pAs expected, studios and producers aren't backing down in the face of strike threats from the
actors' guild. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reiterated that their final
offer of June 30 still stands and are urging the Screen Actors Guild to reverse course and throw
its support behind the proposed contract. It's the latest development in a high-stakes game of
cat-and-mouse that's placed yet another gray cloud over the entertainment industry. In a a

reflects an increase in minimums by 3.5 percent in the first and third years and 3 percent in the

made for online or mobile. Actors would not gain consent rights or compensation for clips used in

and new media programs and increases the residual rate for permanent downloads. br / /p

Verdict:/strong After a history of offering lackluster earbuds, Apple has come through with a
product that sounds really good and is reasonably priced, all things considered. The balanced sound
and dual drivers makes all the difference in the quality factor. While not necessarily thumpy, the
bass has a nice resonance without drowning out many of the high end intricacies found in jazz or
electronic music. The midrange audio is relatively flat and doesn't overpower your ears, which is
nice because it allows the high end noises to really stand out, letting you hear things you don't
get from your car or computer speakers./p pTo see how they stacked up in the headphone scheme of
things, I tested them against a pair of standard iPod headphones, the premium Zune headphones, and

battlemodo/a./p pbull; Unsurprisingly, the Apple In-Ears outclassed the normal iPod earphones in
every category, providing superior sound and comfort./p pbull; The Zune Premium Headphones v2,
which are very good for only costing $30-$40, had bass that was a bit punchier, but could not
compete against the mids and highs of the Apple In-Ears. If you really like bass or a lower price,
you might favor the Zune headphones, which more than get the job done. But on sound quality alone,
the Apple In-Ear headphones are superior./p pbull; Compared to the Shure SE110s, the Apple In-Ear
headphones don't quite match up. It's not a stark difference between the two, but the SE110s are
superior in almost every category, from bass, to high end clarity. Part of that is because the
Apple In-Ears don't have the noise isolation capability, and partly because they're just not quite
as good. And though theyre $40 cheaper than the SE110s MSRP, you can find the SE110s at some online
outlets as low as $75./p pAs far as remote capabilities go, I tested the Apple In-ear headphones
with an iPhone 3G and a first gen iPod touch (neither of which are officially supported. As Apple
claims, the audio works fine with both devices. Neither the remote or the mic work with the iPod
touch 1G at all, merely reducing it to a pair of headphones. On the iPhone 3G, you can't use the
volume, or track changing controls. The remote can only play/pause a song, answer/end a call and
make use of the microphone. But all of those work perfectly fine on the iPhone./p pOverall, the
Apple In-Ear Headphones are a quality product at a fairly reasonable price. They sound great, and
work as expected. That said, unless you really need a remote on your headphones (or just want to
show the world you're a card-carrying member of the Cult of Apple), there are still a couple of
better values out there. Still, Apple's latest headphone offering is not a bad choice. [a

German startup Club Cooee has
launched its 3D instant messaging service in private beta, and it doesn’t disappoint. The
service is a hybrid between traditional instant messengers like AIM and 3D social networks like
Second Life, allowing users to converse in chat bubbles while using their 3D avatars to express
emotions, and can also share photos and links visually. TechCrunch readers can grab one of 500
invites to the private beta here.
The application is very sleek, sporting an intuitive interface and quick, good looking graphics.
Each user can customize the appearance of their 3D avatar to their liking by modifying both their
physical appearance and purchasing in-game outfits using Club Cooee credits. Players can converse
either in private chats or as groups, and can meet in a number of public rooms designed to look
like virtual restaurants and meeting places. Each player is also given a room that they can
spruce up using a variety of in-game items, like televisions (which will be able to show YouTube
videos) and furniture.
To monetize, the site will allow users to buy extra credits to purchase virtual goods, and will
also offer premium services for a fee. Founder Alexander Jorias says that the service is also
planning to generate revenue with a number of B2B partners, and that little, if any money will
come from standard advertising.
While its execution is impressive, Club Cooee will have a few factors working against it. For
one, there’s no way to converse over the network when you don’t have the client
installed - you can’t message users via text messages, nor can you talk to them in a web
interface like meebo. The windowless
application may also confuse some users at first, as it can be easy to accidentally click on a
desktop icon or file while interacting with the Club Cooee client. And finally, it’s
Windows only at the moment (though a Mac version is promised).
Club Cooee will also be facing quite a bit of competition. There is no shortage of virtual
worlds, with available offerings like Second Life, Small Worlds,
Journeys (covered
here), and a number of kid-friendly worlds (Google’s attempt, Lively, is shutting its doors this month).

Ok so my Acer Extensa 4620z was purchased from Best Buy it didn't come with a back-up disk.
But I've been having many other problems with the laptop, such as the screen shutting off when I
turn the Wlan button on or off, another problem is that it cannot find my home network but the WLan
is on and the orange light is blinking.
Many other problems include when I first boot it up it sometimes doesn't turn on and when I put in
my password to log in it freezes and I end up having to press the power key to shut it down. It
also sometimes freezes when I go to restart the laptop.
Another weird problem I'm having with the Acer is that it works completely fine in Safe Mode with
the network adapter and wireless working perfectly fine but when I boot it into Normal mode all the
above errors occur.
I don't know if it's the harddrive the video card or maybe the network adapter. It's all really
confusing. I've been to acers' website plenty of times but no luck with the problems I'm
having.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some people have a hard time taking Apple's earphones seriously. Consider the company's past forays
into listening accessories: several generations of low-end iPod Earphones and Lanyard Headphones, a
pair of $39 In-Ear Headphones that were derided for lousy fit, and the infamous iPod Hi-Fi, an
overpriced all-in-one speaker. Could this company really make a pair of premium earphones worth
owning?...

I installed Vista Home Premium on my new MacBook 2.4 using VMware Fusion 2.0. The virtual
environment is great however I'm dissapointed that Vista Aero is not supported. When I attempt to
use BootCamp, it prompts me to install windows again. Is there any way to run Vista via BootCamp
using the copy that is already installed throught VMware, or do I need to install it twice? The
copy of Vista I have is an OEM/system builder version so I'm not sure if i will be able to install
it again.

Mint, the personal
financial site that won TechCrunch40,
continues to thrive even as our economy sinks deeper into an economic decline. The company has
just been selected as a TechPioneer by the World Economic Forum
in Davos, Switzerland - an honor only given to 34 companies worldwide (other winners in the tech
space this year include Brightcove,
Etsy, Mojix, and Slide, with past winners
including Google, 23andMe, Infosys, and Mozilla). The World Economic Forum is an international
organization aiming to help improve the world, and each TechPioneer is chosen for its
contributions towards meeting that goal.
Since launching at TechCrunch40, Mint has amassed 620,000 users - 4 times more than its closest
rival according to Compete. CEO Aaron Patzer says that the site is now tracking over $150 billion
in total consumer spending, and has also revealed a number of telling trends that display how the
economy seems to have impacted consumer spending.
According to Mint’s aggregated anonymized data, overall spending has dropped $400 in the
last year, with half of that coming in the last two months. Starbucks spending has dropped around
10% (Starbucks has recently reported a 7% drop in month over month revenue). This kind of data
could be incredibly valuable to businesses as a means of predicting spending trends - don’t
be surprised if Mint begins offering a premium service for businesses who would gladly pay for
aggregated spending totals.
Mint is also going increasingly mobile. Earlier this month the site added SMS support for account
updates (text BAL to 696468 (MYMINT) for updates), and a native iPhone application is on the way.

The graphics are 3D and vibrant, and the sounds are very impressive. The control scheme is
interesting -- it's more of a third person shooter, as you use the lower left wheel to move your
