Let me start by saying I come from a long unhappy story of being an earlier adopter CTO purchaser.
Ordered during keynote, yeah yeah I know I am a guinea pig. My advice never ever do it...got a
lemon, back and forth phone calls headaches, only buy from store...if you need service and is
business critical, anyway.
Finally got my replacement, no more loose battery cover, not that i complained, now has the 9c84
display, not much difference between that and 9c85 after calibration (don't let the posts on here
fool you - relax) and a different superdrive.
My first lemon unibody 2.8 had HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS21N Firmware SA15, made in korea with the NICE NEW
ZIPPY sound when opening the book. I mean it sounded amazing...like the future. :) My replacement
model has the old school, ANCIENT sounding Matshita DVD-R UJ-868 Firmware KA14. Not so futuristic
sounding...
Okay, question, which is the more desirable drive and why? Abilities, reliabitly, reason for change
of vendor, etc?
I already miss that modern HL-DT-ST sound...am I nuts? Compulsive, alone in this?
Holla back.

AKMA sez, "Benedict XVI, whom I actually admire a lot as popes go, has lapsed into the tedious
reflex of blaming digital technology for the decadence of youth. Vatican Radio reports that
Benedict met with professors and students in Parma, and warned them that because of digital
technology, 'students' capacity for concentration and mental application on a personal level are
reduced; on the other hand there is a danger that the students isolate themselves in an
increasingly virtual reality.' I can understand, to some extent, his resistance to the change in
mode-of-attention that accompanies online activity, but it's disappointing to see him falling for
the bugaboo of replacement panic." Pope Benedict on the Nature of University Reform (Thanks,

Canadian media magnate Ted Rogers, founder and CEO of Rogers Communications, has died.
Rogers, 75, died at his Toronto home, surrounded by loved ones, said a statement from the company's
board of directors. He had recently been admitted to hospital for an existing cardiac
condition.
"We wish to express our deepest sympathy to Loretta and all of the Rogers family for this loss,"
said Alan Horn, Chairman of Rogers Communications and acting CEO.
"Ted Rogers was one of a kind who built this company from one FM radio station into Canada's
largest wireless, cable and media company — a leader also in giving to the community through
his and Loretta's many philanthropic initiatives. He will be sadly missed."
Rogers continued to play an active role in the company, which owns the Toronto Blue Jays, five
Citytv television stations across the country as well as the Rogers cable TV, wireless and radio
and magazine businesses.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
Invested in high-speed, wireless
Rogers, who founded his company in 1960, was known as an outspoken, sometimes unpredictable leader,
known for going against the grain and taking risks that paid off in the end.
Rogers Communications has built itself almost as much on image as on its services, placing its name
on the Toronto stadium once known as the SkyDome, buying the Toronto Blue Jays and investing in
cutting-edge services for its customers.
Rogers's investment in high-speed internet around the turn of the millennium was one of the pivotal
decisions that solidified the company's presence on the market.
He believed that while only a limited number of people would subscribe to high-speed services
initially, the investment would pay off in the long term.
About 15 years earlier, Rogers was also the driver behind a decision to invest in wireless
technologies, which were only in their infancy at the time.
The board of directors for Rogers Communications will form a search committee to find his
replacement, the company news release said.

As a followup to my last post: I
slept on it, read the comments this morning, and got some good feedback from others over GTalk. I
was a little hasty in that judgment of the N97 and it's place in Nokia's Nseries ecosystem. Yes: it
does include the features that Internet Tablet users have been waiting for. It's still not a
replacement.
Internet Tablets still have that sweet 800x480 display. They're still more hackable and
customizable. They still are focused on being a SECONDARY DEVICE that can be left home while a
cheaper phone goes traveling. Personally, I'd think twice before I brought an N97 to a rowdy
concert or any event where it could be in danger. Would you go rock climbing with a US $700 phone?
My older N95-3, while expensive when I purchased it a year ago, is much less of a "loss" if I were
to damage it. My iPhone 3G is even less important to me. I keep that around as my "just kicking
around" phone.
While the convergence market is trying to cram everything into a single device - sometimes it's
just better to have two. The N810 is far closer to a "laptop substitute" than the N97 and that's
where it should stay.

Here's the story.
I brought a refurbished whitebook from apple a month ago.
Within that month i've had to have the logic board replaced and the keyboard/topcase replaced.
Now the Isight light keeps coming on and stopping me from using the camera. It does this roughly
every 4-5 boots. Its not a major issue but hey its an issue.
I've been through all the trouble shooting steps with support, such as resetting PRAM and SMC and
they think that the logic board will need replacing again.
I'm not to happy with this as like i said its only a month old. I was recomended by the tech to
call aftersales and explain the problem and request a replacement machine.
I was informed by aftersales that because it was a refurbished machine i wasnt elidgable for a
replacement.
well i wasnt too happy about this so i sent an email off to Mr Jobs and one of his VIP customer
relations people phoned me today. She's trying to find a replacement for me. I'm guessing it will
be another refurb the same spec as i brought which isnt a problem.
The problem i have now is,
1. on my machine i have upgraded the HD
2. I have also upgraed the RAM
3. I have brought applecare
I know that i will be able to transfer the RAM and HD easily but what about the applecare. I
literally brought it at the weekend and its still registering.
Dont get me wrong, At the time i was made and this is what made me send off my rant to steve. But
over the weekend i just resided my self to live with it. The refurb I recieved was in really good
condition and i was pleased with the cosmetics of the machine. I'm worried that if i do get a
replacement it wont be in as good condition
EIDT: I've just recieved an email from apple with an order number for a replacement

other on eBay as faulty for any enthusiast who may wish to try and repair it"

I've had it with Address Book. Of all the great apps we have on the Mac, Address Book is by far the
weakest link. And it's such an important work function! Forgive me if this has been covered before,
but I couldn't find a good post with deficiencies clearly spelled out. Here's what's critically
missing:
1. Copy Address -- I frequently need to add an address in another application. I just can't believe
that I have to open a separate window (Command I) to get the address in a format that I can copy it
and then paste it somewhere else and then have to edit all the unnecessary information out. Is
there an AppleScript that would allow me to do that while specifiying how many field items are
copied (i.e. full address, partial address, name and company)?
2. Autocopy -- How unbelievably unreliable is this function? It never works when you really need it
to work, like on Web pages, or names and companies without a physical street address.
3. Categories -- no auto-category setting. Very handy, given that you have cumbersomely drag the
contact to a category to categorize it.
4. Business card scanning plug-in -- While CardScan has finally been released for the Mac, it's
still very beta based on the reviews I have seen. Plus it costs a whopping $230.
5. Ease data entry -- This whole separate field entry is so arcane. Why can't I paste an entire
address in the address field and have it parse out all the fields, the way CardScan does it?
6. Fill in your own wish here -- I could go on and on, there are so many features missing form this
under-powered app.
Apple please pay attention to the basics in Snowleopard!!!!

this...is there any jabber client which is able to create new views for messages has has message

filtered and the data out of those message could be shown in the created view?/p pI wonder if there
is such a thing, if not, I wonder if this wouldn't be a nice idea for Gajim or PSI? /p

iInternational journal of cancer. Journal international du cancer, Vol. 76, No. 1. (30 March 1998),
pp. 29-34./ibr /br /Adult obesity has been associated with an increased risk of post-menopausal
breast cancer, but it is unclear whether this relationship reflects a causal role of obesity during
childhood and adolescence, of weight gain during adult life or of adult obesity per se. In a
population-based case-control study in all of Sweden, we included 3,345 (84% of all eligible) women
aged 50-74 years with invasive breast cancer, and 3,454 (82% of all selected) controls of similar
age. Mailed questionnaires and telephone interviews were used to collect detailed information on
anthropometric measures. Odds ratios were estimated through multiple logistic regression. Women
with the leanest somatotype at age 7 had about a 3-fold higher risk of breast cancer than the most
obese (P for trend 0.0009). A suggested protective effect of a high body mass at age 18 and a
detrimental influence of body mass 1 year prior to data collection largely reflected the effect of
weight gain after age 18, a strong predictor of breast cancer risk. Among women at least 20 years
post menopause, those who had gained 30 kg or more since age 18 had an odds ratio of 2.04 (95%
confidence interval 1.20-3.48) of breast cancer compared with those who had maintained their weight
unchanged. The effect of weight gain was unequivocal among non-users but not among users of hormone
replacement therapy. Our findings have important implications, suggesting weight preservation as a
means for prevention of post-menopausal breast cancer as well as a causal role of childhood body
build in breast cancer etiology.br /iC Magnusson, J Baron, I Persson, A Wolk, R Bergström, D

My iBook charger has stopped working, the iBook is well out of warranty by now, and i cant find any
replacement chargers for it. Instead of just buying another one, will apple replace my current one?
It was sparking on the cable that plugs into the computer and it looks like its been burnt, which
is probobly why it doesn't work anymore, is this a defect with apples chargers and will they
replace it even though my iBook is out of warranty?

href="http://lifehacker.com/5099225/i-want-sandy-stikkit-close-doors-december-8th"I Want Sandy
closes its doors next Monday/a, you may not have to wait long for a replacement: A group of
developers are a href="http://sandysback.blogspot.com/"working to build a free, open-source
Sandy/a, and they're hoping to resurrect as much of Sandy as they can from the startup graveyard.
Be sure to stop by the Sandy's Back blog or send a tweet @mysandy to let the developers know which
features they should tackle first. emThanks a href="http://www.joshcamson.com/"Joshua/a!/em/p br
