height="269" align="left" hspace="4" vspace="2"/Here's one in the plus column for the looming robot
uprising: a prototype developed by University of Maryland professor Jaydev Desai could one day
diagnose, hunt, and destroy breast cancer cells all in one sitting, and in a much more efficient
manner than we ham-handed human beings./p pThe beauty of this prototype is that it can work inside
an MRI thanks to its titanium and stainless steel construction. Everything from biopsy, to
diagnosis to cancer-hunting is all completed within the MRI, making for a convenient one stop trip
for patients./p pThe robot kills cancer cells by way of a probe that is inserted into the breast
until it reaches the tumor. The probe then burns the cells until they're all dead. Researchers say
the robot, if successfully deployed into the medical field, could consolidate three months of
hospital trips into a single visit. Better yet, the robot will also be able to access parts of the
human body that human surgeons can't, although researchers didn't elaborate much on that point./p
pUnfortunately, the robot is a prototype, and trials are estimated at four years out, if they
happen at all. "We're not just governed by technology," said said Rao Gullapalli, a collaborator on
the robot from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. "We're governed by
bureaucracy as well." [a

Roland Piquepaille writes "Researchers at the University of Maryland are developing a robot able to
detect and destroy breast cancer cells in a single session. After a tumor is located on an MRI, the
robot will perform a biopsy of the breast while the patient is inside the scanner. 'If the biopsy
displays cancerous cells, the robot will then insert a probe into the breast until it reaches the
tumor. The probe will then burn the cancer cells until they are destroyed.' This looks great, but
the researchers have only built a prototype. After they refine this robot, they'll need to go
through clinical trials and obtain FDA approval. So this is not a robot that will appear on the
medical market before several years."

Despite “spiraling costs” and looming deadlines, NASA decided to move forward with the
planned 2009 launch of the next Mars rover. The next-gen rover is the size of an SUV and will sport
a laser. Final price tag is expected to be near $2 billion.
The Mars Science Lab is designed to roam the Martian plains and study rocks to determine whether
the environment could support microbial life. It will carry a suite of powerful instruments that
can probe rocks and soil in finer detail than previous missions including a laser that can zap
boulders from a distance.

Description:
If you've ever grilled out, then you know that one of the most difficult thing to do is to enjoy
the time with your friends and family while finishing all the items at approximately the same time
without hovering over the grill. Not any more. Grill mate lets you add items of all types to a
queue, and grill mate will tell you how long the items take to cook, when you need to flip them,
and place them on the grill so that they all finish at the same time, allowing you to enjoy the
time with your friends. Remember, the only way to tell if your meat is is done is to check the
internal temperature with a probe thermometer, and Clay Garland III may not be held liable for
foodborne illness due to improper use of Grill Mate.
