 Mitsubishi has been
trickling out details for its mysterious LaserVue HDTV for months
now, but at long last, we finally know the most pertinent piece. Reportedly, the 65-inch set --
which was seen lookin' mighty fine on the CEDIA
floor, by the way -- will retail for $6,999 when it ships to Select Diamond retailers at the end of
this month. The forthcoming 73-inch version doesn't have a price / release date just yet, but given
the way we've found things out about its smaller sibling, we can't say we're shocked in the
least. Read | Permalink | Email

Last month, we posted about a marketing campaign for LittleBigPlanet which involved spreading hidden yard sign-sized
LittleBigBillboards around major cities such as L.A., San Fran, and NYC. The hidden signs are small
enough for someone to pilfer and, in fact, Sony encourages you to do so. However, how will you be
able to go about your thieving, ***in-like ways if you have not a clue as to what these miniature
billboards look like? Perhaps the above image is legit enough to point us in the right
direction.
It sure does look legit; it's got the ladder and lights which match the description. But that's not
good enough for us; we need a bit more than that. Let's say ... send us a pic if you yourself find
such tiny billboards in your city. We'll also be keeping an eye out over here in NYC. If the
billboard is the real deal, then that "October 21" release date plastered on the sign has got us
quite excited for next month. See more images here.
[Thanks tinyEvel!]

I've only heard that it's coming but haven't heard any release date. Does anyone know?
I was thinking if might be coming next week along with the presentation of the new iPods, but I
might have imagined it.

I've been
running around at CEDIA this week, so for today's
installment, on top of a rundown of our app news from the week, we had a chance to give Spore
Origins for the iPhone a spin before it drops (hopefully) this Sunday.
As we saw at E3 and WWDC, the iPhone version of Spore is Spore Origins, which is limited to the
"primordial ooze" stage you see here, with a limited version of the Creature Creator thrown in
for tweaking your bug cosmetically. On the plus side, it's simple and a quick diversion, and it's
fun combo-ing your way through 35 increasingly difficult levels of munching little floaties. You
can also import photos from your iPhone camera to texture-map on your creatures (Benny's Michigan
Fab 5 tee).
But on the downside, the game suffers from the same control awkwardness that all of the
accelerometer-only games do—as you can see in our video, the camera had a
tough time keeping focus because you're always dramatically moving the phone to try to reign in
your creature. A training stage featured a level-like bubble for each axis that showed you when
you were at the zero-point, which was incredibly helpful—too bad it
disappeared after training.
And most disappointingly, Spore for iPhone does not connect with the greater Spore hive in any
way, meaning you won't see any procedurally generated creatures made by real other players of the
game via Spore's central server. Kind of a weird choice for such a connected phone, and most
confusingly, EA says the simpler Java based game for most other cellphones does in fact have
connectivity to the greater spore world.
There's still some vagueness with release date (EA's site still only says "sometime in
September") but all other Spore platforms launch in the US this Sunday. Look for it then or soon
thereafter in the App Store for a price that'll probably be in the $10 and below range.
This week's app coverage on Giz:
- Remember what it was like to buy a CD? Apple's plans to
include lyrics and additional album art via an app download for certain albums will help
you remember.
- Continunig to carry the torch for political apps is
Election '08 - a $1 app that collects poll data, electoral vote projections, and tons of
other election data.
- And at CEDIA, all of the home automation systems are racing each other to
release remote control applications, turning your iPhone into a capable touchscreen control
surface for opening the blinds from across the street or jacking up the AC if your cat gets hot.
For even more apps: see what you missed
last week and check our original iPhone App Review Marathon.
Have a good weekend everybody.

 Look guys,
the cute little cartoon characters thing? Yeah, that ain't workin' so much these days. Folks are
upset, and
rightly so. Castle Crashers is
broken. We know, we know, you
told us a patch was coming. But why isn't it here yet!
... Er, what's that you say? You just had a "great talk" with Microsoft about it? Well, by
golly, gosh, that's great news! But, you say. But what? But you don't have a "specific time frame"? Oh, don't
worry about it. Those 1200 are just water under the
bridge ... Aw, would you look at that: Those knights with their big blocky heads and stumpy wumpy
hands -- how precious.

Pitchfork: Today -

Each and every Tuesday night from September 16 through October 21, at a handful of locales in the
greater Mid-Atlantic region, peppy indie popsters Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will take
the stage to act out their verbiest desires and probably play a song or two. For now at least,
the band's gigging on Tuesdays, and only Tuesdays.
Perhaps fueled by their time spent making music on the most productive day of the week, the band
are reportedly busy at work on a follow-up to last year's Some Loud Thunder
LP. We don't know much about the album, but we'll take just about any odds on the song titles
being long, the rhythms holding steady, and the domestic release date falling on a Tuesday.

B-D reader 'GoliathSlasher' just tipped us off to Rob Zombie's official MySpace page for
Tyrannosaurus Rex, which
he will write and direct, where a new piece of art was posted for the film. Like previous imagery,
the new pic features art by Alex Horley and displays what looks like T-Rex as a badass wrestler (in
addition to being a badass boxer and biker). Read on for a look at watch for casting news soon,
especially if they're going to meet their August 28, 2009 release date.

Ubisoft sent out a
press release this morning confirming that Far
Cry 2 will hit European retail shelves on Oct. 24. The company also announced a
collector's edition, which comes in a wooden box. The fine wooden case sure to be made from only
the finest trees (not really) will deliver the game, t-shirt, art book, collector's map and
"making-of" DVD.
We're still waiting to hear back officially from Ubisoft if North America should plan on getting
the game on Oct. 21, which is currently what many retailers are showing as the release date.

EA's excellent-looking survival horror game Dead Space has been banned in Japan, China and (of
course) ultra-conservative Germany.
According to EA community manager Andrew Green, the moody horror game is simply too moody and too
horrific for German and Far Eastern shelves, which isn't too surprising considering the
territories' long history of game censoring.
But there is one piece of good news (unless you live in Japan): the US release date has been moved
forward again to October 14, more than a fortnight ahead of the original Halloween release. Europe
is still on for October 24 at the moment.
PC versions of Dead Space are planned for a little later, hitting North America on October 20 and
Europe on Halloween, October 31. At least one version got it right.
