We would like to bring to your attention the new program for iPhone called EasyWakeup. EasyWakeup
is a much better alternative to a traditional alarm clock.
Have you ever slept your normal amount, but still felt horrible when you woke up? Or slept only
five hours, but then woke feeling fine? Every night you pass through several stages of sleep. And
your feeling in the morning depends on which stage you're in when you wake. It's much easier to
wake from a phase of light sleep. Smart EasyWakeup alarm clock determines your phase of sleep from
your movement, and wakes you at the most opportune moment. You just need to attach the iPhone to
your hand at night. You specify the alarm window when you want to be woken up, and EasyWakeup will
wake you during a phase of light sleep. You can attach the phone to your hand with a wristband or
sports cover.
I always had troubles waking up, always feeling miserable when getting up and running out of bed,
much like a steamtrain trying to make it's way out of the station, exhausting clouds of grey
smoke.
So I gave Easywakeup a try, I was sceptical at first, but all that changed, read on to know
why.
Me about Easywakeup;
The first issue I had was how to attach the iPhone to my wrist, as I do not own a sportscover, if
you have one, it solves the search for an ideal method.
You do not want your iphone detaching from your wrist, else all your troubles were for nothing, but
also you do not want your precious iPhone to get scratches while you are 'wearing' it in bed so a
sportscover would be ideal.
But I used an old wristband and some rope, you can use a lot of different designs, as long as your
iphone stays at your wrist and turn the screen to your skin.
Does it need to be on your wrist I hear you asking? Yes, because in your lightest sleepphase your
hands are moving more than your biceps are.
When i went to bed with my iPhone taped to my wrist I couln't resist thinking;
Steve Jobs would be smiling from ear to ear when he saw me like this, he'd say; "The iPhone is the
ideal companion, it's there all day, and from now on, it's there right by you when you wake
up."
Also my girlfriend made fun of me when i wore my iPhone on my wrist in bed...
The first night I made a mistake by putting my iPhone on silent, it still vibrates when the alarm
activates but I just plain ignored it and slept on.
The following night I thought about everything, activating airplanemode, reducing brightness,
autolock to never, deactivated silentmode, started easywakeup and went to sleep.
It woke me at 8:57 when my timewindow was between 8:45 and 9:15, i tried to go back to sleep but
felt no urge to stay in bed.
As I normally wake at 10:30 and still feel tired this is a huge improvement for me.
Although the iPhone is not known as a sleepphase detector, it does the trick quite well with this
app.
It's easy to use, intuitive and a great improvement over the stock alarm app.
It's not all perfect though;
What I think needs to be improved
1. Really need to be able to lock the iphone, my battery is totally drained (15% left) when I wake
up, nighttime is when I usually charge. Checking out Insomnia for iPhone, trying it myself, will
update this post when I know more.
2. Silentmode; the stock alarm app ignores the silentswitch and just blasts the music in your ears
to get you out of bed and grumble some more, so an adjustment or a warning concerning the
silentswitch would be welcome.
3. Using your own custom ringtones, at the moment you can only use the standard ringtones, not too
bad, but i love to wake up with September by Earth, Wind and Fire.
This app could be an Appstore app as it is now, it is not conflicting with the rules. When locked
mode is achieved it will be against the rules, but as of now it is still eligable for the Appstore,
although it eats batterypower.
