The Boy Genius Report -

Joystiq got its hands on leaked documentation that suggests the Xbox 360 will support USB mass
storage devices in the near future. Screenshots lifted from the documents reveal support for
externally connected devices well over the 512MB capacity of Microsoft’s current Xbox 360
memory units which are presumably now on the road to obsolescence. A note within the document
from a Microsoft software engineer also acknowledges the proliferation of high capacity, high
speed USB storage devices and confirms that Microsoft will release an Xbox 360 system update in
2010 to provide support for this inexpensive class of external storage. This added feature is
good news for those XBOX 360 owners whose core system has limited or no on-board storage as they
will be able to add up to two 16GB USB flash drives and use them in lieu of the pricey Microsoft
add-on hard drive. With the ability to cheaply add on 32GB of storage, that Xbox 360 Arcade and
its sub $200 price tag looks a bit more attractive, no?

Spanish publication Clipset has the first concrete report on pricing and internal specs
for HP's Slate. Seemingly obtained
from HP itself, the €400 ($546) price tag positions the Slate a notch above netbooks and bodes
well for
the expectation that it'll undercut the
iPad's entry level pricing. Straight currency conversations are inadvisable in such situations,
so we'll just have to wait until official stickers for the iPad in Europe are known or HP announces
US prices for the Slate. Further info includes an Atom CPU,
Flash support, USB connectivity, a memory card reader, and a back-mounted webcam (see it after
the break). The launch of this Windows 7 device is slated for June, while retail availability in
Europe is said to be expected at some point "before September." It's not clear what all that means
for the US, but we doubt HP will be making its home turf wait longer than the rest of the world.
Rest assured, we'll be reaching out to HP HQ before they've had their first cup of green tea to
find out.

Wikipedia is an amazing tool that delivers a massive chunk of the entire body of human knowledge to
your web-enabled device ... for free! We all use it, we all love it, and some of us even contribute
our own expertise. Wikipedia's more about the information than the interface, though, and it avoids
showy designs in order to keep loading time minimal. However, if you like your Wikipedia a little
more sexed-up, you can get a gorgeous $3 iPhone app called Articles.
Articles, designed by the talented Sophia Teutschler (aka Sophiestication), looks great and
features an intuitive, very iPhone-friendly interface. Even the name of the app makes it sound like
something Apple would release. Do you really need a Wikipedia app, though, when the website loads
quickly and costs nothing?
Articles provides several tempting arguments that you do. Check out, for example, the maps feature:
you can quickly pull up nearby locations that have associated Wikipedia entries. It's a tourist's
info-laden dream. Articles also provides a multiple-page browsing system, like the one in Safari,
so you don't have to hit your back and forward buttons all the time. There are custom views for
images and info boxes, and a chapter browser for longer articles.
If you're a serious Wikipedia junkie, you'll probably want to check this out. For casual users, it
may be better to hold onto your $3 and use the website instead. The price tag, by the way, is
imminently reasonable, considering the amount of well-thought-out design work Sophia has done
here.

"Boasting a 4.8-inch resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution), a Windows CE 6.0
underlying OS, HDMI / USB sockets (via adapters from a proprietary socket), a voice recorder,
integrated speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack, 8/16/32GB of internal storage, an SDHC expansion slot,
a battery good for 45 hours of music playback (or 10 hours with video) and a format support list
that would drive you batty to read, there's a lot (lot!) to love about this thing on paper."
With a starting price of $299, it seems a bit steep for a device that is only a media player. I'm
actually hoping that the Dell Mini 5 comes in around this price given the iPad's $499 price tag.
Alternatively, given the underlying OS base, a web browser is possible, and combined with a bit
of a price cut could give this some traction.

So much for yesterday’s
pricing revelation as today T-Mobile released the Motorola CLIQ XT with a price tag that is
$30 higher than expected. Available on Even More plans for $129.99 and Even More Plus for
$329.99, the CLIQ XT is still attractively priced considering some the rather positive early
reviews it received. Of course, there are naturally going to be some stragglers who hold out on
the CLIQ XT until Motorola delivers the Android 2.1 update it promised for all MOTOBLUR handsets
back in January (the CLIQ XT ships with Android 1.5), but that can’t be too far away
now… Or can it?
