Metisse est un projet développé par des chercheurs français qui vise à révolutionner les interfaces de bureau. Le but est de pouvoir interagir autrement avec son bureau, en ajoutant de la profondeur, des effets de perspectives etc ... Vous avez certainement déjà vu ce projet en action, voici quelques vidéos qui parleront d’elles mêmes.

Le principe de base est similaire à compiz : les fenêtres sont transformées par le gestionnaire pour obtenir des effets, ou des transformations. La principale force de Metisse par rapport à compiz est qu’il est possible d’interagir avec ces fenêtres transformées. Quand vous êtes sous compiz, impossible d’appuyer sur le bouton pause de la vidéo quand le scale, le coverflow ou le cube sont activés. C’est ce qu’on appelle l’Input redirection (IR), longtemps attendu pour compiz mais qui n’existe actuellement qu’à l’état de patches expérimentaux. Sous Metisse, on peut manipuler à volonté des fenêtres transformés, les tourner dans tous les sens, les réduire, les augmenter etc ...

Un désavantage de Metisse est que pour arriver à faire de l’IR, un 2e serveur X (modifié) doit être lancé. C’est à l’intérieur de ce serveur que Metisse est exécuté. Si vous avez connus XGL, c’est un peu la même problématique.

Autre problème, ce serveur X modifié n’est pas synchronisé avec le développement actuel de X, donc certaines options récentes peuvent être absentes.

Malgré cela, l’utilisation reste possible dans de bonnes conditions, soit en lançant Metisse au démarrage (au changement de session), soit en le lançant dans une session existante et Metisse sera une simple fenêtre dans votre environnement.

Au niveau de sa disponibilité, Metisse a été énormément poussé par Mandriva qui l’a intégré depuis pas mal de temps à sa distribution. Mandriva participe également au développement de par ses remontés de bugs, mais aussi parce que le mainteneur de Metisse dans Mandriva fournit pas mal de patches en retour. Je ne l’ai pas vu sur Fedora, mais il existe des paquets pour des distributions moins connues comme Zenwalk.

Sous Ubuntu et Debian, aucun paquet n’existe encore dans les dépôts officiels. Mais vous allez maintenant pouvoir servir de béta-testeurs Des paquets sont disponibles dans mon PPA. Pour Debian, il faut télécharger les sources dans le PPA (les fichiers *.tar.gz) de nucleo et metisse et les reconstruire sous Debian.

2 possibilités pour tester : le raccourci dans le menu Accessoires pour lancer une “fenêtre” indépendante, soit au démarrage choisissez Metisse. Assurez vous d’avoir l’accélération 3D activée (cad compiz qui peut marcher sur votre machine).

Metisse est configuré de façon assez standard dans ces paquets. Il existe des options d’optimisation possibles, mais il faudra lancer Metisse manuellement (voir la doc) mais cela n’a rien de sorcier. Les nombreux raccourcis claviers sont présent sur cette page.

Je n’ai pas pu tout tester, je suis donc très intéressé par vos retours et vos commentaires

L’une des innovations majeures de la réforme proposée par la commission Varinard consiste à fixer à 12 ans l’âge auquel un enfant pourrait être responsable, qui devient aussi l’âge auquel il pourra être incarcéré.

Il est de fait que si aujourd’hui une incarcération ne peut pas intervenir, soit sur une décision de mise en détention provisoire, soit sur une décision de condamnation pour un mis en cause ayant moins de 13 ans au moment des faits, il est possible de poursuivre pénalement un enfant ayant 7/8 ans, âge du discernement. Il convient de distinguer les deux problèmes de l’imputabilité et de la responsabilité sans rebuter le lecteur pour comprendre ce qui est en train de se jouer à travers la réforme avancée.

On peut me semble t-il expliquer simplement les choses sans être rébarbatif et quitte - les purs juristes me pardonneront - à prendre quelques gants avec la technique pure.

1° S’agissant des poursuites c’est-à-dire de l‘âge à partir duquel un enfant peut avoir à rendre des comptes à la justice quand il viole une règle sanctionnée par une mesure pénale,.

Volontairement je ne parle pas de peines et on comprendra plus loin pourquoi.

Traditionnellement notre droit français ne fixe pas de seuil d’âge comme le font d’autres législations et comme y invite la Convention internationale sur les droits de l’enfant. Il y avait bien eu un projet de loi avancé sous le ministère Nallet (présidence François Mitterrand) qui envisageait déjà de fixer ce seuil à 12 ans. Ce projet a fait long feu.

A défaut de disposition spécifique pour les enfants, en application des grands principes du droit pénal français une personne ne peut avoir des comptes à rendre à la société via la justice que si trois conditions sont réunies :

 -cette personne a-t-elle commis un fait qui peut être une abstention come une action ?

- ce fait est-il punissable en vertu d’une loi antérieure car on ne fait pas rétroagir la loi pénale ?

- cette personne a-t-elle le discernement c’est-à dire non seulement la conscience non altérée par une maladie mentale mais encore une claire vision du permis et de l’interdit, du bien et du mal ?

On estime généralement que la jeune personne acquiert le discernement autour de 7-8 ans moment où elle s’ouvre sur le monde et ses règles pour quitter la seule considération de son propre nombril.

Notre droit renvoie donc ici comme en matière civile - à quel âge les parents estiment-ils que l’enfant a suffisamment de discernement pour rentrer chez lui seul et avec la clé de la maison ? - à une appréciation subjective, au cas par cas. Le policier, le procureur, le juge, l’avocat, les parents, l’éducateur, chacun sera amené à répondre à cette question pour décider si une poursuite pénale est légalement possible à l’encontre du jeune infracteur. Ces poursuites sont-elles opportunes est une autre question. Ils répondront en un dixième de seconde. Eventuellement on fera appel à un expert. Il se peut également que l’enfant ayant acquis le discernement soit considéré comme ayant eu ses facultés mentales altérées au moment de l’acte. Ce fut le cas notamment ces dernières années pour les parricides de Versailles et de Belfort.

Certains enfants acquièrent le discernement avant 7 ans; d’autres bien plus tard. Notre droit ne fixe pas de seuil; il demande à la justice de se prononcer spécialement pour chaque jeune.

La Commission Varinard propose de fixer une présomption générale de discernement à 12 ans. Aucune poursuite pénale ne pourrait donc être envisagée contre un enfant avant 12 ans même si je crois discerner, c’est le cas de le dire, que des exceptions pourraient être envisagées. On maintient bien sûr l’hypothèse de l’acte de folie.

Faut-il être contre cette disposition ?

Je suis partagé.

Cette proposition répond aux termes de la Convention internationale sur les droits de l’enfant. Je ne peux le nier. L’association des magstrats dela jeunesse proposait 13 ans.

Je suggérerai conformément au principe de parallélisme des formes et des règles, de se demander tout de suite à quel âge on va considérer que se perd le discernement car il arrive malheureusement un temps de la vie où l’on discerne moins bien le permis et l’interdit.

Plus sérieusement, notre droit actuel permet de faire du sur-mesure et d’intégrer ce bon sens auquel appelle notre Garde des Sceaux.

Personnellement je n’aurais pas proposé cette disposition sachant que notre droit permet le sur-mesure indispensable aux enfants. S’agissant le plus souvent d’enfant auteurs d’actes sexuels sur des proches, des réponses éducatives civiles sont possibles.

Ma reserve tient en fait à ce que si cette disposition est adoptée  une vraie question politique est posée jusqu’ici esquivée : que faire des enfants qui ne pourront pas de par la loi être poursuivis en justice ? Si je suis le rapport Varinard il appartiendra aux Comité locaux de prévention de la délinquance et de sécurité, donc aux maires de s’en préoccuper et cette perspective n’est pas si évidente que cela. On prévoit notamment des lieux de contention pour ces enfants qui seront mis en place, si je comprends bien, par l’aide sociale à l’enfance dès lors que le président du conseil général apporte depuis le 5 mars 2007 son concours à la prévention de la délinquance confiée au maire. On aimerait bien entendre sur ce point la voix des associations de maires et de l’association des conseils généraux. Il faudra aborder avec lucidité et réalisme ce volet de la reforme.

Revenons donc au droit et au deuxième sujet traité avec ce seuil de 12 ans

2°S’agissant maintenant des réponses judicaires possibles si un jeune est tenu pour ayant le discernement

La réforme nous propose de pouvoir mettre en Å“uvre que des sanctions éducatives ou des peines.

On requalifie de sanctions éducatives les mesures éducatives (liberté surveillée ou l’accueil dans un internat) pour bien laisser à penser - c’est revendiqué - qu’un enfant, qualifié désormais de mineur, ne fait pas l’objet de compassion mais d’une punition. Jugulaire, jugulaire. Autorité et répression oblige nous dit-on.

Passons pour l’instant pour aller à l’essentiel. Notre droit propose aujourd’hui une gradation légale des réponses pénales de façon à éviter certaines dérives. Il cadre avec l’objectif initial assigné à la Commission Varinard par Rachida Dati : rechercher une gradation des réponses pour les enfants. Nous l’avons, pourquoi la rechercher.

Qu’on en juge :

- Aucune poursuite avant le discernement, on l’a dit mais des mesures éducatives civiles sir le comportement ou les conditions de vie de l’enfant inquiètent.

- A partir de 7-8 ans on peut y compris en matière criminelle, répondre par des mesures éducatives civiles ou pénales prises par le juge des enfants ou par des sanctions éducatives prononcées par le Tribunal pour enfants.

- A partir de 13 ans, outre les mesures éducatives civiles et pénales, on peut punir, mais la peine encourue est moitié moindre que celle encourue par un majeur pour des faits analogues

- A partir de 16 ans, outre les mesures éducatives civiles et pénales le juge peut d’initiative retirer le bénéfice de l’excuse atténuante de responsabilité s’il estime que le jeune avait la maturité d’un adulte. Mieux : désormais (2007) la loi retire automatiquement l’excuse de minorité aux multirécidivistes de 16-18 ans... sauf au juge à la rétablir s’il l’ose. En d’autres termes un mineur de 16 ans au moment des faits peut en matière criminelle être condamné la réclusion criminelle à perpétuité.

Ainsi une échelle des réactions judiciaires est prévue qui tient compte de l’état de maturité du petit d’homme qui part des vagissements pour arriver au droit de vote.

La commission Varinard propose une autre architecture en suggérant à partir de 12 ans :

1° de permettre non seulement à la juridiction de prendre des sanctions éducatives comme le placement en institution mais aussi d’autoriser une condamnation à une peine notamment de prison en matière criminels quand aujourd’hui on ne le peut qu’à 13 ans.

2° de pouvoir placer l’enfant criminel en détention provisoire sachant que cette possibilité avait été supprimée en 1989 (loi de 1987 applicable en 1989 ministère Chalandon sous Jacques Chirac comme premier ministre)

3° en revanche en matière délictuelle - faits punis au plus de 10 ans d’incarcération-, c’est-à-dire pour le commun de la délinquance des jeunes, on reculerait à 14 ans l’âge de la détention provisoire. Pour le coup on est surpris quand on nous dit que le cÅ“ur de la délinquance préoccupante est constitué par les 12-14 ans. Cela appellera à l’encontre des enfants de 13 ans à recourir plus que jamais à des jugements sur présentation immédiate, nom donné à la procédure de flagrant délit applicables aux enfants.

Que penser spécialement de l’idée d’abaisser à 12 ans l’âge d’incarcération des enfants criminels ?

Je ne vois pas ce qui justifie en France Il n’y a aujourd’hui aucune acuité sur cette question. On a déjà les moyens de les poursuivre (voir supra) et on dispose des réponses adaptées.

Il est donc clair que cette mesure est une disposition d’appel qui conduira sous peu, l’opinion étant habituée à la prison pour ces enfants, à rendre possible l’incarcération dès 12 ans en matière délictuelle. Ainsi on nous avait promis en 2005 que la procédure de composition pénale - le parquet propose une mesure sous le contrôle du juge - ne serait pas applicable aux enfants, elle l’a été dès 2007.

Sans aller jusqu’à l’incarcération d’enfants, on pouvait élargir les possibilités de contrôle judiciaire à l’encontre des 12 ans qui troublent l’ordre public avec possibilité de sanctionner des accrocs par un placement autoritaire ou un éloignement.

Tout cela peut paraître compliqué mais somme toute compréhensible par des esprits un peu cartésiens : il ne faut pas confondre l’âge où l’on peut rendre des comptes devant la justice et le registre des réactions judicaires possibles.  

Si l’on n’y voit pas clair entre les deux problèmes à traiter qui trouvent aujourd’hui une réponse unique, on aura des difficultés à se positionner. L’enjeu mérite que l’on se prenne la tête 5 minutes.

Dans les jours à venir il faudra aborder d’autres pans de la révolution qui nous est proposée comme la création du tribunal correctionnel pour mineurs.

This is unofficial; I'm not speaking for the devs, and may make errors. I'm not intending to step on the toes of any of the very fine devs for any of the devices (disclosure, I've got dev units of all of them!). Craigs statement about saying something that is true for only 3 days being bandied about for 3 months is ever so true It is also tough to post performance numbers without people thinking its a diss to the non-topmost machine. I don't want to say that, since there are other factors (price, portability, screen preferences, add-ons, support, controls, weight, and so on.)

You might recall my past thread http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php...opic=44373&hl= comparing gp2x to GP2x Wiz. See that for some commentary on what is accurate or inaccurate for those tests (ie: optimized code on gp2 versus unoptimized code on the Wiz, including SDL versus framebuffer, meaning the Wiz numbers are artificially lower and the gp2x ones are pretty high, so the Wiz should actually perform higher in relation to the gp2x than I showed.) Defining a 'fair' benchmark is hard since everyone has a different idea (all running at their best or worst? the type of test.. be it math, graphics, bus intensive .. it is easy to have a test that hits a weakness in one but a strenght in another, and is that a fair thing (typical use) or a cheat (atypical use)? Hard questions.)

Suffice to say my number is a _SINGLE_ (yet repeatable) test; a good benchmark is comprised of many benchmark tests so you can get a good picture from many perspectives.. not just a 'throwing this out there' number.

Still, it is a pretty telling number sometimes as well!

All that said..

Given OutcaST (an emu for which many of you have seen and used for some 6+ years from me in various forms), in a emulated CPU-torture test. (ie: Atari ST sitting at the GEM desktop with a stock TOS image will be in a tight CPU grind loop.) Doesn't really hit the ST's graphic system hard or the like, but the ST wasn't really a complex machine for graphics anyway. So it tests the emulation pretty well, in a situation that makes the mu perform worse than average. (ie: If it normally woudl run 60fps for a game, it'd run this GEM situation at 40-45fps at a guess.) Its also easy to auto-boot into, so no keyboard or audio or the like making the test more situational.. its pure out emulation with the machine not even trying to play audio.

GP2x stock F100, 200MHz IIRC. Highly optimized code.

GP2x Wiz dev unit (not final hardware but pretty close); The code is on GPH slow software only SDL. (no acceleration.) 533MHz.

Pandora Mk2 (version 1.1) devboard; 500MHz. Notaz quick SDL port using framebuffer. ie: Not optimized, but I think its prolly better than the GPH version on the Wiz. (GPH stuff tends to be slower for some reason, perhaps they don't compile with optimizatoins on in the compiler, or add debugging stuff, or the mouse support is in the way, or something.)

Sony PSP original FAT version. Not optimized for multi-cpu core, not really using the separate GPU for anything in this test. (ie: alpha blendsing UIs and such are in the code, but not during this test.) Essentially the PSP is chugging along at 333MHz if memory serves.. I don't recall if I'm clocking down or not in this case .. didn't loo back at the code to see.

Latest version of Outcast fro mthe gp2x, converted crappily to SDL on the non-F100 machines.

GP2x Wiz 70fps

Pandora dev board mk2 180fps

Sony PSP 53fps

During actual game emulation the numbers are all higher by about 20-25%, but thats out of scope for this.

It is hard to explain the pandora being so far out in front of the others; my guess is the less congested bus, the processor being a multigenerational gap (the Pandora CPU is a far far newer design than in the GP2x), and the big cache on the CPU in the pandora.

Note my comments above; the 70 versus 49 (Wiz to gp2x) may not seem so impressive in relation to the pandora, but going back to the origiunal post I was pretty impressed. The Wiz _IS_ a snappy beasty (and this is a bit of a torture test, not a typical emu gameplay test!), so it is a very exciting device.

The Pandora is freaking goddamned fast.

                                                   Il arrive que les meilleurs traducteurs le reconnaissent : parfois, le sens du texte qu’ils doivent rendre en français leur échappe un peu. Non le style mais l’intrigue, l’histoire, le noeud de l’affaire. C’est arrivé à Philippe Jacottet. Connaissant son admiration pour la poétesse en elle, Le Seuil lui avait commandé la traduction de Malina, le roman d’Ingeborg Bachmann que Suhrkamp Verlag venait de publier à Francfort. Mais il avait eu du mal à entrer dans le texte. Aussi décida-t-il de lui rendre visite. Elle vivait alors à Rome. C’était dans les premiers jours de septembre 1972. Lorsqu’il pénétra dans son appartement, elle était au téléphone. Le chancelier Kreisky sondait quelques personnalités sur leur réaction à l’événement dont toute la presse parlait : la prise d’otage des athlètes israéliens aux Jeux olympiques de Munich. Puis l’écrivain et le traducteur se parlèrent, du livre bien sûr, de littérature, de poésie et du reste. Mais emporté par sa timidité, il n’osa pas s’ouvrir auprès d’elle de tout ce qui lui semblait obscur. Du personnage féminin si déconcertant. Et puis il y avait tant à dire aussi sur sa liaison avec Max Frisch, sa passion pour Paul Celan qu’elle disait avoir aimé plus que sa propre vie (Herrzeit. Breifwechsel, leur correspondance intime, est actuellement dans la liste des meilleures ventes en Allemagne selon Books). Il n’osa pas tant elle lui parut poignante et désemparée. C’était à Rome, là même où elle mourut un an après, brûlée vive. Un accident survenu dans des circonstances pas totalement éclaircies, ce qui fit dire un jour à un écrivain que dans cette profession, un suicide est un accident du travail. Elle avait 47 ans.

    Pourquoi en parler aujourd’hui ? Parce que l’éditeur publie à nouveau Malina (285 pages, 21,50 euros, Seuil) mais, comme il est précisé “traduit de l’allemand par Philippe Jaccottet et Claire de Oliveira”. Il en convint lui-même après l’avoir relu de près, pour les raisons évoquées plus haut, sa version méritait d’être retouchée et certains contresens rectifiés. Aussi donna-t-il son accord sans y participer ni même relire les épreuves. Malina est le premier volume d’un cycle que Ingeborg Bachmann avait intitulé Todesarten (Genres de mort) ; les deux suivants, Franza et Requiem pour Fanny Goldmann, sont parus inachevés après sa mort (chez Actes sud). L’essentiel de son oeuvre est constitué de recueil de poèmes, de nouvelles et de pièces de théâtre pour la radio.

   C’est peu dire queMalina, dont l’exil est l’une des figures,est hanté par la mort volontaire. Elle y est omniprésente dans le jeu entre les trois personnages, la narratrice et les deux hommes qu’elle aime d’amour, Malina et Ivan, sans que cet amour se traduise pour autant en acte sexuel. Le sexe n’en est pas moins envahissant sous ses formes les plus agressives, notamment la fascination/répulsion pour le viol et l’inceste à travers des rêves kafkaïens. L’angoisse la submerge : est-on vraiment ce que l’on croit être ? Ne pas oublier le quatrième personnage, la Vienne contemporaine qui ressuscite parfois celle du chef d’oeuvre de Carol Reed Le Troisième homme; d’ailleurs, le chapitre 2 vole son titre au film. C’est d’autant plus adéquat que l’ensemble du récit emprunte souvent leur technique tant au cinéma qu’au théâtre. Ivan est un Hongrois cynique qui travaille dans une institution financière ; Malina est un historien d’art originaire de la frontière yougoslave, mystérieux, lointain et insaisissable ; et la narratrice, mon Dieu, c’est bien elle, cigarette sur cigarette, se cognant aux murs, l’auteur, qui a besoin de cette double vie, qui ne peut être où Ivan n’est pas et ne peut davantage rentrer chez elle si Malina en est absent. Elle a vécu en l’un et meurt en l’autre. “Vivre, c’est lire une page que tu as lue, ou la lire par-dessus ton épaule, la lire en ta compagnie et n’en rien oublier puisque tu n’oublies rien, toi”. La vie, c’est ce qu’on ne peut pas vivre : cette réflexion s’inscrit dans le filigrane du roman à chacune de ses pages. Son univers. Toute mort est un meurtre. Malina ne dit que ça.

   On se retrouve au café Musil, on frémit de joie en écoutant le motet Exultate Jubilate, on se demande pourquoi on ne construit pas un mur des Jubilations pour faire pendant au mur des Lamentations, on s’aime, on se quitte, on se retrouve mais quand c’est dit par une poétessede l’exigence d’Ingeborg Bachmann, même sous la forme du roman, c’est d’une intensité inégalée. La folie schizophrénique guette au détour. Observez la course d’une larme sous cette plume-là :“Une seule larme perle au coin d’un oeil, mais ne parvient pas à rouler, elle cristallise à l’air froid, ne cesse de grossir, second globe géant qui, refusant de tourner avec la terre, s’en détache et choit dans l’espace infini”.Ce qui l’étouffe, ce sont les choses que les mots recouvrent. Lorsqu’elle dit “schilling”, elle ne pense  pas à l’argent que cela désigne mais le goût froid de la pièce envahit sa bouche à en vomir. Elle a une conscience aiguë des mots qui rouillent dans son palais, de ceux qui fondent sous la lèvre et de ceux qu’elle se doit de recracher. Il y a des pages magnifiques sur ce que lire veut dire. La narratrice se dit intoxiquée de livres, rongée par ce vice, “complice d’un épanchement délirant qui s’est coagulé”. Ce qui compte à ses yeux ? “La bassesse d’un enjambement, l’assurance de la vie dans une seule phrase, et la réassurance des phrases dans la vie”.

    On referme le livre en comprenant rétroactivement la perplexité de son premier traducteur face à l’énigmatique beauté du texte. Ce que ça raconte importe peu au fond tant ce que ça dit est si puissant. C’est vertigineux en vase clos. Le lecteur aussi devient obsédé par la perspective d’être emmuré vivant. On comprend que les écrivains autrichiens, entre autres, aient été marqués par Malina,comme ils l’avaient été par la poésie d’Ingeborg Bachmann, et que Werner Schroeter l’ait porté à l’écran sur un scénario d’Elfriede Jelinek. Malina est vraiment une histoire autrichienne qui n’aurait pu être écrite dans une autre langue que l’allemand. Heureux ceux qui la découvrent dans sa musique originale.

Celui-ci s'apparente davantage à la correction d'un précédent budget trop rigoureux qu'à un New Deal à la française. Nicolas Sarkozy a solennellement présenté ce 4 décembre son plan de relance de l’économie française à Douai, ville symbole des difficultés actuelles de la branche automobile. Un plan que le président a voulu « ambitieux, audacieux et imaginatif ».

Correction
Malgré les superlatifs qui ont entouré sa sortie, ce plan reste en réalité d’une ampleur limitée, notamment quand on le compare aux mesures déjà mises en Å“uvre aux Etats-Unis ou préparées pour 2009 par Barack Obama. Il vient toutefois corriger, et c’était plus que nécessaire, la politique budgétaire restrictive que traduisaient les budgets 2009 de l’Etat et de la Sécurité sociale tels qu’ils ont été présenté et discuté au Parlement.
