You would think all of these would be common sense. They are not.
Keep all of your valuables out of sight in your vehicle when left unattended. This includes sat.
radios and gps units. If you choose to leave these two items in your vehicle all of time, engage
their password protection if equipped.
Put all purchases in your trunk and engage the seat locks (if equipped) and disable the push button
trunk release in the passenger compartment if you can. Thieves have figured out that people keep
their Christmas presents in their trunks, so make as hard as possible for them to gain access.
Never leave book bags, back packs, purses, etc. in your vehicle at any time. They will steal the
bag and figure out what’s in it later. Don’t give them a reason to break into your
vehicle and you won’t have a problem.
Before you wrap your electronic gifts write down the serial number and model. This will aid in a
possible recovery if they are stolen. Remember the serial number will be on the device itself, not
the box. Also write down the serial number on bicycles. These get stolen all of the time post
Christmas and it makes it very difficult to prove ownership if the bike is located.
Always lock your vehicle. Some people believe they would rather leave their vehicle unlocked just
to prevent a thief from breaking the glass. This is just stupid.

See that Meizu M8 there? See that
multitool-equipped hand? Yeah, you know damn well what's going to happen next, and we think the
translated text expresses it best: "Well, the last one of the screws removed, MEIZU M8 has been
completely broken up in a heap before us." The M8's guts make for some predictably boring pictures
(unless you're really into circuitry), but the interesting bit might come in the accompanying
narrative where we learn that the phone seems pretty dang solid -- good build quality, good
materials, and name-brand components. That being said, they found it wasn't quite up to the iPhone
3G's standards for sheer manufacturing prowess -- but hey, they wouldn't want to take any cues from
Apple, would they?
[Thanks, Jeff]

width="1" height="1" //divpAt first sight, they could be the grounds of an English public school,
with neatly trimmed lawns and earnest young pupils walking between classes. But this is the site
that India believes is the headquarters of the terrorist group responsible for last week's Mumbai
attacks. /ppBoarding houses provide spartan accommodation, and orderly rows of trees line the
sprawling site, just outside the eastern city of Lahore. Smartly turned-out pupils perform science
experiments in the classrooms, peering into microscopes and connecting electric circuits. There is
a farm, a swimming pool and a hospital. /ppIndia, and some western terrorism experts, believe this
is the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a banned Islamist group suspected of carrying out last
week's Mumbai attacks. But according to the organisers of a tour of the site yesterday, it is
simply the educational and charitable arm of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, an Islamic group that is legal in
Pakistan but declared a terrorist organisation by the US./ppFollowing Pakistan's ban on
Lashkar-e-Taiba in 2002, it is widely believed to have morphed into Jamaat-ud-Dawa, though the two
claim to have no link./ppThe campus, set in countryside at Muridke, an hour's drive from Lahore, is
the place that India would be likely to target if it took retaliatory military action over the
Mumbai attacks. /pp"This is a residential and educational complex," said Abdullah Muntazir,
Jamaat-ud-Dawa's spokesman, taking journalists around the Muridke site yesterday in a media charm
offensive launched by the group. "You can see for yourself. This is all Indian
propaganda."/pp"Jamaat-ud-Dawa speaks up very loudly against Indian conspiracies; we let the public
know that India is the real enemy. That's why they always point at us."/ppThe carefully
orchestrated visit took foreign and local journalists around the beautifully equipped school and
hospital. The school follows the national curriculum, the headteacher, Rashid Mehnaz, said, taking
pupils from around the country. The poor were given financial help, with richer pupils paying fees.
Mehnaz condemned violence, saying suicide attacks were "absolutely wrong - it is forbidden in
Islam"./ppA press conference and sumptuous lunch was laid on for journalists. However, the madrasa,
mosque, and other facilities remained out of bounds, and once the official tour was over the media
were no longer welcome. Although the group had said anyone was welcome to look around the site at
any time, the Guardian's attempt to take up this offer after the tour was met with a heavy-handed
response: burly young men arrived on motorcycles and circled, demanding that we leave. /ppGiven the
attention that has suddenly been focused on Lashkar-e-Taiba, and on to the complex at Muridke, the
invitation to visit may have been arranged after a prod from the Pakistani authorities.
/ppCertainly there were plain-clothed officials present, who said they were members of "special
branch" - often a euphemism for the Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency. They wanted to provide an
armed escort back to Lahore, but why intelligence agents were there - and why an escort might be
necessary - was unclear. Muridke is not in a dangerous part of Pakistan, and the offer was
declined. /ppIt has long been said that the ISI has secretly backed Lashkar-e-Taiba, though the
agency always rejects the accusation./pp"The Indian media is creating a hype, but I don't think
they'll bomb us," said Muntazir. "If they did, it would be up to the government of Pakistan and the
armed forces to deal with it."/ppHe said Jamaat-ud-Dawa was a peaceful group, but it had
"supported" Lashkar-e-Taiba until that organisation was banned. He said that "morally", they still
backed those who were fighting Indian rule in Kashmir. Lashkar-e-Taiba is the leading such group.
"The [Kashmiri] freedom fighters are doing their job very well. Their cause is just," said
Muntazir. "But I can't speak on behalf of Lashkar-e-Taiba."/pdiv style="float: left; margin-right:

pTelemedicine has caught on over the past several years as an effective way to bring patients and
specialists together via the magic of video conferencing. Unfortunately, most telemedicine setups
require the patient to be in a room equipped with a computer, camera, microphone and monitor, so
that specialists can remotely assess his or her condition. Could robots be the answer, providing
both patient care and a view for specialists checking in from afar? a

Konami will bring an all-new Suikoden to DS next March titled Suikoden Tierkreis. Here are the
first batch of shots.
Official blurb reads: Suikoden Tierkreis casts the player as a member of a tightly knit security
force in a remote setting called 'Citro Village'. During an ongoing task to get rid of the land's
fearsome creatures, players uncover a mysterious phenomenon... a light emits something inexplicable
at the top of the tower in the old ruins. From then on, the player and their comrades' destiny
begins to change...
The Nintendo DS title boasts a cast of 108 fully interactive characters. Each will work
independently of the others, but can be recruited to make a four-person party, ideally suited to
the tasks ahead. Each character enjoys a detailed history which is unfurled as the game progresses,
with voice-overs and animated sequences fleshing out their many stories. From these, players than
assemble their team to utilise the various skills on offer, while weapons such as swords and bows
can be equipped and customised. Together, they are then pitted in turn-based battles against the
many hostile creatures that lurk within Suikoden Tierkreis.
In addition to running battles, players and their parties will also be given specific quests during
the course of the adventure. Suikoden Tierkreis is set in a series of parallel worlds, wherein
users play in their own bespoke locale, while other players inhabit their own. This system will
introduce the user to even more characters and the opportunity to make friends, while the Wi-Fi or
Wireless communication capabilities of the Nintendo DS also allow users to send characters to these
other worlds to receive missions from other players. Extra items such as money and items are
offered as rewards, and ensure that the game is capable of constantly surprising the player.

to that a

Apparently the engineers over at Novatech never got the memo that said technology was a
href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sideshow/"doomed for failure/a, as they certainly included a
2.5-inch color display on the lid of the X50MV Pro gaming laptop. That nifty inclusion aside, the
unit also packed some pretty stout internals, though reviewers did lament the GeForce 9600M GT
graphics chip. Still, the LCD was deemed gorgeous to look at, the inbuilt TV tuner was a welcome
extra and performance was highly lauded in every area except hardcore gaming -- which is obviously
odd given the nature of the beast. In the end, critics couldn't wholeheartedly recommend this
machine over a litany of others for close to the same price, but there just might be a few unique
features here that push you over the edge.pFiled under: a

class="ArticleBody"Datacenters increasingly will be built in separate zones or pods, rather than as
one monolithic structure, Gartner analyst Carl Claunch said in a presentation about the Top 10
disruptive technologies affecting the datacenter./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"b[ For#160;recent
news#160;on the modular design approach to datacenters read quot;a

sold in large shipping containers equipped with their own cooling systems. But datacenter pods
don#39;t have to be built within actual containers. The distinguishing features are that zones are
built with different densities, reducing initial costs, and each pod or zone is self-contained with
its own power feeds and cooling, Claunch says./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"Cooling costs are
minimized because chillers are closer to heat sources; and there is additional flexibility because
a pod can be upgraded or repaired without necessitating downtime in other zones, Claunch said.
(Read more about how to a target="_blank"

gives you the ability to refresh continuously and have higher uptime, quot; Claunch said./pp
page="1" class="ArticleBody"By not treating a datacenter as a homogenous whole, it is easier to
separate equipment into high, medium, and low heat densities, and devote expensive cooling only to
the areas that really need it, Claunch added./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"The move to pods and
zones is among what Gartner calls the most disruptive technologies affecting the datacenter. In no
particular order, these technologies are a target="_blank"
href="http://www.networkworld.com/supp/2008/ndc3/051908-storage-virtualization-status-report.html"storage
virtualization/a ; cloud computing; new server architectures; PC virtualization; enterprise

unified communications; zones and pods; and a target="_blank"
href="http://www.networkworld.com/supp/2008/ndc1/"green IT/a .#160;/pp page="1"
class="ArticleBody"Many of these technologies have been covered by Gartner in previous lists

href="http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/101408-gartner-strategic-technologies.html"10 strategic
technologies for 2009/a quot;). Enterprises won#39;t have to wait long to take advantage of these
technologies: All these trends are beginning to happen now or will do so within the next few years,
Claunch said./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"If Gartner#39;s predictions are correct, the server
industry is soon to undergo a significant transformation./pp page="1" class="ArticleBody"Gartner
views today#39;s blade servers as an interim technology that will give way to a new, more flexible
type of server that treats memory, processors and I/O cards as shared resources that can be
arranged and rearranged to suit a business#39;s needs. Like virtualization technology, this
computing fabric of the future will make hardware more adaptable to changing needs./pp page="1"
class="ArticleBody"IT shops will be able to create machines of whatever size they need, and shift
resources around as often as necessary, Claunch said. In addition, instead of relying on vendors to
decide what proportion of memory, processing and I/O connections are on each blade, enterprises
will be able to buy whatever resources they need in any amount, a far more efficient approach./pp
page="2" class="ArticleBody"While rack servers are self-contained units, today#39;s blade approach
allows a combination of some components, Gartner notes. ( a
href="http://www.networkworld.com/buyersguides/guide.php?cat=881344"Compare/a blade servers.) I/O
cards don#39;t have to be included in each blade because they are accessed over a shared fabric.
Memory and processors are still fixed parts of each blade, however, limiting flexibility. If extra
memory is needed, you may have to buy another blade instead of just accessing the memory of another
one, Claunch said./pp page="2" class="ArticleBody"quot; The next step in this progression is the
introduction of technology to allow several blades to be merged operationally over the fabric,
operating as a larger, single system image that is the sum of the components from those
blades, quot; a Gartner PowerPoint presentation states. quot; The fabric-based server of the future
will treat memory, processors and I/O cards as components in a pool, combining and recombining them
into particular arrangements to suit the owner#39;s needs.quot;/pp page="2" class="ArticleBody"For
example, an IT shop could combine 32 processors and any number of memory modules to create one
large server that appears to an operating system as a single, fixed computing unit. This approach
also will increase utilization rates by reducing the resources wasted because blade servers
aren#39;t configured optimally for the applications they serve. quot; This evolution will simplify
the provisioning of capacity to meet growing needs, quot; Gartner states./pp page="2"

XJ/em/strong/smallbr //div br /There's a new Jaguar XJ coming at some point, but there's not much
wrong with the current top cat. The XF likely signals a shift out of the generations-long styling
rut the brand has been in with its revered sedan, but it's hard to find fault with an all-aluminum
sedan sporting V8 power and serving up old-world cachet. To sweeten the deal, Jaguar has added more
standard content to the 2009 XJ, though we still don't get the 2.7-liter diesel that other markets
get to enjoy. Settling for the AJ V8 is no chore, and the XJ Super gets the supercharged 4.2-liter
engine we know and love from the XJR and others. br /br /Newly designed seats improve leg- and
footroom for rear seat passengers, and seat heaters are standard in all models. Soverigns get
cooling functionality added to the chairs, as well as 20" wheels, soft grain leather, Jaguar
branded sills and the traditional wool rugs in the rear. Navigation is standard in Executive and
Soverign trim levels, along with parking radar, and bi-xenon lighting. If these are the last XJs
before the model is redone with an all-new look, they may be very well equipped final examples of a
classic sedan idiom.em /br /br /div class="postgallery"pstrongGallery: a

pThis holiday season all kinds of products are coming equipped with GPS receivers to tell consumers
exactly where on earth they are. The choices include dashboard navigators for cars, pocket
navigators for humans, ldquo;golf buddiesrdquo; that reveal the distance between a golfer and
greens and sand traps, and, most prominently, cell phones. GPS transponders also now track paroled
criminals, errant pets, migrating elephants and retreating glaciers./ppPositioning satellites have
been beaming signals for decades, but three converging factors are broadening the marketplace,
according to Per K. Enge, a professor of aeronautics and astronautics at Stanford University. The
size of the circuitry needed inside a receiver has shrunk. Circuit makers are selling that hardware
to consumer electronics manufacturers for less than $5 a unit. ldquo; And Apple provided
visibility, rdquo; Enge says, ldquo;by putting GPS into the iPhone.rdquo; Buyers loved it, proving
there was a desire./p a href=http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=how-gps-units-work[More]/a

Quote: While retaining the chipset mentioned above, Asus's new Eee Box B204 and B206 aim to lick
the HD problem via inclusion of discrete graphics circuitry and dedicated video memory. According
to the company, the devices now include ATI's Radeon HD 3400 GPU (graphics processor unit),
equipped with 256MB of DDR2 RAM, and claimed -- by ATI, at least -- to support 1080p (1920 x 1280
pixels). The new Eee Boxes also sport HDMI ports, for direct A/V connection to HD television sets.
