tennessee. [Editor's note: What follows may be unsuitable for the
squeamish, read on at your risk.]
Windows only: WakeupOnStandBy, a
free automation and timing tool for Windows systems, can be put to seriously helpful use by
anyone who regularly puts their computer to sleep/suspend or hibernate for a quicker start
instead of shutting down. The utility lets you set a schedule for waking up your system, having
it run whatever apps or system processes you want upon waking, but also controlling how those
things run. Whatever your power-up or shutdown needs are, WakeupOnStandBy can
accomodate—have your laptop wake up and play a certain MP3 every morning as a backup alarm
clock, have it sleep at 7 p.m. every day when you're done with work, but only if you're actually
idle, and so on. WakeUpOnStandBy is a free download for Windows systems only; if you're a fan,
tell us your most productive/clever uses in the comments.
If you add alarms and reminders to your iCal events and are tired of putting in one day ("day
before") or two days as the time period, iCal offers a feature to resolve this with a little math.
Go into iCal's preference pane and look towards the bottom. Check the box that says "Add a default
alarm to all new events and invitations." In the box below that, enter the minutes (15 by
default).
To get an alarm the day before -- or two or three, etc. days before -- is to simply multiple 60*24
for a day, 60*48 for two days and so on. iCal will recognize that this is a day and by default make
the reminder set to the day before.

Low-end
cellphones are becoming a trend, most probably because people just want a simple cellphone that
can do basic tasks like making/receiving calls, and sending/receiving text messages. If you're
interested in a cellphone of this type, get ready for the Motorola VU204 that will be
available at Verizon next week.
The flip cellphone has a VGA camera with a self-timer (3, 5, or 10 seconds)
to take good photos, and afterwards you can edit the image by rotating, cropping, and zooming.
While the primary display screen has a resolution of 220x176, the secondary is smaller at 96x80.
Other features on the Moto VU204 include bluetooth as a wireless connection to transfer data,
GPS, and a 2.5mm headset
jack for sound. As usual, the phone has normal tools such as an alarm clock, stop watch, and a
notepad.
The Moto VU204 costs $200 without rebate, or $30 if you go for the 2-year contract.
Alarm clocks in iPod speaker docks are dime a dozen, but many of them come in a modern form
factor. With the
Retro Clock Radio With iPod Dock, things are very different as you return to the past thanks
to its cherry wood finished dock and leather trim. Features include a built-in alarm clock, an
integrated AM/FM radio and the all important snooze button (I can't live without this, that's for
sure). You can pick up the Retro Clock Radio with iPod Dock retails for
$79.99 to go along with the rest of your Victorian furniture.
Want to inculcate a good brushing habit in your kids, but don't know how to? Let Hasbro help with
its new Tooth Tunes toothbrush. These special
bathroom devices will play a tune, where you aren't supposed to stop brushing until the music
stops. Interestingly enough, it uses bone conduction
technology to get the tunes to your head via your jaw, which means you can only hear the
tunes whenever you maintain the proper brushing technique. This toothbrush ain't too green though
as it uses three AAA batteries and comes with a non-replaceable head. Might as well get an alarm
clock for the bathroom as your kids brush their pearly whites till the alarm rings.
The Gun O'Clock alarm clock is
totally different from the rest since it takes a rather unconventional route to get you out of
bed as you will need to aim your gun and start shooting at the target. Each miss will cause the
alarm to continue ringing, but hitting the targer will cause the alarm to cease. Depending on
your skill and aim, you can choose from Normal or Hard modes, where the latter requires you to
hit the target five times - hopefully not simultaneously! Definitely not my kind of alarm clock,
although those who love arcade shooters might want to pick it up.
There's nothing lightweight about Mitsubishi's latest beamer, as the burly
FL6900U checks in with a man-sized 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 4,000 ANSI lumens, an RS-232 control
port, automated zoom / focus and digital keystone correction, and a built-in motion-sensitive
anti-theft alarm. It also packs a man-sized price, but hopefully that corporate card can handle
another $9,995 when this thing lands later in the month.
