My iBook charger has stopped working, the iBook is well out of warranty by now, and i cant find any
replacement chargers for it. Instead of just buying another one, will apple replace my current one?
It was sparking on the cable that plugs into the computer and it looks like its been burnt, which
is probobly why it doesn't work anymore, is this a defect with apples chargers and will they
replace it even though my iBook is out of warranty?

Hello,
I just bought a 20" flatscreen iMac from ebay (the sunflower). It comes with 256 megs of RAM, in
one factory-installed slot (DIMM), and another empty user-accessible slot (SO-DIMM).
The Apple support site says it comes with:
"256MB of PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM expandable to 1GB; one 184-pin DIMM and one open
user-accessible SO-DIMM slot"
I want to upgrade the RAM as much as possible. Searching online, it looks like I can "unofficially"
upgrade it to 2gb with no problems. But how can I do that? Crucial.com only sells 256 meg and 512
meg chips, making it impossible to even hit the 1 gig mark if the factory-installed slot isn't
easily accessible (and it doesn't look like it is: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/i...takeapart.html)
Can I get it to 2 gigs? Or even 1 gig, 256 megs?
How much can I put in, and what do I have to buy? Thanks so much for the help.

ChocoFlop 0.88 ChocoFlop: Image and Photo Editing Application for Mac OS X.
ChocoFlop clearly positions itself as a lightweight alternative to very expensive graphics tools
such as Adobe PhotoShop, (ex. MetaCreations) Corel Painter. It is meant to be smaller and much
cheaper. Ideally the target users would be web or mobile designers and other creative people
working with reasonably sized images.
Unlike many "Core Image Demonstration" type tools, ChocoFlop is meant to be usable in everyday
work. The goal is not just to add as many filters to an image as possible and see what random
results one can achieve. I expect users to know what they want to be doing. Real-Time preview and
non-destructive Effect layers will be available as required but they won't be the goal. This
means people who have spent time learning industry standard tools will feel right at home when
working with layers, layer masks, selections and painting tools.
This is and will probably remain a Mac Only tool. It uses Core Image at its heart to be able to
utilize to its maximum the hardware. Thanks to great work of the guys at Apple I'll be able to
focus on usability and not much about optimizing gaussian blur filters and such things. Thanks to
the work that's already been done this project's development time will be much shorter than if I
had to start from scratch. That said, this makes the app very dependant of the operating system.
WHAT'S NEWVersion 0.88: Changes:
- Downscaling implemented at all levels. This means you can paint on a 10 mbpix image at screen
resolution (rather fast) and have it render at full resolution upon mouse release.
- Filters on large images will preview much faster too.
- Double clickable license files
- You can type math expression in the inspector (ex. 150+32px will replace the value with
182px).
- Low resolution version of image is used for faster zoom display (not perfect yet though
because downscaling can be slow on large images)
- All documents modifications are done within a single thread (instead of several per doc).
Increasing stability.
- Overlaid progress of operations now works correctly (one dedicated global thread)
- Selection marching ants now uses a coreImage kernel as opposed to open gl (much faster with
large selections)
- Finding bounds is now done with a dedicated coreimage kernel
- Faster Text and PDF layers updates
- Fixes opening certain rotated PDFs
- Enhanced color picker display
- Filters scale correctly (incluiding their parameters)
And many many many bugfixes. There are still a few issues left though regarding large images.
Such as the fact that starting to draw a lasso selection can still be slow on a big image because
the whole image is dumped each time. The same problem affects the start of color picking. This will
likely be fixed in an upcoming release.
REQUIREMENTS1 GHz G4 or better, Mac OS X 10.4 or later, Growl installed.

So I bought the above referrenced wireless printer. Although it prints beautifully when connected
via USB (from both a desktop and laptop) I somehow botched up the wireless set up and can't figure
out how to make it work. Please help.
What I did:
1. Inserted CD
2. Chose HL-2170W
3. Chose English
4. Chose to install printer driver
5. Chose wireless network users
6. Chose "recommended" install
7. Chose "step by step install"
8. Chose "with cable (and attached cable)"
A new window popped up asking me to connect my device and access point and I did so. I then clicked
next. It then searched for my device and I received an error -- says it cannot find my device and
prompts me to correctly configure my computer and wireless devide according to the quick setup
guide.
That's pretty much where I get stuck. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have the wireless modem
connected to the printer and connected to a desktop computer and I am trying to make a wireless
connection to my powerbook G4.
And please don't refer me to the brother website because that had me running in circles for nearly
4 hours.
Thanks!

I have been checking this forum for quite a while, and here is my first post...
I currently use an ibook G4 (1.33 ghz, 1gb ram, 40g harddrive) and am sort of wanting to upgrade my
system mostly because I am running out of HD space. I have been looking at the new aluminum
macbook, but all the rev A glitches made me decide to wait until rev B. So, I have been looking for
a G4 12", which I have really wanted to own. I take my laptop to work everyday, and it will be a
good secondary computer in the future. Also, powerbook's supporting a second display is a big plus,
as I am planning to watch TV after they switch from analog to digital. I did check some authorized
resellers for used 12" inchers, but they were expensive. Then I happened to find one on
craigslist...
The guy is selling his 12" G4. It's 1.5 ghz, 1.25 ram, 60gb harddrive with combo drive. 1 extra
battery. No applecare (of course). Comes with all the original accessories, including OS discs and
the box. Asking price is $650 OBO.
I exchanged e-mails with his twice. Apparently he is a local guy using a hotmail account. I did ask
for the serial number and he did give it to me. I checked appleserialnumber.com, and found it was
made in 2005. He also said the machine has never had any mechanical issues and is in very good
condition cosmetically.
I have been selling/buying through ebay, but never used craigslist, nor buying a computer from a
private seller.
1) Anything I have to be careful about for buying a computer off craigslist?
2) Do you think the deal is legit? Is this a good price for an used powerbook G4 12"? I know it
still is a popular model, but knowing i can get a brand-new (white) macbook for $900 or so, $650
sounds a little expensive.
Sorry for the lengthy post. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lightsoft Weather Center 1.1
Lightsoft Weather Center (LWC) is weather station software for the Davis Vantage
and WS-2300 series of hardware weather stations.
As data is gathered and stored in its database LWC allows you to view weather statistics such as
the lowest temperature, or the highest wind speed over any time period stored in the database. In
addition LWC contains a journal for weather notes and can generate web pages containing current
conditions, graphs, statistics and a web-cam image. LWC can upload these web pages to your server
for display via a web browser anywhere in the world.
LWC also monitors the weather and can run a set of pre-defined and user programmed alerts that
can trigger emails, send SMS messages to your mobile phone and/or run scripts should an alert
trigger.
Lightsoft Weather Center offers the following main features:
- Integration with Davis Vantage, Monitor and Wizard stations along with the La Crosse WS 23xx
range of weather stations.
- Can upload to Wunderground Personal Weather Station pages
- CWOP upload - user programmable server list, ports and upload time (with random variation).
- Custom web page processing - takes your web pages, replaces weather tags with current data,
graphs, dials, web-cam imagery and FTP to your web server
- Custom CGI driver - can drive a CGI on your web server with current weather data in close to
real time. Simple example php scripts included.
- A local network client can display weather station gauges on any machine on your local
network.
- Can record data for two other locations via data obtained from: weather.com, wunderground,
NOAA or METAR.
- Continuous and unlimited recording, monitoring and analysis of weather data for up to three
locations.
- Provides graphs of temperature, dew point, wind chill, wind speed, wind direction,
precipitation, cloud base, internal temperature, internal humidity and barometric pressure.
- Can graph and display conditions for any date in the database; dates can be entered using
natural language; for example 'last wednesday'. Graph scales range from 1 to 56 days.
- Continuous statistics calculation and display.
- Continuous database timeline maintenance; if LWC misses samples, data is interpolated between
last know good sample and the latest.
- Database query facility; for example querying the total rainfaill over a given date range.
- A journal, linked to the database for recording your own weather notes.
- Web page generation and upload to web server of current conditions, graphs, web cam image,
statistics and journal.
- Export of data from any date range within the database.
- Additional sources of weather data for comparison purposes or keeping an eye on other
locations include weather.com, The Weather Underground, The Weather Underground Personal Weather
Pages, METAR and NOAA. Backup sources can be specified.
- Three pre-programmed alerts; ice, rain and clear sky.
- Unlimited number of user programmed alerts.
- LWC can send email, SMS message (via modem) and run scripts when an alert is triggered.
- In-built test system for custom alerts.
- Independent units for each of the six main data types.
- The current weather can be spoken.
- Daily data email; sends tab-delimited data email for any or all locations.
- LWC can collect, display and animate satellite imagery.
- Weather records can be notified via email.
- Can record and upload webcam images and time-lapse movies via QuickTime compatible camera.
WHAT'S NEWVersion 1.1:
- Added German and Italian localizations.
- Added web tags for sunrise and sunset times.
- Reduced the latency of alerts to a few seconds.
- Added the option to send local time for custom CGI's
- Additional bug fixes and feature enhancements. For a full list please see

So, I am dog/housesitting for my inlaws. Yesterday, before I left my house I shut down my iMac as
always and for the heck of it, unplugged the computer, modem, and router stopped home today, and
decided to hop on the computer real quick. plugged everything back in and the computer will NOT
turn on. No noise, no lights, nothing. It was fine yesterday--I shut it down, unplugged it, and
plugged it back in today---now it is completely dead! So I tried other plugs and no dice. Never had
any power or shutdown/starup issue before. I called Mac---but outside of driving an hour to the
Apple store--it wasn't much help. The guy did say it was most likely the cord. I would be wiling to
try that--as it would be a cheap option, but it looks like I may have to drive to the Apple store
anyway to get a cord that fits. I also tried resetting the PMU that Apples site recommends--and
nothing. Any suggestion would be great. With the holidays the thought of dropping big $$$ on
computer repairs is not appealing. THANKS!
