So I'm buying a used MacBook Pro 2.2GHz / 2GB / 120GB / 8600GT and wanted to know when I see the
guy (again) what to look for.
I met up with him Wednesday, and I looked it over, and everything seemed good, except a dent in the
back, but it wasn't that bad. Pictures can be seen here: http://detroit.craigslist.org/sys/942233835.html
Limited Warranty AppleCare ends Dec. 26th, so I'll buy it to extend it for 2 years.
The MBP has an Incase Black Plastic cover, so it covers and protects it. I will be removing it
before I buy to make sure it looks OK.
Battery health 85%. 2:30 time on an 80% charge.
I am picking it up tomorrow for $1100. It looked great, and well worth the cash. Reason its cheap
is he works at Apple, so he gets the 25% discount and wants to sell this to get the new MB 2.0GHz.
He said if he sold it at half what he paid, it'd get him enough.
He works at the Apple Store near me, so I know if I have an issue, where to find him. XD
In all, checked:
Battery
Performace
System Profiler
Keyboard Backlight
Speakers
Display
So, what should I look for that I didn't check?

I'm debating between this gen. or last gen. MBP for purchase, but this isn't about purchasing
advice!
I've looked everywhere, and see a lot of speculation, not not many definite answers, minus the
NVIDIA site that says a big fat "no". However, I don't know if that's because of hardware or
software ,and if Snow Leopard will change that.
In short, will Snow Leopard make use of having TWO GPUs? Or is the point of having two, solely for
battery life?

Ok so I sold my MBP and I'm looking at either a MB or MBA rev b. - I sold the MBP bc I didn't need
all the power and wanted more portability and an SSD drive. Now that the MB dropped to 4.5 pounds,
i'm torn. I really want the MBA but I have a couple concerns.
1) did they not solve the heat issue and is it much hotter still even with an SSD then the MB?
2) I hear some complaints about videos (youtube or vidoes from itunes) jumping or freezing. Has
this been resolved? the most intense video software I will use is iMovie. Will this be an issue
with the rev. B?
3) Is 2gigs enough? I don't plan on using fusion but if I do will this be enough. Also, I want this
to last at least 2 years. Can 2gigs survive?
4) any other issues I should be concerned about over the MB?
5) AND do you recommend an SSD air or MB with 4gigs and me upgrading to SSD for my needs? (itunes,
basic use, iMovie, iphoto)
Thank you very much,
NYU02

I have a 10gb hard drive off the original iBook that had to be replaced. I'm wondering if I can buy
an enclosure (or some other setup) in order to transfer the data to my new MBP. Also any advice to
retrieve the data off of a failing drive would be appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, so I got my ATV a couple of months ago and right now I have it streaming from my MacPro's
iTunes library and synced with my MBP iTunes. Its disapointing the limitations that this things has
out of the box, so I started looking for ways to enhance it on forums and websites. Found out about
boxee, and other popular hacks. I am not very handy when it comes to modifying codes or stuff like,
so I am looking for something easy to install.
I came across this website:
http://www.atvflash.com/
Then sell you (for $50 bucks) an installer to put on a flash drive to then install on the ATV it
does look very easy to do. They claim that it will allow you to play diferent video in different
formats like DivX, Xvid, AVI, WMV, RMVB and more. Not only that but it comes with software like
boxee, couch surfer and a handfull of codecs. You can play DVD files without making self contained
movies and more stuff that you can see on the link above.
So my question is.... Is this worth the $50 bucks? Has anyone used this before? if so how do like
it?
and also what happens when there's a software update from apple??
Thank you for you input, and if there's something better than this out there please let me know!

I have decided to buy my first-ever Apple laptop.....the new 15.4" Macbook Pro. I don't know if to
buy from the local Apple store or on line. Buying online is much cheaper but I am scared I will get
a refurbished or damaged product. I would really appreciate if anybody out there can advise me on
their experiences.
Online companies like MacMall, ClubMac, Macconnection, Pcconnection are offering the MBP much
cheaper than the Apple store or Apple online. But are they really selling brand new products
straight from the factory?? I don't know and I am at a loss of what to do.....
Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

OK, I got my replacement MBP in the mail and I did a migration from a Time Machine back-up.
Now when I try to access the 'movies' folder, it's gone.
The text in the dialog says: 'The volume for Movies is missing' (in Dutch)
And as you can see in the second screenshot, the Movies folder is missing from the Home screen (and
so is the Public folder)
Reason why:
When I make back-ups, I exclude the Movies (because I have my movies stored on an external drive)
and Public (because there are nothing but duplicates in there) folders from the back-up.
Now I recovered my Mac from these back-ups and now it thinks there are no such folders, while they
should just be empty.
Worth noting: I also excluse 'Desktop' and 'Downloads' from my back-ups, but I can access both just
fine.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Looking for suggestions of a free, or cheap program I could use to digitize a few old tapes.
Essentially, it has to be something like WinDOS Sound Recorder. I want to plug my old Walkman into
the line-in on my MBP, hit "record", and produce an MP3 or an MP4 file. I do not really need any
frills like noise reduction, track detection, etc.
My tapes are primarily audiobooks.

Hello,
I have a new 15" MBP Aluminum. It's the 2.53 GHz with a 320GB 7200 HD.
I don't seem to be getting very good battery life. I just unplugged the power cord and it estimates
2:50. I only have Safari and Mail running. I am connected over WiFi and Bluetooth is turned on. The
screen brightness is at the lowest setting. I am running in Power Saver mode with the lower powered
video card. I conditioned my battery when I first got it.
Here is what iStat provides:
Cycles 8
Health 100%
99%, 2:50 remaining.
Here is the Power information from the System Profiler.
Model Information:
Serial Number: SMP-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx
Manufacturer: SMP
Device name: bq20z951
Pack Lot Code: 0000
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 002a
Hardware Revision: 000a
Cell Revision: 0100
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 4282
Fully charged: No
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4643
Health Information:
Cycle count: 8
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1571
Voltage (mV): 12094
The other day, I unplugged the MBP and took it to work. I only turned it on when I was teaching. I
used the mini adapter to connect the MBP to the projector. After I taught, I closed the lid and
when I got home the power was down to 10%.!! So I was only able to get about 1.5 hours out of it
for the day. The screen was on full brightness when I was teaching however.
Are other getting less than 3hrs battery life? Does this sound about right? Any suggestions?
Cheers.

Hello All,
I am not the only coming on this site only for help. I have other posts too. But this time I really
need soem guidance.
My MBp started making fan humming noise and Apple was good enough to send me a new one. I have both
in front of me. The old one has LG screen and the ne wone has Chi Mei (9c95). I hate the dullness
of this screen as compared to LG.
Last night I made my old MBPs fans run at 6000 rpm for 3 hours and the fan noise is not reduce. It
is so low that I will only hear if I put my ear towards it.
Should I keep my old one and return back the new one, because I like the screen and audio quality
of old one better. If the fan noise is a concern, then I will send that back and use the new one. I
will feel very sorry though to have a dull screen.
I am positive that the noise is from fan, because it is coming from left side under the keyboard,
and the frequescy increases with increase in speed. I can always get the fans changed if they get
worst in time. But I am just concerned if I keep my old MBP will my CPU actually overheat as
compared to the new one and do so other bad things?
I know some of you know how the hardware is assembled. The fan noise might just be a brearing issue
or somethnig is getting stuck or the fan actually is not rotating at the set speed.
Please advise.

I recently acquired some Shure EC210 headphones. I use to have some Shure E2C headphones but I
upgraded. I really love them they really bring some nice sound isolation and great sound quality.
They really bring more life to my music.
The thing is I noticed my music sounds a lot better coming from my 5G iPod then the music coming
from my Macbook Pro. Is this normal? I know MP3's are naturally less quality due to compression but
even so I would assume my MBP would have a better audio device than my iPod. Maybe it has to do
with the mixer? I'm no audiophile so its hard to for me to tell (but I do know what sounds good :)
)
The songs I'm testing are either 192kbs or 320kbs. The music is just a lot more clear and more
full. I can easily distinguish the individual instruments and beats on my iPod. I can too on my MBP
but its just not as nice.
Any thoughtst?

A couple of weeks I asked from the wonderful guys over here if I should get the MBA since I already
have a MBP.
cause I travel about 3 hours every day to work. I finally got it and love it.
Now the story begins.
My wife (not a mac user yet or she is;)) has a Dell laptop and when I told here I'm getting the new
MBA she was screaming why I need another computer over the MBP but got it anyways. :)
after having it for a few days she told me she wants to use it for a little bit, she became in love
with it right away. after that she told me she wants to take it the next day to college, I let
here.
Than it was only once a week, than she said one day for me and one day for her, now she wants to
have it every day :(
I guess I'll have to buy one more of this little toy.

I just received my new MBP yesterday and last night I noticed that I have two specs of dust under
the glass. I don't believe they are pixels because they refract the light around them just like
dust does when its on top of the glass. Only thing is I cant wipe these two black specs off. The
biggest one is on the top right section of the panel and the smaller one is on the bottom left
side.
So what should be my next step? Call Applecare I assume. What are the chances I will get a
replacement? Anybody had any experience in this department?

Hi all,
I've been using my girlfirends White MacBook 2.0Ghz model (when she's not been using it) for the
past two years now, and I think it's time to take the plunge and by my own :)
In lots of ways the MacBook is a fantastic device, but one thing I found particularly annoying was
the sharpness of the screen. My mine gripe was reading internet pages with lots of text. I turned
of anti-aliaising for fonts under pt12 and this helped on the desktop, but not on the web. I found
myself increasing fonts sizes in application just to see them properly. Conversely my Dell work
laptop has 15.4" screen and runs 1920x1080 with pin sharp text.
Watching the videos on the Apple site they talk about new LCD screens for the MB and MBA, yet
spending 30 mins in PC World the other day playing with both of them, I couldn't detect any
discernable difference in the sharpness from my current MacBook.
In fact, my vision was clarified when I set eyes on a MBP with non-glossy screen, that was very
impressive! And the new gen MBP with glossy screen was equally amazing.
So my question is, have there been any chances to the screen in the new MB and MBA ?
Currently I'm thinking I will buy one of the outgoing MBP models with non-glossy screen (also at a
nicely discounted price), because for the number of hours I will look at it, screen quality is
paramount.

Just a quick thought - does it strike anyone that Apple might be abandoning Boot Camp just as much
as they're abandoning Firewire? There hasn't been an update to the Boot Camp drivers as yet, so the
new trackpad (not to mention the GPU) is going unsupported as far as I can tell.
Will Boot Camp be dropped by the time Snow Leopard rolls around? I hope not - I've got a mid-2007
MBP and whilst OS X is great and I've become somewhat of a convert, I still need native Windows
support, so when the time eventually comes to upgrade I'll be needing Boot Camp for sure.

I have a 2.16Ghz C2D MBP and I took 2GB Ram out of my Sony Vaio before giving the Sony to my dad.
However, when I put the 2GB stick in my MBP (along with the original 1GB stick) the MBP will very
rarely turn on, although it does on occasions.
Is it because the RAM is incompatible or is it likely the RAM is faulty?
Thanks

Hey guys,
So I've got a Intel Core Duo MBP, the first version of the past MBP generation, and I was wondering
if the included ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card is capable of outputting HD video to an HDTV set. I
just got a 32" 720p samsung LCD HDTV on black friday and I would love to be able to download HD
content onto my computer and watch it on the TV. Anybody know if this at all possible? I'm not
looking to watch blu-rays via the computer, since I know that OS X doesn't support the format, but
I was just wondering if I could watch any sort of HD video from my comp on my TV via a DVI-HDMI
connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I posted earlier about wanting an new MBP and asked if I should wait. It was easier than explaining
this but I need your opinions.
A week ago I bought the 17 inch MBP from Amazon based heavily on the user reviews. I didn't find
out until after I received and used the computer that it didn't have the DDR3 RAM, 1GHz front-side
bus or the new Nvidia graphics 9400 and 9600 in it. :( The three reviews on the 17 inch MBPs page
said it did have all of these new features.
So now I am stuck. Amazon's return policy states that open computers will incurr a 15% restocking
fee. I have talked to them repeatedly about returning the computer for a full refund because the
information on their webpage was wrong. I keep getting the run around from them. I am pretty sure I
can get a full refund from them it'll just take a little more time.
My question is: Is it worth returning this computer and waiting to get the new 17 inch
model? Will it be that much improved do you think? I look at benchmarks
between this and the new 2.53 15 inch MBP and there doesn't seem to be that much difference. I do
like the new aluminum block construction and higher specs always sound good. I am a heavy Photoshop
user so the better video card may be a plus for me. What do you think?
