Meebo has disclosed that
11 more sites have committed themselves to integrating Community IM,
its forthcoming out-of-the-box service that adds Facebook
Chat-like instant messaging capabilities to the bottom of any website.
The newest enlistements include Bleacher Report, Dhingana, Fanpop, GlobalGrind, IBeatYou,
OrangeShark, PerfSpot, UGAME.net, Yaari, Zinch, and Zorpia. These join a set of previously
announced partners that includes DanceJam, Flixster, myYearbook, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family
Group’s AddictingGames, Piczo, SparkArt, Sugar Publishing and Tagged. That’s a grand
total of 19 companies that believe instant messaging within the browser will make their sites
stickier.
Meebo is touting these partners as collectively providing the service with over 70 million new
users. Obviously, that’s stretching the truth a bit. None of the integrations has launched
yet (the first will be Flixster, probably within the next few weeks) and even when all of them do
launch, only a small fraction of their visitors can be expected to use Community IM.

iAnalytical chemistry, Vol. 80, No. 2. (15 January 2008), pp. 421-429./ibr /br /A multiple
ionization mass spectrometry strategy is presented based on the analysis of human serum extracts.
Chromatographic separation was interfaced inline with the atmospheric pressure ionization
techniques electrospray ionization (ESI) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) in
both positive (+) and negative (-) ionization modes. Furthermore, surface-based matrix-assisted
laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) and desorption ionization on silicon (DIOS) mass spectrometry
were also integrated with the separation through fraction collection and offline mass spectrometry.
Processing of raw data using the XCMS software resulted in time-aligned ion features, which are
defined as a unique m/z at a unique retention time. The ion feature lists obtained through LC-MS
with ESI and APCI interfaces in both +/- ionization modes were compared, and unique ion tables were
generated. Nonredundant, unique ion features, were defined as mass numbers for which no mass
numbers corresponding to [M + H](+), [M - H](-), or [M + Na](+) were observed in the other
ionization methods at the same retention time. Analysis of the extracted serum using ESI for both
(+) and (-) ions resulted in >90% additional unique ions being detected in the (-) ESI mode.
Complementing the ESI analysis with APCI resulted in an additional approximately 20% increase in
unique ions. Finally, ESI/APCI ionization was combined with fraction collection and offline-MALDI
and DIOS mass spectrometry. The parts of the total ion current chromatograms in the LC-MS acquired
data corresponding to collected fractions were summed, and m/z lists were compiled and compared to
the m/z lists obtained from the DIOS/MALDI spectra. It was observed that, for each fraction, DIOS
accounted for approximately 50% of the unique ions detected. These results suggest that true global
metabolomics will require multiple ionization technologies to address the inherent metabolite
diversity and therefore the complexity in and of metabolomics studies.
Today, Wix announced that it
raised a $3.5 million series B round From Mangrove Capital Partners and Bessemer Venture
Partners. The Israeli startup offers a Web-based Flash editor for making artful widgets and
Websites, but without losing any
SEO juice. (I’ve embedded two examples below).
The service has been showing some healthy growth since it launched
in public beta last June. Co-CEO Allon Bloch tells me that Wix just crossed the 200,000-user
mark, and is adding between 2,000 and 3,000 a day. These users are creating 2,000 new Web pages
and widgets every day (the split is about 75/25 in favor of full-blown Web pages on MySpace and
elsewhere).
In September, says Bloch, Wix content across the Web generated 20 million pageviews, up from 13
million in August. (Only a small fraction of that was on Wix.com itself). The U.S. makes up 50
percent of traffic. After that, the biggest countries for Wix are France, the UK, Brazil, and
Canada.
Boch has a simple business plan: charge $5 to $10 a month for premium features that appeal to
businesses and designers such as removing the Wix logo and letting them connect the Web pages to
their domains.

full $12.95 package; as of last week, XM subscribers can add the show, which hasn't changed all
that much by most accounts, for $4. /p p What has changed? The LAT says the quality of Stern's
guests: "With a reduced audience, Stern's show is no longer a prime stop on the major film
promotion circuit. And the A-list guests who used to submit to Stern's biting personal questions in
order to hype their projects have become scarce." He's also missing the sense of controversy
stirred up by the fights with the FCC. /p p Stern is under contract to Sirius through 2010. Would
he switch back? Maybe, but as talk-radio host Tom Leykis told the paper: "Even if he does have a
