I have a unibody Macbook 2.4 with 4GB RAM, running the latest version of Leopard (10.5.5). In
activity monitor, I see each process has uses virtual memory of over half a gig, with a total VM
size of over 40GB. Is this normal? Is all this virtual memory eating space on my hard disk?
Why does each process require so much virtual memory? Is all the software on my Macbook,
bloatware?
The attachments show what I am saying. Do others also have similar VM statistics?

A solution for playing JVC camcorder(mod files) problems
Question 1: "I recently purchased a JVC camcorder that records video as .MOD files. I can't seem to
edit the files or play them on my PC. Is there a way to convert .MOD files to .MPG or something
that works on my computer?"
Question 2: I have a video file off my JVC as well and wonted to play it on WMP so i changed the
file extension from .MOD to .MPEG. Now the problem i have is that the video quality is poor.
It?ˉs like the video cant keep up with the playing speed, lines drag when something moves. I
know this quality is poor because it plays fine on cyberlink power dvd. Any help plz on how to fix
the poor quality????
Question 3: I change the ext. mod to avi or mpg , and it works but the problem no sound at all..
.try to burn it into dvd, no luck, i try to burn it into vcd no luck also...
Introduction: .MOD files are JVC's implementation of MPEG-2 transport streams, similar to a VOB
file on a DVD or the M2T files used on Sony hard drive camcorders.
Solution:
I actually just found a program called ********* Mod Video
Converter. This program will allow you to export your video(s) as .AVI,WMV,MP4,3GP files etc.
Here?ˉs a brief overview of how to do it:
1. Install and run *********
Mod Video Converter
2. Add files
3. Set output video format
4. Click the ?°Start?± button to start the conversion.
This tool also allows you to split, join, crop Mod/Tod files, it is very powerful.
I hope this helps, if anyone has a better method or a better software for doing this, please let me
know!

I'm doing a project that has a fast coming deadline (December 5th). I need someone who would like
to draw around 75 images for me. The image size would be 5" x 6" or something that I could scan
into the computer and use in a presentation.
Black and white is fine if color is too much trouble.
The images are basically homeless people walking around town, sleeping under a bridge, and pushing
their shopping cart around.
I realize the date is right around the corner, so please don't tell me how its a ridiculous
request. I GET THAT I also can not pay anyone something insane. I put an add on craigslist
and got a response for $4500!!
I cleared it with my manager to do some over time so I can clear $100 to pay someone, but thats my
limit.
Anyways my cards are on the table. Any help would be great! Again please don't just respond with
how I'm a cheap skate, or how its a ridiculous request, or whatever. I'm sure all your responses
are exactly correct, but I have billion craigslist responses to tell me; I don't need yours as
well.

I recently strapped on a Accelero S1 Rev.2 on my HD4850 as it was running insane temps. Idle used
to be 76 degrees & loads would skyrocket to 105 degrees.
Post Accelero, it has been 42 degrees on idle & load barely goes above 54 degrees. Anyway my
main query was along with the Accelero S1 I got some VRM heatsink modules. I tried fitting those
onto the the VRM but not sure if I have fitted it properly. I got 4 VRM RAM sink along with the
package & 3 of them fit properly but only one seem to be pretty loose. I suspect the sticky
base is a bit wobbly.
Will it be a problem if one of the VRM sinks is not fitted properly? What are the consequences?
Also can anyone show me which exactly is the VRM module which needs cooling on a HD4850?

It's a little speculation, but I read that the Storm's screen must actually be pushed down for keys
to be "pressed." Since a lot of people clamor for "tactile feedback," I want to know who thinks
this would be either needed or wanted on the iPhone.
I personally think the iPhone system is fine as is. If I want any sort of feedback when typing, I
turn the sounds on. I'm not big into the two-thumb texting stuff (it's against my typing religion),
so maybe that has something to do with it. I just use my right index finger to type. It's not fast,
but it's accurate. I spent too much time learning the right way to use a computer keyboard to go
blow my mind with using THUMBS to type. Eek.
I'm glad to see the Storm come out and give the iPhone a little competition, but the reviews seem
to be saying that it's no game-changer like the original iPhone. But maybe it'll push Apple to add
that nifty memory card slot.

As you might already know, I am a bit enthusiastic when it comes to distributed computing.
I’ve been looking for aliens through SETI@home, later with
BOINC… but then, Folding@Home showed up and I became an enthusiast for
this valuable project from Stanford University. My family had some share of dealings with
Alzheimer’s (aka AD) and Parkinson’s diseases (aka PD) and I won’t go here into
what psychological and ultimately financial stress that families around the world, including my own
- have to endure.
Folding@Home is also a project that pioneered the use of GPUs for distributed computing (if I am
wrong on this one, feel free to correct me). Back in the summer of 2006, I heard that ATI and
Stanford are working Folding@Home GPGPU client. I now remember my articles and articles from a lot
of colleagues who all criticized Nvidia for not having a F@H client.
Fast forward to GTX280 launch and the Vijay Pande team debuted the Folding@Home client for Nvidia
chips as well. Nvidia and ATI lead a short marketing war who can fold better and things went
quiet… apparently, for a reason.
The reason why things went quiet is probably the ”inconvenient
truth”: ATI showed up with Radeon 4800 series and demolished
Nvidia’s dominance in the segment, with GTX260 and 280 going through radical price drops in
order to stay competitive. However, ATI’s Radeon 4800 series has one field where the card is
losing against 5-10x cheaper cards: Folding@Home.
The 10x argument lies in comparison between current ATI’s flagship, the Radeon 4870X2 and
Nvidia’s GeForce 9600GSO. This $50 card can easily out-fold ATI Radeon 4870X2, which retails
for more than 500 USD/450EUR in respective markets.
Damn, I need to get my 8800GS SLI rig folding.... double the 4870 PPD?

Thought I'd put it here rather than get flamed in the crossfire between iPhone and BB Storm
threads.
I was at T-Mobile checking out the G1, and it had a Nintendo Emulator on it for direct download, as
well as a bunch of ROMS?
Yes, we have these available through back-doors such as Jailbroken iPhones, and you should only
have a ROM image if you own the original cartridge. But available for download on any G1 phone by
just anyone through the official store?
Won't Nintendo get a bit angry? Especially if you can still purchase these games for download on
the Wii?
Just wondering....
Welcome to "Open Source"...
