Reznor broke the bad news that the 3D NIN tour document he had dreamed up for theatrical release
and eventual DVD issue just wasn't meant to be. Reznor chalks it up to "two critical mistakes." As
he writes, "One was to approach a certain record company that owns some of the song rights about
producing/funding. The second was to allow said company to fuck around as usual for months before
saying um... no." Golly, now stronga

Thankfully he calls this "a Kanye West moment" so we don't have to.br /br /Nine Inch Nails have
added a run of 2009 dates Down Under, and oh hey, here's an interesting thing: Quoth Trent, "The

I/em/strong/a, which gets its U.S. release next month. You know what? Johnston might be onto
something. His voice here is all Robert Smith whimper (a familiar sound to Suede's Bernard Butler,
who produced this LP as well as Black Kids' first proper album), while Michael Ramirez's bright,
sharp guitar riffs are Johnny Marr in full-on punctured-bicycle-on-a-hillside-desolate shimmy. I
might just be getting old, but these old things work like a charm on "Turn Cold", filled out by
handclaps and occasional R.E.M.-tinged acoustic guitar strums along with rapidfire basslines and
steady kick-kick-snare drumming. "If these walls never cease to close in, don't me turn cold,"
Johnston cries, echoed by a backing singer. Like the finer moments of Voxtrot, the Lodger, or, yes,
those rough 'n' ready Black Kids MySpace streams-- though probably not your microwave-- "Turn Cold"
manages to reheat cryogenically preserved sounds without anything turning soggy./p p object

pThe debut full-length from Benny Boeldt of the Baltimore-based Wham City collective recalls the
wonky buzzsaws of late-80s video game chiptunes with a focus on the exuberant melodies and dance

pMalawian-born, London-based singer Esau Mwamwaya teams with the European production team Radioclit
for a hugely eclectic mixtape that veers from South Africa's marabi and kwaito music to Hans Zimmer
scores to French and American hip-hop to Michael Jackson. While strong collaborations with M.I.A.,
Santogold, and Vampire Weekend include some surprising left turns, tracks that lean away from the
familiar work even better. [span style="text-decoration: underline;"Best New Music/span]/ppa

pIt's a tough time for magazines and for music, so music and lifestyle mag a
href="http://www.thefader.com/" title="The Fader"The Fader/a is teaming up with indie-focused site
a href="http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/" title="Pitchfork"Pitchfork/a on content and advertising,
the companies said in a joint announcement. The two will also collaborate on money-making events
like concerts and festivals. While both cover a broad range of music, the style and tone of the
print-based iFader/i and the web-only Pitchfork are markedly different. Still, both have been
trying to expand their web offerings in the past year. Pitchfork, for example, launched a music
video channel back in April and Fader has been building up its social net offering a
