John Darnielle's catalogue is so deep that there's room for hits and misses alike. Satanic Messiah definitely falls into the former category; a work of unusual subtlety based in large part on the piano and Darnielle's thin but sure voice. Only "Wizard Buys a Hat" broadens the instrumental palette, but not to the detriment of EP's overall mood. This is something of a high water mark among short-form Mountain Goats releases, consistent and dedicated to a narrative that's open to your wildest interpretation. - paul

I'm porting an old legacy Mac OS 9 application to Leopard, and am trying to build an interface in a window, using InterfaceBuilder and a NIB file. The palette of controls from which I can drag controls contains a horizontal scroll bar, but not a vertical one.

How can I place a vertical scroll bar into my window as a control? If I try to change the size of a horizontal scroll bar, IB won't allow its height to be changed.

I'm mystified. Why is it so hard to create a vertical scroll bar? IB's help files are of no ... help.
