When we
announced
the 7 finalists of the Amazon Web Services
Startup Challenge two weeks ago, we dubbed Yieldex an “online ad optimization engine for
Web publishers”. It’s time to take a closer look at what that means, because the
company has just been awarded the top prize in the contest, bringing home $50,000 in cash,
$50,000 in services credits plus an investment offer from Amazon.com.
Yieldex, not to be
confused with similar service
YieldBuild, has a solution for managing ad inventory, enabling Web publishers to allocate
advertising campaigns more efficiently by forecasting overlapping inventory and predicting how
ads are going to deliver. All in all, it seems like a nice solution to hmm … yield more
revenue out of premium ad inventory, but I’m left wondering if ensuring optimal ad
campaigns isn’t something that’s baked into most ad serving solutions already, or at
least should be? I mean, it’s one of the core reasons for using an ad serving system in the
first place, right?
Amazon.com annually rewards the most innovative US startup built on its cloud-computing
infrastructure, and they get hundreds of applications every year, so there must be something
about Yieldex that made them the winner.
So, congratulations to Yieldex and its founders, which consists of industry veterans from
Matchlogic and NetGravity (check out CEO Tom
Shields’ blog post on winning the award). The prize comes in addition to a previous,
undisclosed seed
funding round from Sequel Venture Partners, First Round Capital and Woodside Fund.

 Category: Productivity
Released: Nov 20, 2008
Price: $4.99
Description:
Ever wonder where the day went? Why
its
5
oclock
already, but your workload has actually increased rather than decreased? You try to think back and
remember where the time went, but you can only recall lunch and being interrupted right as your
were about to hit the zone. Between ringing phones, the never ending inbox onslaught, IMs bombarded
with YouTube video links and the time vampires lurking at every turn, there is just not enough time
in the day. If this sounds familiar,
youre
not alone. Small interruptions add up, and before you know it your deadlines have come and gone,
there is a voice box full of messages, and
youre
no farther along than when the day started. In fact, each minute that goes by it seems like your
sinking deeper. We all want more time. But the bottom line
isno
matter how hard we wish, there will never be more than 24 hours in the day. Sacrificing sleep, time
with loved ones, food and other necessities may work in the short term, but it
wont
last. Trust us on this. It is not a viable long-term solution. Something will give!
Weve
seen it some many times before. The ripple effect of unproductive day has repercussions way beyond
the office. The weight of work and unmet deadlines can result in snapping at loved ones,
disengagement from friends, and even depression. But there is hope. There is a way you can get more
done in a day. Even up to 2x the amount you currently do each day. Imagine that. Take control of
your life by actually seeing where you spend your time. This is the all important first step in
turning the tables from slave to the clock to master of. Why is this so revolutionary?
Weve
all heard the expression,
Time
is
money.
Well
were
about to prove it. This application you will actually make money. And a lot of it! How, exactly,
will this happen?Well, we have to start by valuing your time. What is your time worth?
Lets
say for example, you value 1 hour of your time at 30 dollars/hour. By using GooeyTimers to keep
track of your time, you can make adjustments to increase efficiency. More efficiently using your
time and increasing productivity, will create time. What used to take 3 hours, will now take 2.
That extra hour is worth 30 dollars, and it is now your pocket. You just made your money back 10
fold.
Lets
say GooeyTimers gains you a conservative 5 hours over the week, you just made yourself 150 dollars
week, which if 600 dollars month! You can do the math from here on out. All this gain just more
efficiently managing your time! Now for the best part,
its
simple, so simple! With just 2 taps of the screen
youre
tracking your task. And things only get better with
GooeyTimers
multi-timer ability. Enter your task and start the
clock..if
you are interrupted by a phone call, simply start a second timer, which will record your second
task the phone call. Once done, stop the second timer, enter a name, and resume the first task.
Continue on in this manner until your task is done. Once done
youll
see where your time went. You can than make adjustments to your schedule to make your workday that
much more efficient. Features2 Touch Timer Start

Summary: This article introduces a new forward population genetic simulation
program that can efficiently generate samples from populations with complex demographic histories
under various models of natural selection. The program (SFS_CODE) is highly flexible, allowing
the user to simulate realistic genomic regions with several loci evolving according to a variety
of mutation models (from simple to context-dependent), and allows for insertions and deletions.
Each locus can be annotated as either coding or non-coding, sex-linked or autosomal, selected or
neutral, and have an arbitrary linkage structure (from completely linked to independent).
Availability: The source code (written in the C programming language) is
available at http://sfscode.sourceforge.net, and a web server
(http://cbsuapps.tc.cornell.edu/sfscode.aspx) allows the user to perform simulations using the
high-performance computing cluster hosted by the Cornell University Computational Biology Service
Unit.
Contact: rhernandez@uchicago.edu
Supplementary information: An extensive user's manual, perfor-mance statistics,
and comparisons of patterns of genetic variation generated by SFS_CODE to theoretical
expectations under various non-stationary demographic histories and models of natural selection
are available on the project website: http://sfscode.sourceforge.net.

pMost lasers rely on continuous waves of energy to generate heat that allows doctors to make cuts
during surgery, computers to burn information onto CDs and DVDs, and scanners to read bar codes.
But a newer type of laser promises to do all of these things more efficiently using quick, short
blasts of energy. This pulsed-laser technology has been around since the 1980s but high cost has
kept it from becoming widely used. Petaluma, Calif.ndash;based Raydiance, Inc., however, hopes to
overcome that obstacle with the latest version of its ultrashort pulse (USP) laser system unveiled
Wednesday. a href=http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=ultrashort-pulse-laser[More]/a

researchers want to put brain-related senses like perception and interaction into hardware and
software so that computers are able to process and understand the data quicker while consuming less
power, said Dharmendra Modha, a researcher at IBM. The researchers are bringing the neuroscience,
nanotechnology, and supercomputing fields together in an effort to create the new computing
platform, he said./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"b[ Stay ahead of advances in technology with

class="ArticleBody"There is a problem in the core philosophy of computing and a new approach is
needed, Modha said. Today#39;s model first defines objectives to solve problems, after which
algorithms are built to achieve those objectives./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"quot; The brain is
the opposite. It starts with an existing algorithm and then problems [are] second. It is a

class="ArticleBody"For example, the new approach could help efficiently manage the world#39;s water
supplies through real-time analysis of data that could help discover new patterns, Modha said. A
network of sensors could monitor temperature, pressure, wave height and ocean tide across the
oceans. quot;Imagine streaming this data to a global brain that discovers invariant patterns and
associations that no algorithms of today can do,quot; Modha said./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"It
will also be able to sense the world#39;s markets, like stocks, bonds and real estate, extracting
patterns and associations in the way the brain extracts information from those environments./pp
page="1" class="ArticleBody"The research is not about concrete applications yet, but about
understanding what the brain does and its implementation in computing, Modha said. The research
includes work on nanotechnology, which has made it feasible to realize the brain function in
cognitive computing chips that rival the low-power and small space of the brain, Modha said.
Neuroscience has also matured, and supercomputing technology has progressed enough for IBM to
undertake large-scale simulations to test a wide variety of hypotheses./pp page="1"

technological breakthroughs, Modha said. He didn#39;t provide a timeline for implementation of the

lead to an entirely new computer architecture and programming paradigm that could overwrite the
traditional ways of computing, Modha said./pp page="2" class="ArticleBody"For the research IBM is

Description:
Vocabulary Flaschards for the GRE is the best GRE vocabulary studying aid for the iPhone and iPod
Touch. The application comes with 30 sets of vocabulary words with almost 50 words in each set, for
a total of over 1400 vocabulary words from past GRE tests. The Vocabulary Flashcards for the GRE
application helps you learn over 1400 of the most commonly tested and most complicated GRE words by
providing multiple definitions for most words as well as the etymology for each word. Furthermore,
the "toss" function mimics the way you would go about studying vocabulary from a physical set of
flashcards. The "toss" button tosses out, or hides, any flashcards that you have memorized. In
order to learn these words most efficiently, you should go through a vocab set once all the way
through. Then, go through the set once more, tossing out any cards you have memorized. After you
have gone through the set a second time, and tossed out some of the flashcards, go through the set
again, tossing out any more cards you have memorized. Keep going through the sets as many times as
necessary until you toss out all the flashcards. Then, move to the next vocab set. Your goal is to
go through a vocab set every one or two days. If you know all these words, you'll ace the GRE.
Please go to http://www.totaltestprep.net/products/products.html to download
the first vocab set of 48 words. GRE and Graduate Record Examination are the registered trademarks
