to be another good year with British artists comprising the entire shortlist in the record of the
year category at America's most prestigious music awards. /ppColdplay lead the British charge,
having been nominated in a staggering seven categories. That's one more than Winehouse received
this time last year; she later went on to win in five categories. /ppThe group, who released their
fourth album Viva La Vida (or Death and All His Friends) in April of this year, form part of an
unprecedented all-British lineup in the record of the year category. The complete shortlist
comprises MIA, Leona Lewis, Adele and Robert Plant and Coldplay. Last year, the award went to Amy
Winehouse for her song Rehab. /ppElsewhere, Radiohead, Paul McCartney and Robert Plant have all
received nominations, with Led Zeppelin frontman Plant shortlisted for five awards alongside
country singer Alison Krauss for their critically lauded album Raising Sand. /ppColdplay themselves
are no strangers to the Grammys, having already pocketed four of them over the last 10 years. At
next year's event, they are likely to walk away with at least one award, from a list that includes
album of the year, best rock album, best rock song and best rock performance by a duo or group with
vocals (both for Violet Hill), best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals and song of the
year (for Viva la Vida), as well as the record the year award. /ppOf the American acts, hip-hop
artist Lil' Wayne received the most nominations. The New Orleans rapper has been shortlisted for
eight awards in total, including album of the year for Tha Carter III./ppThe nominations for the
51st annual awards were announced last night via a televised concert on CBS, featuring performances
from Christina Aguilera and Foo Fighters. The event will take place at the Los Angeles Staples
Centre on February 8 2009./ppClick here for the full list of a
