Want your Firefox 3 browser to be location-savvy? Mozilla is making that possible with the release of Geode, an “experimental Firefox add-on” intended as something of a holdover until Firefox 3.1 arrives with support for the W3C Geolocation Specification.

The purpose of Geode is to give current Firefox installations the option to specify location, determined through Skyhook’s Loki Wi-Fi mapping service, with varying levels of exactness, to be manually chosen by the user. If you need or want to share exact location, neighborhood or city-level information quickly, Geode makes it happen in much the same way that your standard Firefox installation would request you to save login data to a website.

If you want Geode to automatically submit broad or precise information, or, alternatively, to refuse input of such data, you can check the corresponding box adjacent to the four primary options available. Mozilla states that Skyhook Loki enables Geode users to pinpoint their locations between 10 and 20 meters.

Users not fond of the Wi-Fi-based system that Geode is built to tap will have to wait for Firefox 3.1 to present itself in order to quickly manage Web-based location services through GPS devices. But those in settings home to Wi-Fi signals aplenty will be off to a solid start with the Geode plugin.

A new hip-hop rhythm video game called 'Scratch: The Ultimate DJ' has been announced and it will be accompanied by a DJ turntable-style controller peripheral called the Scratch Deck. It has been developed by 7 Studios with creative input from music legend Quincy Jones III. ZoomProspector, the Real Estate locating service for businesses, has emerged from private beta and opened its doors to the public. Now any business can use the service to find the optimum location to move or start their venture. One side enters the data and the other side searches for what they need and want by using ZoomProspector’s search engine. In a sense, ZoomProspector is a matchmaker for businesses and communities.

The biggest draw to ZoomProspector is the amount of data it possesses on locations thanks to over 150 map layers of information that can be applied by business owners. These layers each reveal something new and entirely different about a specific location such as commute times, airport proximity, education levels and other factors. While popular mapping services such as Microsoft Live Virtual Earth and Google Maps provide visually appealing images of locations, they offer less data. ZoomProspector and its 150 map layers give businesses more than enough data to help them make a decision about where they should setup shop.

This is a useful service for business decision makers and community developers that are interested in real estate transactions. Centralizing all of this data and offering a search tool along with customized maps of information provides users with useful knowledge that they can use when it comes to choosing a location to start or move their business. The features are easy to use and despite the magnitude of data contained at the site, the performance is acceptable.

According to ZoomProspector, “Approximately 750,000 businesses look for a new facility nationwide each year.” There is a definitely market for this service, and though ZoomProspector is currently free, I can easily see premium service plans implemented somewhere down the road.

Tombé sur cette photo de la planète JUPITER prise récemment et qui est la photo la plus "propre" jamais prise depuis la terre. Un télescope énorme au Chili couplé à une lentille spéciale et un ordinateur monstre. Ce qui est marrant c'est que la photo semble déformée au milieu mais en fait c'est à cause (je crois) des "anneaux". La photo est en tout cas étonnante. Jupiter on arrive !

Pentavision has two DJ Max Portable games lined up for release in Korea. DJ Max Portable Clazziquai Edition comes out sometime in October. Pentavision hasn’t announced a set date, but the standalone game should appear around October 16 when Sony Computer Entertainment Korea’s PSP-3000 DJ Max Package Limited Edition arrives in stores. Ruliweb and Play-Asia confirm this with a hovering October target for DJ Max Portable Claaziquai Edition too (thanks Reflect!).

DJ Max Portable Black Square is more enigmatic. Play-Asia has says it’s coming out in November, while SCEK and Pentavision haven’t announced a release date or even a window. Recently, Play-Asia has been on the ball with launch dates so it’s very likely we will see DJ Max Portable Black Square next month.

Play-Asia also notes DJ Max Portable Black Square will contain gameplay features from DJ Max Portable Clazziquai Edition and it’s the “hardcore gamer edition.” DJ Max Portable Clazziquai Edition appears to be more user friendly with a tutorial mode, two button intro mode, and notes you hit by spinning the analog stick. There are a few enhancement features too like 3D movies playing in the background and a mission mode disguised as a club tour. DJ Max Portable Clazziquai Edition targets a more general audience by roping in a popular music group and Pentavision is making an attempt to ease them into the DJ Max series. The two versions of DJ Max coming out in Korea this year will have different song lists and the licensed Clazziquai songs are likely to be replaced DJ Max Portable Black Square. DJ Max Portable Clazziquai Edition is also confirmed to have optional English and Japanese text for easy importing.

In addition to these DJ Max games DJ Max Metro debuts in North America in November too. We’re still waiting to see a final song list from PM Studios, but it will include new music too.

Bilou, le BASIC et l'ALTAIR

Aux âges primaires de la micro-informatique, petit Bilou, qui deviendra grand un peu plus tard, était comme chacun le sait un développeur de garage, auteur d'un drôle de langage, le BASIC.
