Hi all,
I've been using my girlfirends White MacBook 2.0Ghz model (when she's not been using it) for the
past two years now, and I think it's time to take the plunge and by my own :)
In lots of ways the MacBook is a fantastic device, but one thing I found particularly annoying was
the sharpness of the screen. My mine gripe was reading internet pages with lots of text. I turned
of anti-aliaising for fonts under pt12 and this helped on the desktop, but not on the web. I found
myself increasing fonts sizes in application just to see them properly. Conversely my Dell work
laptop has 15.4" screen and runs 1920x1080 with pin sharp text.
Watching the videos on the Apple site they talk about new LCD screens for the MB and MBA, yet
spending 30 mins in PC World the other day playing with both of them, I couldn't detect any
discernable difference in the sharpness from my current MacBook.
In fact, my vision was clarified when I set eyes on a MBP with non-glossy screen, that was very
impressive! And the new gen MBP with glossy screen was equally amazing.
So my question is, have there been any chances to the screen in the new MB and MBA ?
Currently I'm thinking I will buy one of the outgoing MBP models with non-glossy screen (also at a
nicely discounted price), because for the number of hours I will look at it, screen quality is
paramount.

Fujitsu-Siemens external GPU was demonstrated back in November but is now making its way to
selected retailers (we don't know which, yet). The idea is simple and GPU makers had this working
in the labs for years: put an discrete GPU in an external box, with its own power supply,
andnbsp;connectnbsp;it via external PCI-E to the laptop./p pSo far, Fujitsu is the only laptop
makernbsp;that made the plunge. The Amilo GraphicBoosternbsp;has a ATI Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB of
memory. It can drive three displays at once and also serves as a 2-port USB HUB. The photo above
doesn't show the big external PCI-E cable, but you can see it in the video in the full post. /p
pHow do you like the idea of having an external GPU for your laptop and how would you use it? Post
a comment./p pPermalink: a

I've left my phone virgin since I bought it during the 3G rollout, but finally deviced to take the
plunge when I saw some cool apps like PDANet. So, I'm a N00B, and I Jailbroke my phone with QuikPwn
which worked great!
My frustration lies with the fact that there are no clear compatibility reports in Cydia about each
of the apps you download. It seems like 75% of the apps I have tried don't work with the new 2.2
firmware. Some of these include the AppFlow program which uses coverflow to navigate apps. I also
tried Dock, which also does not seem to work, when I do the little swoosh, my contacts come up but
when I click on a contact my phone locks up and I have to reboot it. I realize that some of these
will be fixed in the future, but in the meantime it's real frustrating to download all these apps
and not know if the issue is with the 2.2 firmware, or is it my phone, the app, am I doing
something wrong?
On the other hand, PDANet works GREAT. Even on an EDGE connection at my parents house up in the
mountains, surfing the web worked great. I wouldn't try to download anything, but just reading
blogs, the news, etc, it works great on EDGE.
So, i guess as a N00B to all this, can anyone point me to some good sites which have a lot of
useful information, or is this forum the best place to find stuff?

Dr. Daniel J. Kliman, "an Alameda physician and one of the Bay Area's foremost pro-Israel
activists," died after
apparently plunging seven floors down an elevator shaft in the nine-story Sharon Building at
55 New Montgomery St. in San Francisco. The elevator was out of commission at the time and nobody
is quite clear how it happened.
"Kliman, 38, lived near the temple in Oakland and was perhaps best known as co-founder of
S.F. Voice for Israel, a 4-year-old organization that vociferously demonstrates on behalf of
Israeli causes. He also maintained a practice in Alameda as a doctor of internal medicine and was
an ardent proponent of vegetarianism and alternative transportation to cars...Some in Kliman's
activist community wondered Tuesday if he had been killed by someone he loudly opposed in street
demonstrations over the years, but [Police Inspector Matt] Krimsky called that possibility
'beyond remote.'...'There is no indication of any foul play at this point, even though I've been
getting calls from conspiracy theorists from everywhere, even someone who said they had
information from a seance,' Krimsky said."
In addition to being a pro-Israel activist, the SF Chronicle notes, Kliman also recently
campaigned against Proposition 8.
