Please help me choose the best one. I need something to back up my files as I only have 7 gigs
remaining on my MBP. I need it to be fast because I'll be working primarily with video/editing and
playing.
At the same time I don't want to shell out $300 or anything.
The only external 1TB they have here at USC is the LaCie designed by Neil whoever, looks pretty but
the specs seemed pretty slow (480mb/s) at $120.
Thanks for the advice in advance.

alt="" /br //div Finally, someone with more money that I have (I want a new MacBook Pro, but
haven't yet convinced myself to shell out the dough to replace my old yet trusty G4 12" Powerbook)
has put the new MBP and a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/10/14/new-macbook-pro/"those shiny
graphics chips/a to the test, and a
href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/154004/new_macbook_pro_boot_camp_gaming_benchmarks.html"drummed
up some real benchmarking numbers/a in Boot Camp. It turns out to be PC World, strangely enough.
And the verdict? Well, it's not quite so great.br /br /The good news is that the MacBook Pro is
faster than ever, and graphics have significantly improved. And trust us, any improvement over the
old chips is a step in the right direction. br /br /The bad news is that in a practical situation
(like playing a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crysis"the emCrysis/em demo/a, which is actually
about a year old at this point), a MacBook Pro in Boot Camp at the highest settings isn't actually
playable, and the 15 fps you might squeeze out of it on a good day still can't compare to a
href="http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1211/2/crysis_demo_performance_analysis/index.html"the 50
fps you can get out of even average video cards/a in a Windows PC. If the graphics are turned down,
it's a different story -- a
href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/10/16/putting-the-macbook-through-the-paces-with-warhammer-online/"we've
seen a new MBP run games well/a in Boot Camp already, so it'll play, but Apple still has a ways to
go to be competitive with brand new games.br /br /But let's keep this all in perspective -- it's
very good news when you compare the new MacBook Pros to the old ones. Apple is at least realizing
that 3D performance needs an upgrade in their units. Maybe next time around they can a
href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/02/22/current-and-future-gaming-on-the-mac/"bring some software
updates into the mix/a as well, and we can start to see some real competition in high-end
performance.p style="padding:5px;clear:both;"a href="http://www.tuaw.com"TUAW/aa

too much for one? Well, if you already own an iPhone, then you’ll be able to download the
Numberkey software to your iPhone, and install the app on your Mac as well. After that, your iPhone
will be able to display a virtual numeric keypad, which will talk to your Mac via Wi-Fi. For $1.99,
it’s cheaper than buying a separate numeric pad and you won’t even need to carry an
extra device around. /p pa

Handhelds

We noticed
this on AT&T's web store in the wee hours this morning, and sure enough, they've gone ahead
and announced the LG Incite in all its
official glory today (normally the announcement comes before the web store stuff, but
whatever). It's got WiFi, a 3-megapixel camera, a 3-inch touchscreen equipped with haptics and 400
x 240 resolution, AT&T Navigator, microSD support up to 16GB, triband HSDPA, and Windows Mobile
6.1 -- in other words, LG's produced a nice QWERTY-less foil to the Fuze here. It's available straight away in stores,
too, as long as you're willing to shell out the $199.99 on contract after rebates.
LG
Incite for AT&T, now with more official originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 13:33:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
