are currently in development for the iPhone: Yahtzee Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade

Need for Speed Undercover, and The Sims 3. Many of these titles
have been mentioned before, but I was pretty pumped to hear about SimCity and the Sims 3
being added to the list. EA has also revealed that they are shooting to release Spore Origins on

New towers:
Accessible via an Advanced Technologies Base-Tower. This tower will be free to build and will allow
advanced upgrades to the tower. These upgrades are:
- Rapid Fire Tower: Increases nearby tower firing speed down-to 50% of the tower's unmodified
firing speed
- Anti-Air Sonic Wave Tower - blasts nearby flying motes away from the tower stunning them
momentarily (only works on air motes, also does damage)
- New field background graphics
Three new sandbox modes:
- Rocket Apocalypse
- Free-play mode: Build all towers free of resource cost.
- Grounded Motes Only: Air motes are disabled
Balancing Changes:
- Timed Block has been removed and is now replaced as a Time Freeze Tower: Stops time for both
towers and motes, allowing you to place towers without needing to rush. Your score is decreased
every second you use this tower to your advantage.
- Resistance penetration of higher ranked and tiered towers have been reduced significantly. A
variety of tower types will be necessary to succeed.
- The duration of the stun caused by Tier 2 Explosive Tower has been increased to 2 seconds (from 1
second).

It looks like those not willing to give up on DV tape for their HD recording needs now have a pair
of new options to consider from Sony, which has just introduced its HDR-FX1000 and HVR-Z5J
camcorders in Japan. The HDR-FX1000 (pictured above) is the slightly more consumer-minded of the
two, with it boasting a not-outrageous price of ¥400,000 (or roughtly $3,700), and some
impressive specs all around, including a 20x optical zoom, both 24p and 30p modes, and Sony's
G-series lens, which promises to deliver some top-notch images. The HVR-Z5J, on the other hand,
offers some more specialized features like XLR audio inputs, PAL and NTSC compatibility, and
support for the DVCAM format in addition to usual DV/HDV option. Look for it to set you back
¥554,400 (or just over $5,000) when it lands in December, with the HDR-FX1000 set to slip out
ahead of it on November 10th.

No surprise that JVC is showing off their own ultra high-def
10MP wonder projector, since JVC's D-ILA tech also powers the one we
saw from Meridian
a few weeks ago. That means it should deliver the same stunning 4,096x2400 resolution
image—it's like IMAX in your house. Or you can watch up to four full HD screens at once.
The D-ILA tech, with its ridiculous pixel density, is also what lets this thing be a whole 65
percent tinier than conventional ultra HD projectors.
You can stack two to increase the light output, though it generates 3500 ANSI Lumens already.
It's also got an ethernet port, so you can control multiple projectors from your PC, and receive
error reports by email. Price isn't mentioned, but the Meridian setup was $185,000, so you can
use your imagination.

JVC UNVEILS 10 MEGAPIXEL ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION PROJECTOR
4K2K D-ILA Projector Provides Four Times the Resolution of Full HD
Denver, CO (September 3, 2008) – JVC unveils the world's smallest 4K2K ultra
high definition projector, the DLA-SH4K. Based on the company's new proprietary 1.27-inch 10
megapixel D-ILA devices, the DLA-SH4K projects images at greater than 4 times the resolution and
clarity of the industry's latest full high definition projectors. The higher resolution will
bring a new level of reality to aircraft simulators, medical analysis, 3D display, command and
control, museums, theme parks, and ultra high-end home theaters.
The DLA-SH4K will be unveiled at CEDIA September 3 – 6, 2008 and will be on
display throughout the show in the JVC Theater located at The Denver Center for the Performing
Arts next to the Denver convention center.
The projector's chassis achieves a remarkable 65% reduction in size compared with conventional
projectors in its class. This was achieved in part by using JVC's latest 1.27-inch Direct Drive
Image Light Amplifier (D-ILA) devices and a new optical system. D-ILA is a proprietary form of
Liquid Crystal on Silicone (LCOS), a reflective technology that offers far greater pixel density
than competing devices.
The D-ILA devices used in the DLA-SH4K provide a native 4096 x 2400
resolution—multi-screen display modes that allow users to view up to four Full
HD screens at a time. A new optical design featuring an 825 Watt Xenon lamp generates a light
output of 3500 ANSI Lumens and features adjustable lamp power that ranges from 825 to 660 watts.
Two DLA-SH4Ks can be stacked for increased light output. In addition, the projector can be
inclined up to a ± 90-degree tilt angle and has a horizontal lens shift of
±25% and vertical shift of ±50%, which enables flexible installation.
The DLA-SH4K includes DVI-D (dual-link) x 4 input terminals that accept a wide variety of input
resolutions. In addition to the RS-232C and USB connections, an Ethernet interface makes
adjustment and installation from web browsers on PCs possible. Furthermore, networking allows
multiple projectors to be operated with a single PC and an email function also enables the
sending out of error messages and lamp replacement reminders.
JVC will offer two lenses for the projector, the GL-MS4015SZG 1.22x zoom lens for screens up to
300 inches, and the GL-MS4011SG short throw lens for screens up to 250 inches. The DLA-SH4K is

Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques are now widely used for cosmological parameter
estimation. Chains are generated to sample the posterior probability distribution obtained
following the Bayesian approach. An important issue is how to optimize the efficiency of such
sampling and how to diagnose whether a finite-length chain has adequately sampled the underlying
posterior probability distribution. We show how the power spectrum of a single such finite chain
may be used as a convergence diagnostic by means of a fitting function, and discuss strategies for
optimizing the distribution for the proposed steps. The methods developed are applied to current
CMB and LSS data interpreted using both a pure adiabatic cosmological model and a mixed
adiabatic/isocurvature cosmological model including possible correlations between modes. For the
latter application, because of the increased dimensionality and the presence of degeneracies, the
need for tuning MCMC methods for maximum efficiency becomes particularly acute.

Du printemps 2007 au printemps 2008, nous avons mis en Å“uvre une enquête dans un
quartier de Brest, le quartier de Kérourien [1] . Kérourien constitue une zone
d'habitat social dense où les HLM de l'OPAC prédominent. En outre, c'est un quartier
classé en zone urbaine sensible (ZUS). Cette enquête participative [2] avait pour
objectif de récolter des informations sur les limites et les freins à la diffusion
des TIC et améliorer les connaissances en matière de profil des non-internautes. Le
second objectif visait à « démocratiser » les outils statistiques en
permettant à un groupe d'habitants de participer à l'ensemble du processus d'une
enquête par questionnaires.

Cette démarche partait de deux constats intimement liés : d'une part, la
difficulté qu'il y a à approcher les non-usagers et à les décrire ;
d'autre part, la connaissance des non-usagers se fait essentiellement à travers les
enquêtes qui sont menées sur les usagers.
Ainsi, plusieurs organismes travaillant sur l'observation et la compréhension de la
diffusion des TIC et de la société de l'information ont proposé des
typologies visant à mieux caractériser les non-usagers.
En 2005, les analystes du GIS M@rsouin proposaient, dans leur « panorama 2005 des usages
des TIC en Bretagne » des profils de non internautes à partir des 47% de Bretons qui
n'avaient pas utilisé Internet au cours de l'année précédente
[1] .
Cette typologie était construite à partir de la connaissance de leur intention
future d'utilisation et de leur environnement technologique. On y notait que l'appétence
vis-à-vis d'une future utilisation d'Internet était croissante avec le niveau de
'capital social' (entourage connecté, capacités financières et niveau
d'éducation initial). Trois grandes classes se dégageaient : (i) Ceux qui allaient
s'y mettre ; (ii) Ceux qui devaient s'y mettre : avec des résistants et des volontaires et
(iii) ceux qui étaient loin de s'y mettre (81%) : avec les exclus
socio-économiques, les exclus de génération et les indifférents.
L'organisme statistique national du Canada a également élaboré une typologie
dans le cadre de son enquête sur l'utilisation d'Internet en 2005 [Cohendet et Stojak,
2005]. Trois groupes de non-usagers ont été identifiés :
Le Groupe 1 : dit des « les non-utilisateurs radicaux ». Il s'agit
de personnes généralement assez âgées (plus de 65 ans) et/ou aux
revenus très modestes. Ils ne voient aucun intérêt à investir dans un
accès quelconque à Internet. Même avec une implication forte des pouvoirs
publics, la probabilité que ce groupe reste à l'écart est grande.
Le Groupe 2 : dit des « utilisateurs potentiels distants ». Il
s'agit de personnes généralement âgées de 55 à 65 ans, qui
n'ont pas les compétences pour utiliser Internet et peu de motivations pour le faire.
Seule une implication forte des pouvoirs publics pour les convaincre de l'intérêt de
se connecter et les former à l'utilisation des NTIC serait susceptible dans les
années à venir de changer cette situation.
Le Groupe 3 : dit des « quasi-utilisateurs ». Il s'agit de personnes
qui, pour des raisons de moyens ou de situation géographique (dans des zones rurales ou
montagneuses), n'ont pas encore accès à Internet, mais sont désireuses de
trouver les moyens de se connecter.
Dans le cadre d'une enquête qualitative menée auprès de 70 non-internautes
aquitains, Aurélie Laborde et Nadège Soubiale ont identifié 5 profils de
non-Internautes : les « utilisateurs indirects » qui ont recours à leur
entourage pour bénéficier des informations et services d'Internet ; les «
totalement déconnectés » n'ont aucune expérience et aucune
connaissance concrète d'Internet ; les « distanciés » ont une
connaissance minimale et/ou une expérience avortée d'Internet mais ne voient pas
l'intérêt de poursuivre dans cette voie ; les « abandonnistes » ont
utilisé Internet mais ne l'utilisent plus et les « utilisateurs occasionnels ou
débutants » [2]
La dernière typologie proposée est celle de l'AWT qui a identifié 6 profils
de la fracture numérique à partir des 31 % de Wallons qui déclarent ne pas
utiliser Internet : (1) résistants à la nouveauté et réfractaires ;
(2) non "usagères" actives ou inactives avec proxys ; (3) fracturés sociaux actifs
avec proxys ; (4) fracturés sociaux inactifs et sans proxy ; (5) seniors en couple sans
proxy ; (6) seniors seuls sans proxy . [3]
La lecture des enquêtes menées par les instituts de sondage, comme
Médiamétrie, ne nous en apprend guère plus sur les non-internautes, si ce
n'est en lisant quelques unes de leurs données en « négatif ». Ainsi,
si l'on apprend qu'en juin 2008, 58,3 % de la population française âgée de 11
et plus s'était connectée au cours du dernier mois, sommes nous en mesure de
déduire que 41,7 % de la population n'avait pas été connectée.
Notons que nous émettons quelques hypothèses concernant le mode de passation des
enquêtes pouvant biaiser les résultats en ne donnant pas la place qu'ils devraient
avoir aux non-usagers. Ainsi, les taux d'utilisateurs ou de connectés sont sûrement
surévalués : en effet, les modes d'administration des enquêtes sont en
général peu adaptés pour atteindre des non-utilisateurs potentiels. (ex.
Lorsque l'enquête se fait par téléphone, elle exclut automatiquement tous les
foyers qui ne disposent pas de ligne fixe mais un téléphone mobile ; si
l'enquête se fait en face à face, ce sont alors les foyers installés dans des
zones difficiles à interroger tels que les îles, la haute montagne, les zones
sensibles ou les personnes résidant dans des habitations mobiles terrestres, sans abris
qui sont écartés, etc.). En outre, ces enquêtes, et donc leurs
résultats, sont liées à l'acceptation de répondre et les personnes
intéressées par les technologies ont davantage tendance à y répondre.
Et malheureusement, nous disposons généralement de peu d'informations sur les non
répondants.
À travers le « baromètre de la diffusion des nouvelles technologies »
du CREDOC de Juin 2007, nous pouvons de même extraire un certain nombre de
caractéristiques des internautes et donc aussi des non internautes : la tranche
d'âge, le niveau de diplôme, la tranche de revenus du foyer, le type de profession ou
la catégorie sociale. Ainsi, si nous comptons 93 % d'internautes chez les 12-17 ans - soit
7 % de non internautes -, la tendance s'inverse dans le grand âge avec seulement 9 %
d'internautes chez les personnes de 70 ans et plus.
Le diplôme génère des différences au moins aussi sensibles : seulement
une personne non diplômée sur cinq peut être qualifiée d'internaute,
alors que 90% des diplômés de l'enseignement supérieur surfent sur Internet
d'une façon ou d'une autre.
Les revenus sont extrêmement corrélés avec la probabilité d'être
internaute. Plus les revenus du foyer sont élevés et plus on a de chances de se
connecter. On passe ainsi de 42% de connexion pour ceux qui perçoivent moins de
900€ par mois - soit
