I tried to set up boot camp on my macbook, but when I tried setting up windows xp, I only get a
single c: partition that encompasses my entire hard disk.
I looked at the topics on this site, but couldn't find any solutions that worked. I was wondering
if it was possible that the cd I'm using is too old to use. In that case, would it still work? Or
would the mac refuse to start the setup of windows?

We here at Mashable have shared with you a number of feature stories on how to extend your
Firefox 3 experience. From must-have add-ons to social applications to
gems that’ll help you communicate most
effectively with friends, family, co-workers and so forth. Today there comes another set of
top-tier add-ons picked from the growing goodie bag in the Firefox marketplace. This time,
though, the chosen few have been selected by a group of six judges commissioned by Mozilla as
part of a contest it has called Extend Firefox 3, sponsored by ActiveState, Last.fm, and VMWare.
From a pool of over 100 entries, just seven were chosen as grand prize winners in a series of three categories: Best New Add-on; Best
Updated Add-on; Best Music Add-on. For both the Best New and Best Updated picks they decided on
three first-place finishers each. The extensions left standing are as follows:
BEST NEW ADD-ON
Pencil - GUI prototyping and diagramming, making use of “SVG
support in Firefox 3 to implement all the shape rendering and scripting.”
Tagmarks - One-click bookmark tagging.
HandyTag - Automatic bookmark tagging.
BEST UPDATED ADD-ON
Read it
Later - Save interesting pages for future reading.
TagSifter - Browse bookmarks by tag.
Bookmark
Previews - Adds album and thumbnail views to bookmark manager.
BEST MUSIC ADD-ON
Fire.fm - Access to Last.fm. ‘Nuff said.
Winners of the Best New category receive free travel and accommodation to a Mozilla Developer Day
of their choosing, anywhere one might be held. They also net some cool gear and software, too.
Winners of the Best Updated category get to stay where they are, but grab a new Macbook Pro. The
Fire.fm guys, Jorge Villalobos and Jose Enrique Bolaños, get to travel to Last.fm HQ in
London and attend a Last.fm Presents show.
Just so we’re thorough, the judges deemed six runners up in the category
of Best New, and we would be remiss not to relay the names. Without further adieu:
Webchunks - implementation of Internet Explorer Webslices, “plus more!”
Badges on
Favicons - information badges to those nifty graphics we know and love.
Devo -
the band is no more, but this command launcher is very much alive and kicking.
Close
‘n Forget - close tab and forget the visit. For those wild nights
in Virtual Vegas, perhaps.
Callout - notification services of the OS for webpages and
Greasemonkey scripts.
Reasy - RSVP reader.
It should be said that Extend Firefox 3 is not the inaugural developer add-on celebration.
Extend Firefox 2,
which officially opened its doors in 2007 and finished in early 2008, was something of a
spectacle as well. At that time, Minimap Sidebar, SamePlace, and Shareaholic all took home the
gold.

Hello,
I have searched the macforums and while i have found an abundance of similar questions RE: Airport
dropping wireless internet, most of them seem to concern macbooks or macbook pros
This is my problem,
I have a 20inch 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac using wireless internet via a Linksys WRT150N router
and the internet, more often than not, never works properly.
This is a regular pattern of what happens with my internet:
1) I will be on the internet, it will be working alright though not optimally (ie: there will be
full bars but the internet is so slow, or it will keep fluctuating between one bar to 3, to 4, and
back to 1) Sometimes the internet will (briefly) work well and then it will revert to being slow
and inconsistent
2) After being connected for about 10, 15, or 30 minute intervals (give or take) airport will
randomly drop the connection even though my network is still listed in the drop-down list. Some
days it will drop connection every few minutes which is insanely frustrating.
3) After re-selecting my network/attempting to reconnect it will take minutes before i am able to
use the internet again (in System Preferences > Network > under airport it will say 'unable
to connect' or ' airport has a self-assigned ip and may not be able to connect') ie: airport will
have a red or amber coloured light for 2-5 minutes before it finally turns green and is
connected.
4) I am now back on the internet, connected, and with a decent (or slow) connection then the
pattern starts over again: either internet becomes slow or is dropped completely.
My router is on a different level of the house than my imac (and i know people say interference may
be an issue here) however, i use my ipod touch sitting at my imac desk (or within the same room)
and have flawless connection - incredibly fast loading speed and the connection rarely drops (it
may drop if ipod goes to stand-by and i turn it on again, or if i am looking at one site for a long
time and then go to open a new page) the ipod touch also connects to the internet much faster than
my imac
Im sorry for writing so much, I am just trying to be as specific as possible in order to get the
most accurate advice and responses.
Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Initially, I wanted a Mac Pro then I downgrade to a MacBook... and now I am thinking of an iMac.
:p
I am not willing to spent more than 1700.
Considering my situation/preferences/usage, what should I get? Help!
1. Web browsing
2. Music
3. Movies
4. Words(whatever else relates to school; no heavy graphics necessary; I am a biologist)
5. Photography (photo editing)
6. Refurbished or New ?
Do I take my laptop everywhere I go? Probably not. When I was living on campus I do take my Sony
laptop with me to the library a lot. It's basically for writing papers. That's about the only time
I take my laptop out of my room.
Few questions about the iMac, I am thinking of the 24" with 2gb memory.
Q1: Can I upgrade (install) more memory later on my own?
Q2: What is the estimated life span of an iMac, considering I will be using it very conservatively
meaning I will use it with cautious?
Q3: My work place is having an Apple closeout, so the 24" is being discounted to 1300 (however no
free ipod touch nor printer). What should I go for? Through Apple store or through my work place?

Hi,
Sorry this question is so specific but I'm hoping someone has the same problem. I've got a Macbook
Pro with OSX latest. When I try and watch BBC Flash Video over wireless the combination of BBC,
Macbook and BE Internet router seems to crash the router. It reboots and the internet comes back
fine. Other flash based video sites are fine and downloading large files isn't a problem.
Very confused.

I'm thinking of investing in buying a Mac Mini to: rip DVD's, convert things in VisualHub, record
TV shows with EyeTV etc.
However, the whole aim is to completely control it remotely from my MacBook Pro. Whether it be on
the home network, or on the internet.
The idea is so I can download a TV show that I've missed, convert it in VisualHub, and have it
ready for my Apple TV without me being there. I'm getting sick of the amount of heat and noise
generated by my MacBook Pro for converting things, and this way I can set the Mac Mini to record TV
shows when I'm out using my MacBook Pro.
What's the best way of doing all of this? I'm a MobileMe subscriber, so Back To My Mac will be
available.

I bought a Macbook Air with the intention of running XP or Vista on it occaisonally. I need to use
the IE and would use Bootcamp to load Windows.
I am totally new at this and I've done some research on this but can't find an answer for this.
Before I go out and spend a couple hundred on new software, I want to find out if I can use Vista
that came pre-loaded with my HP laptop. I don't have the CDs but they are saved on my laptop's hard
drive and I can burn a copy of it. Will this work?
Also does a bootleg copy of XP SP2 work with Bootcamp?
Are there any other options besides buying XP/Vista new or used?

I installed Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle earth successfully on my new macbook. When I try
to launch the game, it says to put the cd in, but the right one is already in. Fine, so I
downloaded the no dvd crack, but I don't know where to put it.
Help would be appreciated, it's my favorite pc game and i'd love for it to work on my macbook

I have 1gb of ram in my macbook as it currently stands, however, I've been looking to update it to
4g which is 100$. But me personally am not sure If i need that much, so i was thinking about just
ordering 2 gb which is 50$. I need help deciding. I am a big internet user, and multi-tasker. I
will have itunes, mail, ichat, and firefox open 90 percent of the time, while working on a
word/pages document. And I have an external monitor if that matters. So i've never dabbled in RAM
before So i'm asking you guys if you think I need 4 or 2 gigs of RAM, and yes my blackbook can hold
4gb. And thank you so much for your posts.

This is probably a stupid question that's been asked before (I couldn't find anything with a
search), and may even be in the wrong place, but hopefully you'll be lenient!
Anyway, I've got a usb pen drive with some files etc on that was formatted on my old windows
laptop, which then died. Well, there's a .pdf file on there that I could really do with: I was
wondering whether I'd be able to plug the usb drive into my macbook and get the .pdf off it?
Course, I could try, but I don't have either with me at work at the moment: if not, then I'll have
to try and find another way of getting the file.
Thanks in advance.

LaCie’s Portable DVD±RW with LightScribe, Design by Sam Hecht, is one product
where style and weight trumped speed and (to a certain extent) sturdiness. Even so, it’s the
portable DVD burner of choice for MacBook Air owners.

Hi folks,
I wanted to mirror my settings from Apple Mail on my MacBook to my iPhone, so that I am using
MobileMe (in order to have the push) but send mails from my own domain.
So, my IMAP setting will point to MobileMe, e.g. justin_case@me.com
I also added a second SMTP (which is my own server) through the preferences and made this one the
primary used. smtp.case.com, user justin@case.com, etc ...
My thought process told me, that now MobileMail should send a mail out via smtp.case.com, but it
doesn't. There is no log on in my /var/log/mail and a mail that gets sent out still shows
"justin_case@me.com" as sending adress...
Even deleting the smtp.me.com entry in the .plist file on the phone didn't help... So, has anyone
tried this before ? I feel like there's a bug in the MobileMail itself and how it handles the SMTP
settings....
Cheers
J*
