The last time we heard from Fucked Up, the Toronto hardcore act was 18 minutes deep in the
prog-rock opus Year of the Pig. Folk artist Jennifer Castle cooed a gentle melody over violins,
lead screamer Damian Abraham harshed the vibe, and Jonah Falco moved deftly between loping and

Swervedriver's auspicious reunion may have been overshadowed by the return of My Bloody
Valentine, but its leader Adam Franklin is nonetheless soldiering on with a new side project
called Magnetic Morning. But it was Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino who launched the supergroup,
after sifting through potential collaborators and finding only prima donnas.
"It is hard working with people that have the ability to write their own songs because in the end
that is what they want to do," Fogarino said. "I would get started with people and then it would
fall apart."
That didn't happen with Franklin, who was probably too distracted in 2008 by his underrated
band's reunion, as well as his brilliant solo effort Bolts of Melody, to take over the
wheel of Magnetic Morning. Instead, the two UK
musicians mindmelded and found a middle ground, which sounds very cool indeed.
Take a listen to "At the Crossroads, Passive" from the duo's aptly named debut
A.M., out October 21 from Friend or Faux Records, and let Listening Post know what you
think. It's a slow-burning psychedelic swirl, somewhere along the lines of Swervedriver's chilled
comedowns like "Cars Converge on Paris" or Bolts of Melody's "Ramonesland," which is to say
awesome. You can catch up with Fogarino and Franklin in the flesh, as Magnetic Morning kicks off
its national tour on October 15 and wraps in mid-November. And keep your eyes peeled for a
forthcoming Listening Post interview with Franklin on Magnetic Morning, Bolts of Melody and the
uncertain future of Swervedriver.
