ISO MPEG-4 compliant video codec

I have been trying to get the HDMI sound to work from my Visiontek HD4870.

Vista 64 sp1
Using Official DVI adapter

Connected to a SONY ST-DGR820

I am using the latest Catalyst(8.11) and Realteck (2.09) Drivers

The CCC sees my SONY receiver and recognizes it as a HDMI connection. The Device shows up as a VisionTek HDMI audio in Playback devices. When I try to configure speakers I can only configure stereo not 5.1 or 7.1, the option does not even appear.

I get normal stereo sound from Windows, and I do get PCM 5.1 sound when playing movies in VLC and GOM Media player after installing the proper DTS codecs and setting the players to use SPIDIF.

Because this works with 5.1 sound in these programs does this mean its not a Physical DVI problems that I would need DVI doctor for?

When I tried to play games I only get stereo, I don’t see any options to use SPIDIF in the games either in the individual game settings or in the OS itself.

I also did a fresh install of Vista on a spare hard drive with all the rest of the same equipment and get the same problem.

What am I over looking? Am I doing something wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Tout ce qu'il faut pour lire les fichiers aux formats audio et vidéo les plus populaires

I have some MPG files which I want to edit (they are of stuff I've filmed), but I can only open them using the VLC media player. I need to open them using Final Cut Express, but the programme doesn't have the right codecs. One friend suggested downloading Compressor, but I'm not sure how that will help me. Any suggestions on how I can import these files into Final Cut Express - I have version HD 3.0?
