for deploying JavaFX on mobile devices, will be offered as well./pp class="ArticleBody"

JavaFX platform components, Sun will deliver JavaFX Development Environment, featuring plug-ins for

use JavaFX, said Singh. The environment includes a compiler and runtime tools, graphics, media, and

developers in building JavaFX applications./pp class="ArticleBody" page="1""Designers and

class="ArticleBody" page="1"Singh emphasized the Java underpinnings of JavaFX as an advantage. "We
think for developers to provide powerful applications that leverage the power of Java, JavaFX is an
ideal environment because we provide the deep integration with Java," he said. Developers can build
applications for a range of systems, enabled by the ubiquity of Java, he stressed. A JavaFX runtime

free of charge, the company plans to sell value-added services sitting top of the JavaFX runtime.
The company would not disclose what those services will be. "These applications and services would
leverage the media capabilities that are in the runtime," Singh said. Sun also intends to leverage
JavaFX to sell its hardware./pp class="ArticleBody" page="2"An early JavaFX developer, Jim Weaver,
has been impressed enough with JavaFX to set up his own a href="http://learnjavafx.typepad.com/"

class="regularArticleU"(Java SE 6u10)/a release, helps overcome the roadblock of browser wars that
prevented emergence of a ubiquitous Java virtual machine on the client./pp class="ArticleBody"
page="2""We're in a position where the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) will become ubiquitous
again," said Weaver, who is executive vice president at media company Veriana Networks. The Java
update solves deployment problems and makes running a JavaFX or Java application easier, he
said./pp class="ArticleBody" page="2"JavaFX, he said, offers a declarative syntax for expressing a
UI. It boasts 2D and graphical application benefits, he said. "The look that you'll be able to
create and that users are expecting now [is] more like an iPhone," Weaver said. Users will be
weaned away from underwhelming browser-based applications and gain graphically fluid and stunning
applications with JavaFX, he said./pp class="ArticleBody" page="2"JavaFX's close link to the Java
platform will appeal to large numbers of Java developers, said Jeffrey Hammond, senior analyst for
application development at Forrester Research. Inclusion of media codecs makes JavaFX a good option
compared to AJAX, he said./pp class="ArticleBody" page="2"But JavaFX does require that Java SE 6
u10 be installed on the client machine and is limited to a few platforms, he said. JavaFX, however,
could compete with Flash, Silverlight, and AJAX if Sun executes well./pp class="ArticleBody"
page="2""To paraphrase Churchill, we?re not at the beginning of the end of the evolution of the RIA
market, but we are at the end of the beginning. It?s not too late for Sun, but the next year will
be decisive," Hammond said. "If they can get good mobile platform support over the next year,
continue to enrich the control model, and get good penetration of the new JVM, JavaFX could become
a viable alternative to Flash, Silverlight and AJAX."/pp class="ArticleBody" page="2"Sun is
providing API documents for JavaFX along with more than 50 code samples applications for designers
and developers. A set of tutorials also is featured. This documentation and JavaFX runtime
technologies will be offered on a href="http://javafx.com/" target="_blank"
class="regularArticleU"javafx.com/a./pp class="ArticleBody" page="2"In conjunction with the JavaFX
deliverables, Sun is partnering with On2 Technologies, which will offer its Flix encoder for video

will be offered./p/divbr style=clear: both;/ a

Comics Should Be Good! -
1 days and 16 hours ago
Continuing from yesterday’s entry - here’s more of the high and lows of
Marvel Premiere:
Jumping ahead to issue #43, we find Paladin, the rather intriguing mercenary who
first popped up in Daredevil. I was re-reading this book not too long ago, having skipped the
credits page and it didn’t take me long to realize that it was written by Don McGregor, the
archenemy of the typewriter. Ugh, what a wordy mess! Now, I normally loooooove Tom Sutton’s
artwork, but it just doesn’t work here. Perhaps it’s the color job or just the shoddy
production, but everything gets blurred together and it’s extremely difficult to follow. In
the right hands, this could have worked out as a decent story. As it stands, I can only recommend
that you avoid it at all costs.
If I’ve been sounding a bit negative in discussing the last few issues, get ready for a
change of tone because I totally love the Scott Lang Ant-Man that pops up here
for a couple of issues. These are two fine, fine issues written by one of my all-time favourites,
Dave Michelinie. I met Dave last year, but got so wrapped up in telling him how much I loved his
Unknown Soldier that I forgot to mention that I loved how he brought back Ant-Man. These
issues also feature absolutely beautiful artwork by Byrne and Layton. This is very good stuff
– compelling storytelling and imaginative art. It’s definitely some of
the best comics of this whole series.
Skipping ahead to the three issue Black Panther arc, Ed Hannigan tried to tie up
the loose ends from Don McGregor’s KKK storyline in Jungle Action, all but
ignoring all of the craziness (and I mean that in a good way) that we saw in the Kirby series.
Hannigan does a pretty good job but, much like McGregor, his scripts are far too wordy. It can be
exhausting trying to trudge through some of the dialogue, but the overall concepts are good and
it’s a shame that the execution wasn’t better. I feel much the same about Jerry
Bingham’s pencils – sometimes they look ok, but other times they look
like they are straight out of 1981 issue of Charlton Bullseye (and I don’t mean that in a
good way). One of these issues has a great letter from Jim Oswley (Christopher Priest) commenting
on the portrayal of Harlem and black stereotypes in the Falcon issues. That’s the kind of
stuff you miss in trades.
Gene Day absolutely rocks in the Caleb Hammer issue, with help from Tony DeZ.
The first new western character introduce at Marvel in a decade. He’s rough and tumble
Pinkerton agent with a tragic past who resembles Clint Eastwood even more than Jonah Hex.
There’s not all that much new here, but it is a wonderfully delivered western story and a
nice change from the revolving door of second stringers. It’s quite incredible how much
background is crammed in here without really interfering with the action. It’s truly too
bad that westerns had fallen out of favor as I really think that Peter Gillis and Gene Day were
onto something here.
We talked a lot about Howard Chaykin creations and artwork in the earlier issues, and he now
returns with Dominic Fortune. Fortune is a character who, for all intents and
purposes originated at Atlas-Seaboard as the Scorpion. He’s a fun old school adventurer who
first joined the Marvel Universe in the mid-70s with infrequent appearances. This is a very, very
fun issue with Chaykin’s layouts beautifully finished by Terry Austin. What a treat it is
to see Austin’s work in all its glory. For those of you who’ve met him, you know that
Terry Austin is just about the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. This is a superb single issue
story – keep an eye out for it.
Finally, I’m going to leave you with Doctor Who. Aside from catching the
occasional episode on the Buffalo PBS station back in the early 80s, I have next to no background
with the good Doctor. These four books, which reprint the UK weeklies, are a lot of fun but the
real treat is to gaze at Dave Gibbons’ beautiful artwork. As an added bonus, there is some
new, US material by Dave Cockrum and Walt Simonson. Every time I see Cockrum artwork these days,
I kick myself for not fully recognizing how awesome he was while he was alive. For some reason,
one of these books throws in a Werewolf By Night story – I love those
oddities. I’d imagine that these are a must have for any Doctor Who fanatic.
So that’s a look at Marvel Premiere. I haven’t hit them all, but this should give you
a taste of what to expect. These books are permanent residents of dollar bins around the world,
so you can cherry pick the best of the lot without taking much of a financial hit.

JAlbum 8.1 JAlbum helps you make website albums of your digital photographs.
With JAlbum, no extra software is needed to view the albums, just your web browser. Unlike "server
side" album scripts, JAlbum albums can be served from a plain web server without scripting support.
You can also share your albums on CD-ROM. It is written after numerous disappointments with
existing album software. With JAlbum you have full control of the look of the generated album, not
just color theme and basic layout, still making an album is just a matter of drag and drop + a
button click if you prefer to use one of the many existing looks. It will process your images, make
index pages and slide show pages and even upload the final album to the Internet for your friends
to see.
WHAT'S NEWVersion 8.1:
News and updates
- Widget support! Add new functionality to your albums like visitor comments, view counters,
face recognition and more to come. Widgets work no matter where the album is hosted.
- Jalbum is now smart enough to figure out whether to make all or just make changes. You simply
press the "Make album" button
- New quick publish button. Publish and update your albums in one button click!
- Jalbum now allows you to sign in on startup. This simplifies several other usages
- On successful sign in, a jalbum.net hosting account is automatically set up (unless you have
other accounts already set up)
- On successful publishing, Jalbum guides you how to do more with your published albums (share
with friends, add widgets, manage on-line etc)
- The comment box in edit mode can now be expanded vertically
- Album uploads now show progress in MB instead of files. The progress indication is also more
accurate now.
- Updated "focal lengh 35mm eqvivalent" table to support more cameras. Thanks Armond!
- Jalbum now executes script if found in system/onstart.bsh on every startup
- Jalbum album RSS feed now includes camera information
- User variables can now be set per folder and image too. See edit mode
- User variables now ordered alphabetically
- User variables can now be deleted easily
- Accidental leading and trailing spaces in folder names are now trimmed
- Advanced: Added system property "subsampling" to override the calculated subsampling. Using
subsampling higher than 1 speeds up image loading and scaling and requires less RAM, but can
cause scaling side effects with images containing regular patterns in high frequencies.
- Developers: Jalbum's layout manager "RiverLayout" now properly handles invisible components
- Updated translations to over 10 languages. Thank you translators!
- Added a little "Easter egg". See if you can find it :)
Bug fixes
- Fixed bug causing void variables near every 1000 images if rows was set to 0
- ja:fileiterator in combination with dirs and nodirs didn't work right when using relative
references
- Bug causing null pointer exception when repairing broken links fixed
- Widget powered albums causing trouble with certain skins+browser combinations fixed
