"O'Clock" by Nadine Grenier, a student at ESAD Strasbourg in France, is a
kinetic installation made from 300 analog clocks set in sequence to display this sentence every
12 hours when their hands come into alignment: "le temps passe, et chaque fois qu'il y a du temps
passe, il y a quelque chose qui s'efface." The quote is from Jules Romains, a French poet, which
roughly translates in "Time passes, and every time the time passes, there is something that
fades".

Description:
Sleep Therapist analyzes your sleep patterns: you will see when and for how long time you were in
deep sleep and when you were rolling around. Background noises are visualized also, so you may
check if and how they affect your sleep. SleepTherapist also includes a bio-ergonomic alarm clock.
Set the alarm time when you need to wake up, and set the earliest time when alarm should start
(e.g. half hour earlier). If you are just rolling around in the bed between earliest and target
time, the alarm will start and your time is not wasted in bed. You will gain more active time, and
sleep better the following night. Place iPhone besides your pillow before going to sleep - you may
put it to Airplane mode if you want to ensure no electromagnetic waves. Connect to charger and set
auto-lock state to 'Never'. Use your time in bed wisely!

Easywakeup,
The authors about Easywakeup;
We would like to bring to your attention the new program for iPhone called EasyWakeup. EasyWakeup
is a much better alternative to a traditional alarm clock.
Have you ever slept your normal amount, but still felt horrible when you woke up? Or slept only
five hours, but then woke feeling fine? Every night you pass through several stages of sleep. And
your feeling in the morning depends on which stage you're in when you wake. It's much easier to
wake from a phase of light sleep. Smart EasyWakeup alarm clock determines your phase of sleep from
your movement, and wakes you at the most opportune moment. You just need to attach the iPhone to
your hand at night. You specify the alarm window when you want to be woken up, and EasyWakeup will
wake you during a phase of light sleep. You can attach the phone to your hand with a wristband or
sports cover.
I always had troubles waking up, always feeling miserable when getting up and running out of bed,
much like a steamtrain trying to make it's way out of the station, exhausting clouds of grey
smoke.
So I gave Easywakeup a try, I was sceptical at first, but all that changed, read on to know
why.
Me about Easywakeup;
The first issue I had was how to attach the iPhone to my wrist, as I do not own a sportscover, if
you have one, it solves the search for an ideal method.
You do not want your iphone detaching from your wrist, else all your troubles were for nothing, but
also you do not want your precious iPhone to get scratches while you are 'wearing' it in bed so a
sportscover would be ideal.
But I used an old wristband and some rope, you can use a lot of different designs, as long as your
iphone stays at your wrist and turn the screen to your skin.
Does it need to be on your wrist I hear you asking? Yes, because in your lightest sleepphase your
hands are moving more than your biceps are.
When i went to bed with my iPhone taped to my wrist I couln't resist thinking;
Steve Jobs would be smiling from ear to ear when he saw me like this, he'd say; "The iPhone is the
ideal companion, it's there all day, and from now on, it's there right by you when you wake
up."
Also my girlfriend made fun of me when i wore my iPhone on my wrist in bed...
The first night I made a mistake by putting my iPhone on silent, it still vibrates when the alarm
activates but I just plain ignored it and slept on.
The following night I thought about everything, activating airplanemode, reducing brightness,
autolock to never, deactivated silentmode, started easywakeup and went to sleep.
It woke me at 8:57 when my timewindow was between 8:45 and 9:15, i tried to go back to sleep but
felt no urge to stay in bed.
As I normally wake at 10:30 and still feel tired this is a huge improvement for me.
Although the iPhone is not known as a sleepphase detector, it does the trick quite well with this
app.
It's easy to use, intuitive and a great improvement over the stock alarm app.
It's not all perfect though;
What I think needs to be improved
1. Really need to be able to lock the iphone, my battery is totally drained (15% left) when I wake
up, nighttime is when I usually charge. Checking out Insomnia for iPhone, trying it myself, will
update this post when I know more.
2. Silentmode; the stock alarm app ignores the silentswitch and just blasts the music in your ears
to get you out of bed and grumble some more, so an adjustment or a warning concerning the
silentswitch would be welcome.
3. Using your own custom ringtones, at the moment you can only use the standard ringtones, not too
bad, but i love to wake up with September by Earth, Wind and Fire.
This app could be an Appstore app as it is now, it is not conflicting with the rules. When locked
mode is achieved it will be against the rules, but as of now it is still eligable for the Appstore,
although it eats batterypower.
If you want to try Easywakeup for free check http://easywakeup.net/en/content/special-offer

Hello,
I suppose this is one very rare problem I encounter. Just now(not long ago), I change my iPod theme
to a theme with a clock. So I noticed that the time isn't accurate anymore. I did the changes, and
soon later the time changed again. And after each change, the time will be totally different
Example
Real time - 1.00AM
After the changed - 9.43PM
Changed again - 9.13PM
Any idea about this?

Hi, I have an XFXforce mobo model MG-630I-7109 which has an nforce 630i chipset. I have installed
various OSX86 versions on it which run very well except for sound which I have not been able to get
to work. This however is not my concern.
My problem is that the pwnage tool which I use to pwn my iPhone 3G is not working properly.
Although I can install it, run it and create my custom firmware no problem, I am unable to use it
to put my iPhone 3G into DFU mode. The problem seems to be timing. By that I mean that when the DFU
instructions come on and it tells you to prepare to hold the home and power button down after 5
seconds, those 5 seconds take much longer in actuality. After that when it tells you to hold the
power and home button down for 10 seconds and begins counting down the seconds, the seconds count
down very slow and it actually takes about 35 seconds or so to do the count down. I know this not
because I count out the seconds myself but because I am using my watch as well as the computer's
clock for references. So basically, long after 10 seconds have in "actuality" passed, the pwnage
tool is still counting down and is at around 4 still working it's way to 10.
I am having this problem with Kalyway 10.5.2 and iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5
As a side note, I understand that the new unibody macbooks are also unable to put the iphone into
dfu mode using PWNAGE and they too have an nforce chipset, so I am wondering if there is just some
sort of incompatibility with the nforce chipset.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

If you ever get the opportunity to own an iPhone......get one and DON'T think twice.
I've had a 32gb 1st gen touch, 8gb 1st gen touch, 32gb 2nd gen touch and now I have a 16gb
iPhone.
Without a DOUBT the iPhone is leaps and bounds ahead of any of the ipods. It's an absolutely
fantastic thing and I would say that it's the COOLEST thing that I have EVER owned. It's with me
24/7, all day using SMS and making calls, using it for appointments and To Do reminders and alarms,
contacts & address's, calender notations, notes and reminders and any spare moments of down
time I have at my fingertips an excellent gaming platform to kill any waiting time. At night I
listen to music and watch a video and when I go to sleep I listen to relaxation music.
Also since owning it I've realized just how many apps are written for the iPhone. I never realized
it before owning it. There are just so many more apps that are solely for the iPhone and that
totally enhance it's usability even more. The app store and the devs seem more geared towards apps
for the iPhone than the touch.
Honestly, if you are considering between an iPhone or touch purchase, get the Iphone. If you
already have a touch and can't shake the dreaming and coveting all the time of updating to an
iPhone.....DO IT.
Whatever your love for your iPod touch is, it will be magnified incredibly more when you are
holding your iPhone in your hands. There's just so much more to an iPhone than a touch. Before
owning an iPhone I used to compare the touch and the iPhone as pretty much the same......OMG who
was I trying to kid? (well me of course!) after having the iPhone....seriously there like chalk and
cheese. I know ipod touch users don't want to hear that, but it's the truth.
Cost - Well I'd never really looked into the cost that much and after delving deeper into different
plans etc I don't know why I didn't buy an iPhone from the get go. I'm on a $49.00 monthly plan
that gives me $300.00 worth of text and calls and 250mb of data (I paid $200.00 up front for the
iPhone) so it's costing me a lousy $12.00 a week for the iPhone!!! I used to spend sometimes up to
$30.00 a month on pre-paid and that was HARDLY using it and always being worried every time that I
used my old pre-paid phone that the clock was ticking over. Now I can use the iPhone, literally for
me, as much as I want. I also get 20 minutes at night for free and 5 minute free calls 24/7 to
other mobiles on my account which there are 3.
So all in all I now have the greatest tool, phone, iPod, gaming time waster, organizer etc etc
If you toss and turn at night agonizing over getting an iPhone over your iPod touch (like I did) my
advice is to go get one......you won't be sorry.

I think it will be overall faster(bus speed, ram speed, better video) but my question is this:
Is the CPU faster than the old one? I know that they are using a Penryn 45nm version now. Will the
new 1.6 be comparable to the older 1.8. Again I am just referring to CPU.
The reason I ask this is that Penryn saw a 5-10% boost over Merom for the exact same clock speed I
believe.

December 1st is observed around the world as AIDS Day and the occasion is largely publicized.
Unlike the attention World AIDS Day receives, World Disability Day barely registers on the world
media’s radar.

Circle of friends by Flickr
user Jimee, Jackie, Tom and Asha and used

Celebrated every year on December 3rd, World Disability Day honors the contribution made to our
world by those with physical and mental handicap. In case of South Asia, there is severe stigma
attached any kind of physical and mental handicap. World Disability Day is an opportunity to
spread awareness about the rights of the handicapped and that being differently able is not a sin
or something to be ashamed of.
In India, activist Javed Abidi, the country’s leading
advocate for the rights of the handicapped, will lead an event called “Dilli Chalo”
or “Lets go to Delhi” to mark the occasion. It will be held at the historic India
Gate.
Mr. Abidi says that India has made some progress in securing rights of the disabled but
more needs to be done.
“Now, in India, as we are aware, we have had the Disability Act for the last 12 years. Last
year we thought was a momentous year for two reasons. One was that our country ratified the UN
Convention, and the second was that we also got the XI Plan. And in the XI Plan.....for the first
time, there is a distinct chapter or a section on disability. And we thought that things were
going to change. ......if we were look at the last one year, we find that things have not really
moved the way we had expected them to move....”
Along with addressing legal issues related to the rights of the disabled and the opportunities
they deserve, efforts are also needed to help those living in abject poverty because of their
physical condition.
A news report published by the The National shows
how urgently India’s poor disabled citizens need their government to take steps to insure
that they are able to live in dignity.
Shaikh Azizur Rahman reported this November that an elderly father taking care of two
severely disabled bed ridden daughters has asked the Indian President that they be allowed to be
euthanized. He said that he is too poor to take of his daughters who need round the clock care
and attention. Fatema, one of his daughters, says that she too wants her life to end.
“I told my father many times to bring poison for me. Nobody is helping me to kill
myself.”
Across the border in Pakistan, there is still the mountain of odds facing citizens with
disability. Writing for Dawn, Zahid
Abdullah, who works for the Center for Peace and Development in Islamabad, says that country
still has a long way to go before those with different ability can feel that society values them
too. He also expresses frustration at slow pace of legal reform regarding the rights of the
disabled.
Like in India and Pakistan, the society in Nepal too views physical and mental handicaps as a
result of past life’s sins. Handicapped are usually treated as sub human; they have very
limited access to education and meaningful employment. Often you can see a person with physical
disability begging on the streets to sustain life.
Meen Raj Panthi says that
families hide those with a disability to protect their honor and prestige:
“The notion that people with disabilities have equal rights and duty as any other
individual, is largely absent from the popular mindset.”
Children are most vulnerable to discrimination. National Disabled and Helpless
Upliftment Association in Nepal cites an example of a little girl named Manisha held captive
by her parents because she is blind:
“While her parents work at fields, she is often locked in her own room and tethered with
rope by her parents because she has no one to look after her at home. But her elder brother and
sister go to school.”

between wearable technology and what you make?/b/p pThe difference? Well, I never define what I
make as wearable technology. I think I'm just doing conceptual work that's wearable. Wearable
technology is more about focusing on using new technology and making it fashionable, but also
highly functional. I don't think my work was ever designed for utilitarian purposes. But oftentimes
the methodologies of what I'm doing and wearable technology overlap, and that's why people think,

Umbrella/i after I came to New York for ITP. ITP isn't really a fine art school. It focuses more on
collaborative and innovative practices. We had an assignment of observing daily life and behavior,
and I began to observe umbrella usage. Quite interestingly, it was the fall of 2005, which was one
of the rainiest times in New York City. October was a record-breaking month. It rained almost every
day. This was my first time living in New York, so I thought this was usual. Previously, I had
framed myself as an artist working with sculpture and sometimes in performance and photography and
video, but after going to ITP, I began to explore design. This didn't bother me that much, because
the observation of life was already a part of my creative process, which either came out as very
utilitarian or very expressive objects. It always started from the observation of mundane
moments./p pbOne of the things that I find interesting about this piece is that I can imagine an
umbrella that just condenses uniformly, but your model responds to specific scenarios, such as a
particular angle of passing. One or all sides of it can compress. So it's not just something that
has a function that’s designed to meet a generic social scenario; it's something you can
control on a case-by-case basis. I think that specificity is what pushes it beyond just being a
quirky object./b/p pIt's not only helpful to you. It also gives a gesture to other people. I
definitely involved the cultural reference of people bowing to one another in this piece./p pbSo
you see the compression of the side of the umbrella as a gesture of social politeness?/b/p pYes. It
has a morphing gesture, but conceptually it gives other people more space./p pbI can see a similar
interest in modifying and improving everyday city life in a
href="http://www.jooyounpaek.com/ssc.html"iSelf-Sustainable Chair/i/a, which is also controlled by
the user, yet is far more absurdist in conceit./b/p pWith this piece, I was also inspired by New
York and walking in the city. I was getting sick and tired of walking the same commute route from
my station stop to my home every day while carrying a heavy backpack. I wanted to make something
that could make every walk I take more meaningful. The idea was very abstract, so I began to add up
the days and minutes of my commute time. My walk ended up being almost fifteen full days per year.
That time should be more exciting, so I made this chair. I thought that each step could generate
some energy, which can then transform into something else./p centerimg id="image1644"

Chair/i/centerbr / bpIt punctuates the commutes. No two walks are the same anymore, depending on
when you choose to stop or pause or contemplate. I like the way that once the chair becomes full,
it not only gives you the option to rest but sort of forces you to. It makes you stop for a minute.
It seems like a lot of your work is about using fast-paced technologies to slow down, or as
palliatives. The origami project, a href="http://www.jooyounpaek.com/foldloud.html"iFold Loud/i/a,
comes to mind. You actually stitched circuits onto sheets of folded paper, such that a given user's
manner of folding would close the circuits and release specific human vocal harmonies. The possible
combinations aren't just beautiful to the ear; they're soothing./p/b pThere is that kind of
notion./p !--more-- pbBut not, as you were saying, in a practical fashion. More in a fanciful
fashion. Like iSelf-Sustainable Chair/i, this object presents a far-fetched way of relaxing, which
more interestingly offsets our pace of living than an object we could buy from a store for stress
relief./b/p pSome people ask about iPolite Umbrella/i, "So when will we see it on the market?" And
I groan, "Oh, I don't really think it would work that well on the market."/p bpI think the fact
that you're not distributing them as such also lends to how they function conceptually as
art-objects – to their being singular ideas manifest./p/b pYeah. I think it's
about the statement. You mentioned the origami work. It reflects some of my personality, but this
foldout doesn't really tie into my past work./p pbHow do you mean?/b/p pIt's a very design-oriented
work. The object isn't really tied into any context./p pbWell, it's tied into a historical
context./b/p pYes, it is tied into a historical context, but not necessarily into the daily mundane
experiences that a lot of my other work ties into. So I'm having a hard time connecting it to the
other work. iFold Loud/i was more about exploring technology with my personality, in my way. I made
it as my ITP thesis project. I could have gone more in the direction of fine art, but I wanted to
take the chance to use technology and see where it ended up./p bpBut there's also an everyday
reference. I grew up in the States and we didn't make origami, but we would play games with folding
paper, like predicting our futures. Even origami is something that is made in Japan as a way to
pass the time. So while it's definitely more of a niche reference than those in your other works, I
think that there's still a connotation of the everyday. But I agree with you. It is more to the
side. I don't think this means that it's more of a design object, though. I think it actually very
much engages with contemporary conceptual art strategies by taking a method of folding, an idea of
sound production, and the idea of origami as hardware, and drawing an axis between these points.
This seems like a very contemporary approach. I couldn't speak to how much it engages with the
design world, but I think it's very relevant t | |
