Here are some tips for getting the PHP a href=http://pecl.php.net/package/pecl_httppecl_http/a
extension running on a Macintosh OS X 10.5.x Leopard 64-bit Intel machine. For starters, you need
to follow the instructions in the PHP Documentation pages to install the PEAR/PECL manager, because
it is no longer in the standard OS X setup: ol liTo compile the extension, you have to install the
Developers (Xcode) from your system disks because they are not installed by default. This is a
simple step./li liIt's not made clear that you need to install an older version of ttpecl_http/tt
than the latest stable version (1.6.1 as of this writing), because 1.6.1 needs PHP6. I used version
1.5.6 successfully. So, your Terminal command has to be ttsudo pecl install pecl_http-1.5.6/tt./li
liThere is apparently a ttlibcurl/tt dependency in the case of ttpecl_http/tt (although no
dependencies are listed at the extension site), but it came with the excellent ...br style=clear:

Start apps intrigue me, and I'm still surprised how few I've come across to share - last month's
look at a
href="http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/10/24/mucommander-is-a-powerful-cross-platform-file-manager/"MuCommander/a
was the first. If you're interested in an FTP client or server, give a
href="http://www.crossftp.com/"CrossFTP/a a try.br /br /Both apps download and run in a flash. All
of the functions I need for most FTP chores are available in the free, basic version: upload,
download, site/connection manager, rename, delete, CHMOD. CrossFTP also remembers your browsing
history and supports favorites, which makes queueing bulk uploads a breeze.br /br /The server works
nicely, and can be set up with minimal fuss. It's extremely configurable and an easy way to quickly
provide FTP access to any system's files.br /br /As with MuCommander, memory usage is an issue: the
client consumes about 40mb and the server another 70mb. That's substantially more than FileZilla (
11mb / 5mb ).br /br /The pro version provides additional functionality, like support for SSL and
SFTP and the ability to move remote files instead of deleting and re-uploading.br /br /While I'm
not going to forsake a href="http://filezilla-project.org/"FileZilla/a for this one, it's a nice
app to bookmark just in case.p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid

1st Gen 24" Aluminum iMac running OSX Leopard 10.5
I've been getting random freezes for several months now, but only yesterday following a freeze, I
was met by a folder icon with a flashing question mark on startup. I tried booting to my Windows
partition, but no luck.
This morning I turned it on and it started up just fine! I began copying files to my external hard
drive, and within minutes, it froze again. I booted up to the Leopard install disc to use the Disc
Utility, but repeated attempts at Verify/Repair failed.
I immediately restarted holding Option to view available discs...and both my OSX and XP partitions
showed up. As soon as I tried clicking on Macintosh HD, the icon went "poof", just like an icon
being removed from the Dock. Same thing happened with the Windows icon.
Does it sound like my hard drive is going bad? I'm also willing to re-install Leopard if it might
help. Any ideas?

I didnt buy the MacBook to play games at all. But I couldn't help but notice that Call of Duty 4 is
made for Mac, and so is Spore right?
I was thinking of perhaps buying a game actually, but I need to know some things first.
When you buy a game for Mac, is that game just as the PC-experience is? Do you have to tweak the
settings in graphics etc til you get it just right, so the graphics looks good but also gives you a
stable framerate?
Or do they tailor the games a bit differently for Mac? Like, if you install it on the new MacBook,
the game detects it and sets its own graphic settings, which the developer has specially configured
for this MacBook model.
If not, and you have to adjust the games yourself, how well do Macintosh-made games perform? Can
you actually play them without getting a lag? Do they look as good as they do on their PC
equalents?
Anyone here who plays on their new MacBook aluminium and can share their experience?

i decided to start fresh on the xp partition so i deleted it (it was FAT32) then tried to make a
new one. bootcamp helper refused to make a partition so i ran disk utility verify disk and got
something like this....
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 631719 instead of 631720)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 156988 instead of 156987)
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
i couldn't run the "repair disk" option because it won't let me for some reason... i also ran the
permission verify/repair but i doubt that that had anything to do w/ partitioning.
my mac portion runs fine, but i still want to make an xp partition. solutions(preferably without
having to reinstall osx)?
thanks

LaCie Silverkeeper 2.0.1 LaCie SilverKeeper is a freeware application from LaCie that
automates Backups to external storage devices like hard disks optical disks, and other removable
storage devices that have IDE, ATAPI, SCSI, USB, or Firewire interfaces. Essentially any read/write
device that can mount on the Macintosh Desktop can be used with SilverKeeper.
WHAT'S NEWVersion 2.0.1:
- Re-implemented in X-Code for OS X. No longer uses CarbonLib. No longer compatible with OS 9.
- Compatible with Intel and PowerPC Macintosh computers.
- Compatible with OS X 10.3.9, 10.4.x, 10.5.x. For OS 9 users, v1.1.4 will still be available.
- SilverKeeper now can run in the dock or in the background.
- SilverKeeper can be minimized. We still recommend that you do not run other applications or
use your computer while backups are being performed. There is a preference setting to sound an
alert when the backup is complete.
- Setup wizard added to assist users with common setup tasks. User is prompted to create Backup
Sets for entire System, all users, logged-in user.
- Better support for network shares, drives, and network-attached storage (NAS and Ethernet
Disk). Sparse Disk Image can now be used as a Backup destination, in addition to normal volumes
mounted on the desktop. SilverKeeper will automatically mount disk images used as Backup
destinations.
- Bootable disk backups for OS X are limited to direct connect USB, FireWire, IDE/ATA or SATA
disk drive volumes and must be formatted as Mac OS Extended.
- The size of the log file has been increased; the max size can now be set by a preference
setting. The logs may be saved as text files; there are preferences to determine what information
is saved in the log files.
- A user preference optional setting is available to show backup throughput performance.
- Exclusion and Delete options can be set. Certain files/folders can be set to "never delete"
or to be excluded from a backup.
- Better file copying and permission management to reduce errors indicated by OS X. OS X errors
are from the operating system - these numerical values are detected by SilverKeeper, and reported
to the user. SilverKeeper errors are text based - a description is provided for errors within
SilverKeeper. An error threshold can be set to terminate backup if error limit is reached before
completion.
- Help menu expanded to include links to the built-in SilverKeeper Help; LaCie homepage;
SilverKeeper homepage; and email support link for SilverKeeper. SilverKeeper Help now available
as separate PDF document. The email link will automatically capture key information about your
setup to help troubleshoot your problem report.
