Le C510 de Sony Ericsson, aussi connu sous le nom de code “Kate” pourrait donc être disponible dès le mois de février 2009. Un léger retard donc pour un mobile prévu à la base pour le mois d’octobre 2008… Quoiqu’il en soit, il pourrait donc être annoncé au Mobile World Congress et être disponible peu de temps après. En février donc.

A côté de ça, deux nouveaux modèles pourraient avoir filtrées chez Sony Ericsson. Le “Flippa” tout d’abord, une sorte de C510 un peu plus évolué, embarquant un capteur 5 megapixels ainsi qu’un flash Xenon et le “Frances”, un slider qui pourrait embarquer un GPS…

While we wait (not too long) to debrief an exhausted Rafe after Nokia World, MIR's Paul Miller has done a good job of getting his hands-on thoughts on the new Nokia N97 down in print. Some interesting points (and also in the comments), even if he doesn't approach the device as an existing S60 fan. My own take is that yes, it's incredibly early in the N97's development cycle - for something 6 months from availability, it's actually looking quite stable and fast - look where the Sony Ericsson X1 was 6 months from its release...

Sony Ericsson n’est pas vraiment réputé pour ses smartphones et PDAPhones, le constructeur se faisant rare dans ce domaine. Le Xperia X1 est le modèle de l’année 2008 pour le constructeur et il risque de faire parler de lui.

Déjà car il tourne sous Windows Mobile, ce qui est une première mais aussi car il s’annonce très réussi. Ce mobile quadribande/3G/HSDPA est équipé équipé d’un clavier Azerty mécanique coulissant et d’un écran tactile de 3 pouces en 65 000 couleurs et surtout avec une résolution WVGA (800 x480 pixels). Il possède également un APN de 3.2MP, le Wi-fi et le Bluetooth 2.0 avec A2DP, un GPS avec fonction A-GPS, un tuner FM. Côté mémoire, il faut se contenter de 400Mo extensible via un slot microSD. Il pèse 145g.

Pour pallier à la médiocre interface graphique de Windows Mobile 6.1, le constructeur a ajouté sa propre surcouche graphique à l’image de ce que fait HTC avec sa gamme Touch.

"Well folks, it's finally here: the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a. That's the US version with 3G HSDPA on the US AT&T bands. The Xperia is sold in the US at SonyStyle stores in silver and at Best Buy stores in black (Fry's, J&R and other retailers also offer the silver version). Don't confuse the Xperia X1a with the overseas version Xperia X1i (no "a" for America) that lacks all of AT&T's 3G bands."

Read on, US and Canada readers, if you're trying to decide whether to pick one up from a Sony store. I'll leave the details of the conclusion to the article, but in short, the author really likes this device. I guess Nokia isn’t wasting anytime in catching with the latest touchscreen craze of today. Even if the 5800 XPressMusic phone hasn’t even reached the global market yet, the company has just announced their new flagship model, the N97. Ironically, it replaces the just recently released N96. The N97 comes with a 3.5-inch 640×360 resistive touchscreen with tactile feedback, a slide-out QWERTY keypad, 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and flash, DVD-quality recording at 30fps, HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 32GB internal memory and support for additional storage of up to 16GB via microSD card.

With its combination of a touchscreen display and QWERTY keypad, this proves that the early speculation that a Nokia Communicator phone is next in line after the 5800 is indeed true. Likewise, the N97 also looks to be directly competing with Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X1 due to their similarities.

The N97 is scheduled to ship in the first half of 2009 with a €550 (roughly $693) price tag attached to it (excluding taxes and subsidies). So, still aching to get a 5800 XpressMusic phone? I know I’m not.
