I occasionally have the screen whine while in Xp Pro on my MPB early '08, but regardless of that
fact, I would love to install some new drivers for it. I downloaded the latest for my model from
Nvidia's website, but when ever I open it I get the Nvidia background, then an error message that
says "Setup couldn't find any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware" or something
very close to that.
I have heard of many Boot camp users installing these drivers with success. Whats my issue? Can you
guys also send me the proper link for the drivers just in case I got the wrong ones?
Macbook Pro 10.5.5 Penryn GeForce 8600 Gt 256 MB VRAM. Running XP Professional SP3 on a NTFS 31 GB
partition with about 28 GB free.
Thanks!

We got into some debate on the nature of TWIMTBP program in the General Radeon Discussion thread
about FC2 driver issues.
I decided to just ask what is involved with NVIDIA's developer relations program, and got this
answer:
Quote: 1. we examine the game engine and the developers and publishers objectives and suggest
features that will look good and which will be fun, these are suggestions only, they are usually
accepted where they make sense and are cost effective.
2. we provide details of what we have shipped and where so that the publisher/developers can see
the installed base to judge whether enough people can enjoy the implemented features
3. we provide a wide range of tools to implement features include FXcomposer, texture tools, shader
debugger, etc and then optimize them for performance such as PerfHUD, AGPerfMon, etc, see here;
http://developer.nvidia.com/page/home.html
4. we provide technical support all thru this process both remote and on-site
5. we test the builds of the game at our Moscow labs, called GTL and provide documented feedback on
bugs, perf and compatibility
6. we then promote games that have great features for GeForce owners to our Club SLI members,
newsletter subscribers, and nzone.com visitors
7. we work with our AIC partners and OEM customers to also promote these games too

Hi guys - I'm a noob at this. Friend gave me the idea of installing OS X on my Intel rig, so I
downloaded iDeneb 10.5.5. System specs are:
Dell Inspiron 530
Intel Q6600 (2.4Ghz Quad, 8MB L2 cache)
7 gig 5300U DDR2 (667)
2x500gb
standard DVD/RW drive
nVidia GeForce 9600GT w/ 512
So I get to the first screen where the Darwin bootloader is going... and it gives me an EBIOS read
error?
I'm lost... anyone have any advice?

I'm aware this topic must have been beaten to death, but allow me to ask some questions about
system optimization again, mainly re. Photoshop CS4 and Cinema 4D.
After doing quite some research and getting great advise on this fine forum, I have now put
together this system :
- Mac Pro 2.8 Ghz Dual, 12 GB Ram , GeForce 8800GT
- Main drive Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB (system, applications, files), using less than
200GB, big files go into external archives
- Stock drive Western Digital 320GB (SE16 ?) used for Bootcamp partition (XP) and Photoshop scratch
disc ( 111GB partition )
- External 1TB drive/ FW 800 with Samsung Spinpoint F1/ 1TB for Time Machine
- A bunch of external harddrives for archiving large files and bootable system backups
- Two ACDs , 23" and 20", connected to the GeForce 8800
As for performance, my questions are only about two apps really, Photoshop CS4 in general, and C4D
rendering, working with highres image files (200-500MB, lots of layers) and highres C4D renders
with GI and complex materials. I have googled my behind off, but still am not a lot wiser...
1) Will I see performance gains if I run my Photoshop files off a seperate internal drive
(recommendations ?), instead of having them on the system/application drive, and might that affect
C4D renders as well ?
2) Given the 12GB Ram I have, should I worry about a more efficient PS scratch disc setup ?
Recommendations ?
3) Cinema 4D : OpenGL previews in the editor window are working, but way too sluggish. If I ran my
second display off a seperate graphic card, would that make a great difference ?
4) Where would a Raid0 configuration of two drives really improve performance, regarding the needs
mentioned above, and how important is HDD speed ?
5) Anything else you can recommend ?
Cheers !

Following on from the release of their first "GeForce Power Pack" back in August, NVIDIA are at it again, launching another bundle of the latest
demos and applications that show off the CUDA and PhysX capabilities of their range of graphics
boards. Having already examined the CUDA side of this equation in recent weeks, Elite Bastards
have instead chosen to use the release of the GeForce Power Pack 2 as an opportunity to take a
second look a GPU-based PhysX processing, in light of both advances introduced via the latest
GeForce 180 series drivers as well as the opportunity for some additional testing thanks to some
elements included within this pack.
That leaves us with some more PhysX related investigation and discussion, and to be honest it
couldn't be a better time to re-evaluate this particular functionality. For starters, we now have a
brand-spanking new Core i7 setup, which gives us a more powerful CPU to put up against any
GPU-based physics acceleration. Then there's the recent WHQL release of NVIDIA's GeForce 180 series
drivers, which includes the ability to move all PhysX processing to a second discrete GPU (which
doesn't need to be configured via SLI, meaning it can be used on any motherboard with two PCI
Express 16x slots), leaving your primary graphics board free to perform normal 3D rendering.
With this in mind, we'll be making use of the contents of both GeForce Power Packs to check out the
state of PhysX acceleration with NVIDIA's GeForce 180 series drivers, using both a GeForce GTX 260
graphics board in isolation, as well as paired with a slower (but more than capable for PhysX
processing alone) GeForce 9600 GSO to run PhysX processing while the GeForce GTX 260 handles 3D
rendering. Read on to see how these combinations fare when coupled with our Intel Core i7 940
system.

My brother in law is trying to decide between these two MBP's from macmall. Is it worth it for him
to go with the Penryn model, or just save the extra cash? I know he doesn't care about multi touch.
But, is there a difference in speed or battery life between the two? Also, did they make any
changes to the display between these two models? I know the resolution did not change, more
referring to a brighter, different manufacturer kind of thing, etc...
Thanks everyone!

"One feature present in FarCry 2 we did not talk about is the inclusion of some DirectX 10.1 coding
to improve antialiasing performance. Now, of course only the latest AMD Radeon HD 4000 series GPUs
support DX 10.1, NVIDIA GPUs do not. However, NVIDIA GPUs, like any current generation GPU, are
very programmable and there is a way to exploit DX 10.1 like features out of the GPU if coded
specifically for it. This is the case in FarCry 2 for NVIDIA GPUs (read GTX 200 series.) This
excerpt comes from NVIDIA documentation on FarCry 2 features:
FarCry 2 reads from a multisampled depth buffer to speed up antialiasing performance. This feature
is fully implemented on GeForce GPUs via NVAPI. Radeon GPUs implement an equivalent path via
DirectX 10.1. There is no image quality or performance difference between the two
implementations.
This statement implies that the DX 10.1 implementation and the NVAPI implementation produce the
same result, and that is to speed up multisampling performance under DX10. We will test
antialiasing performance differences in this evaluation."
