Our pals at Jigsaw Renaissance are looking for new
members so they can afford a new hackspace.
Director Willow Brugh sent us the following:
Jigsaw is a group of multi-disciplinary individuals with a desire to educate themselves and
others. We band together to share space, tools, ideas, and motivation. It doesn't matter who you
are or what you want to do - we want to help you do it*
Why we need a new space: we're currently housed under the West Seattle bridge,
amongst construction and loud transportation. We found a space in Seattle's First
Hill which would be perfect : high ceilings, concrete floors (covered with a thin layer of
carpet), kind neighbors, bus lines, etc. It's big and it's gorgeous.
Why we need your help: Unlike many hacker and maker spaces in the US, Jigsaw is
member supported. We make our rent by all pitching in. To make this new space work, we need more members. While we have the
money to move into the space, we don't have the membership to support it sustainably. We're about
$900 shy per month (which seems like a lot, but we started with a third of the membership base we
needed to move in, gained another third in the last week, and are now left with the remainder).
If you're in Seattle, please consider joining up. Details can be found here on becoming a member.

At times it feels like the concept of cloud computing
is as ephemeral as a towering cumulus cloud on a summer day. It passes by, changes shape and
looks different to every person who views it. But like those clouds in the sky, there's a lot of
complexity out there, especially as it concerns how data is managed in a multi-tenant
environment.
The issue keeps coming up. First off, there are no existing standards for moving data in the
cloud. Third party vendors like CloudSwitch are providing
ways to "drag and drop," data from on-premise to a cloud environments. But there is just no
standardized way to move information between cloud networks.
Sponsor
But there are some ways to manage the complexity.
Informatica's David Linthicum wrote a blog post yesterday on the topic. We agree with
Linthicum to some extent but his declarations don't entirely reflect the current reality.
Linthicum outlines some of the inherent issues that come with data integration in the cloud. The
biggest issue comes down to the cloud computing providers. They do not provide syncing back to
the customer's on-premise environment. Linthicum points out that Salesforce.com is the exception to the rule in this regard.
So, according to Linthicum, what should the customer consider?
- Backup: This is the first and foremost issue for Linthicum. You need to have an on-premise
backup in case of cloud computing outages, cloud service providers going out of business or to
prevent the headaches that can happen when the new owner of your cloud computing provider decides
that it's really not interested in that business at all.
- Data Movement: It's the data integration that drives processes between systems that may be in
the cloud or on-premise. How do you manage all this information that may be dispersed over
geographically distant platforms? It's a different world than dealing with systems that exist in
one data center.
We agree to a point but there are lots of various options to these issues. First off, it's often
a matter of what cloud computing platform you choose. The large service providers offer the
safest bet. They are vested in the future of cloud computing and are developing ecosystems that
consist of third-party partners. A number of these partners specialize in cloud-based application
deployments.
And cloud-based security is making advances that make data loss as rare as if the data is
on-premise.
Linthicum does offer some sound advice that may seem more like common sense but it is worth
noting:
"First, consider the overall requirements of the business. Sounds obvious, but many who deploy
cloud computing systems do not have a complete understanding of the overall business requirements.
Second, focus on the holistic architecture, on-premise and cloud-delivered, including how they
will and should exchange data to support the core business.
Finally, select the right data integration technology for the job, and do so only after taking
everything into account. You'll find that there are both on-premise and on-demand options, and in
many instances you may have to mix and match solutions."
There are a lot of options out there. We do not necessarily agree that the hybrid approach is the
best way to go. There is no one formula. Standardizing on the cloud has its advantages.
But, still, the over riding issue is really how data passes between systems. Without standards
for managing data transfer, the issues Linthicum points out will never go away.

This series is supported by Rackspace, the better way to do hosting. Learn more about Rackspace’s
hosting solutions here.
Contrary to popular belief, web developers do sometimes
leave their desks, and when they do, that’s always when clients seem to call or disaster
seems to strike.
We’ve highlighted some iPhone apps here that will help you out in those situations, and a
few others that will stash several neat tricks up your proverbial sleeve for when you’re
away from the office.
Have a look, and if you’re an iPhone-owning web dev, let us know which apps you find useful
for your work in the comments below.
1. Code Cheat
Sheets
Concentric Sky offers a range of code “cheat sheets” ideal for when your mind just
goes blank and you’re away from your usual reference material. Priced at $0.99 each, there
are apps available for CSS, mySQL, JavaScript, php, RegEx, jQuery and HTML — the last three
of which let you write and test code inside the app. Searchable, and clearly laid out, the info
in the apps is available offline, unlike other options that link out to external references.
Whether you want to brush up on the bus, or need to code on-the-go, these will be a useful weapon
in your web design arsenal. Another great alternative is jQuery 1.4.
Cost: $0.99 each
2. Color Stream
A little bit like Adobe’s Kuler on
your handset, Color Stream is an app that will help you narrow down the correct color, or palette
of colors, for a project. The Lite version of the app is available for free, and lets you create
a palette of five colors side-by-side using a slider bar in either RGB or CMYK modes. You can
then identify your chosen shades by their hexadecimal values for use on the web. This is handy
enough, but the paid-for option (priced at $2.99) offers even more functionality, such as the
ability to save palettes, use the built-in color schemes, or even match colors perfectly by
creating a palette based on elements from an image or photo.
Cost: Lite version is free, full version is $2.99
3. FTP on the Go
If you need to be able to securely log-in to a server away from your desk, then this app —
which emulates desktop FTP clients on your mobile — might well be the answer. As well as
offering the ability to edit text on the fly and make those changes live quickly, there’s
the option to view common file types, download them to your iPhone, e-mail them, and upload
videos and correctly-sized pics from your mobile device too. Meanwhile, cleverly getting around
the iPhone’s multi-tasking issues, there’s a built-in web browser so you can see
changes without leaving the app, allowing for speedy work — which as far as we know, no
client has ever complained about.
If you don’t need access to your FTP server, don’t forget about Dropbox for the iPhone, which will let
you view your Dropbox folder while on the go.
Cost: $6.99
4. Ego
For an on-the-go, at-a-glance look at you site’s stats, either for your own consumption, or
to keep a customer satisfied, Ego is a one-stop-shop for such data. This app does not go into
extreme detail, but it will summarize data from Ember, Feedburner, Google Analytics, Mint (with an additional download), Squarespace, Twitter and Vimeo. Data such as how many Twitter followers an account has
racked up, feed subscription totals, and visitor numbers are all at your fingertips in an
easy-to-use app that saves you logging into to a plethora of individual services. The developer,
Garrett Murray, says Ego offers a flexible framework for adding support for other services, and
welcomes suggestions on adding other stat-tracking options.
Cost: $1.99
5. Read & Note
In addition to offering a full-screen browser (as opposed to the iPhone’s Safari window),
this app allows you to make notes on, or copy and paste text from, web pages. Whether
you’re browsing around for inspiration or assessing a site for changes/improvements, being
able to easily annotate the web with a mobile app is simply brilliant. Other functionality
includes the ability to upload .txt .doc .pdf .ppt .xls .rtf .jpg files, bookmark sites, and
share uploaded documents over Wi-Fi to any web-enabled computer.
Cost: $1.99
Series supported by Rackspace
Rackspace is the better way to do hosting. No more worrying about web hosting
uptime. No more spending your time, energy and resources trying to stay on top of things like
patching, updating, monitoring, backing up data and the like. Learn why.

Veescope Live 2.0 Veescope Live provides real-time visual feed back on a live video
source connected to your Apple MacIntosh computer. Veescope displays real-time chroma key, and high
and low video level Zebra patterns. It uses the computer's graphics card, instead of the CPU
allowing for much better performance. Veescope Live works with any Quicktime video input source,
such as a DV firewire stream, or a high-definition video capture card. In addition, Veescope Live
can display a waveform or vector scope directly on top of the video. Veescope Live provides
industry standard scopes such as, Waveform and Vector. Veescope Live overlays any scope directly on
top of the video in order for you to locate problems with the video. The video underneath the scope
is changed to black and white, in order to make the scope more visible. Veescope Live has a real
time Chroma Key preview allowing you to make adjustments to key color, hue range, saturation range,
and luminance range. Best of all, the chroma keying is being performed on your graphics card
leaving your computer free to do other things.

By Tim Conneally, Betanews
Motorola's Droid has been by far the most popular Android smartphone to hit the U.S. market,
selling
at a faster pace than the first generation iPhone, and making up, by some accounts, at least 15% of all Android
phones in use.
It was the first handset to launch with Android 2.0, a significantly redesigned version of Google's
mobile operating system, and it was the first Android device on Verizon, making it a popular
choice for the wireless provider's huge subscriber base.
Though it remains a very strong consumer device, the Droid's popularity in the tech community was
quickly overshadowed by Google's Nexus One, which was launched only three months after it. The
Nexus One became Google's first attempt at directly selling smartphones, and the first handset
with Android 2.1. 2.1 was only a minor platform
upgrade, with no new features as substantial as those brought by 2.0, but it included full
multi-touch support and tweaked the UI with eye-catching animated wallpapers and became an object
of desire for Android enthusiasts.
This week, just two months after 2.1 debuted in the Nexus One, Verizon will begin pushing it as
an over-the-air update to the Motorola Droid.
The foremost feature will be the addition of multi-touch to the browser and photo gallery. The
Droid supports multi-touch, but only recently got pinch-to-zoom in
Google Maps. It will also natively support voice-to-text entry, include a new 3D gallery
application, a new weather and news app with a related widget, and the famous animated
wallpapers.
Android Central reports that Verizon approved the update today, and that it
will roll out to 250,000 Droids at a time starting at 12:00pm Thursday, March 18.

bravo.
Copie du message : [--SUITE--]360 players may have noticed that a Title Update went live for Metro
2033.
There's a couple of reasons for this - primarily it's to allow the game to accept DLC further

pkg_rolling-replace -rsuvX bmake,bootstrap-mk-files,pax,pkg_install
Deux échecs seulement dans la mise à jour des 506 paquets.
