width="278" height="196" align="right" hspace="4" vspace="2" align="right" / Windows only: The free
Emerge Alternative Desktop Shell replaces Windows' taskbar, Start menu, and right-click context
menu with a super-minimalistic version. In short, Emerge leaves you with essentially an empty
desktop, a clean slate for some killer customizations. For example, yesterday you saw how a
href="http://lifehacker.com/5058949/windows-vista-with-a-live-thumbnail-sidebar"reader MERSC uses
Emerge to clear space for a souped-up Object Dock taskbar/a. Emerge also clears away icons and
menus Launchy users don't need. When you first install Emerge, you may feel a bit out of
sortsmdash;where do you click when there's no Start menu? Right click on your desktop to get access
to your Start menu programs and quick launch toolbar and Emerge's settings. Ctrl+Click on the
Emerge Tray (upper left hand corner on your desktop by default), to further customize the look and
feel of the tray. The learning curve on Emerge isn't flat, but poking through the documentation and
trying out various settings will make the dedicated desktop customizer very happy. Emerge is a free
download for Windows only. Got another Windows shell replacement you like better than Emerge? Post

OmniOutliner Pro 3.7.1 beta 1 OmniOutliner Pro is a flexible program for creating, collecting,
and organizing information. Give your creativity a kick start by using an application that's
actually designed to help you think. It's like having an extra brain - one that doesn't keep losing
the car keys.
You can use OmniOutliner's document structure to create hierarchies of main headings and
subpoints that can be expanded and collapsed, which are immensely useful when it comes to
brainstorming new ideas, drilling out specifics, and lining up steps needed to get everything
done. But you aren't limited to outlines - you've got multiple columns, smart checkboxes,
customizable popup lists, and an Ÿber-innovative styles system at your disposal.
Use OmniOutliner to draft to-do lists, create agendas, manage tasks, track expenses, take notes,
plan events, write screenplays...and just about anything else you can think of.
It's a smarter way to write, a more productive way to stay organized. Whatever your project,
OmniOutliner has the tools you need to get the job done.
However, we didn't stop there - some features are just more relevant to the power user, and
that's why we've created a "Pro" version of OmniOutliner with even more options.
OmniOutliner Professional includes in-depth outlining features like folded editing, clipping
service support, audio recording, a new sections drawer, and saved templates. With OmniOutliner
Professional, you can actively hide and display the information in your outlines - or quickly
jump from one place to another - so you can save time and be more productive by focusing on
exactly what you want to see. The new Names Styles feature in OmniOutliner Professional gives you
even more options for fast and powerful editing. Download the Pro version today and try it for
yourself!
WHAT'S NEWVersion 3.7.1b1:
- No changes from RC1. Complete list of changes since 3.6.5:
- Features
- 10.5: QuickLook support! QuickLook previews are dynamically generated with XSLT on the
source code using the same transform as the dynamic HTML export. This means you can interact
with your outline in the same way with collapsing and expanding sections.
- 10.5: Added high-res versions of the app, document, and OPML icons.
- Added support for the OmniFocus protocol so links can be manually typed or scripted.
- HTML/DHTML Export:
- Mixed state checkboxes in a checkbox type column will now appear.
- Fixed rendering issues of checkboxes in additional checkbox columns.
- Added shading to the summary cells like seen onscreen.
- Made some other fixes to render empty cells correctly and adjusted checkbox spacing.
- Stability
- Changed how backups are saved to remove the 16MB file limit imposed by saving to the
resource fork that would cause backups to fail silently. The backup is now written out to
.OOBK inside the document's file wrapper. *Note: If you modified your file to be flat, the
backup will still be saved to the resource fork with the 16MB limit.*
- Fixed a hang that resulted from doing a 'Replace All' when your replacement string
contained your search string.
- Fixed a crasher that was caused by turning off attachment tags while the title was being
edited.
- Fixed a hang that could be hit from having a search term in the sidebar and entering data
very quickly.
- Stopping an audio recording will now mark the document dirty prompting you to save if you
try to close the window.
- Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue with not correctly updating the display of the outline title when the
title is set to 'Always'.
- Fixed a regression with the Text Border color not properly being set on first activation.
- Fixed a regression that was causing OmniOutliner to become the active app when the
clipping service was used.
- Fixed the regular expression parser to handle %20 correctly.
- Added a workaround that allows custom key bindings for the 'New From Template' options
again without causing the slow down previously experienced.
- 10.5: Emails dragged in from Apple Mail will now always correctly show the subject.
- 10.5: It is possible to access documents by their name without the file extension again
through AppleScript.
- 10.5: Fixed an issue with EPS generated PDFs being low resolution.
- 10.5: Find window will now appear in the space you called it from instead of the space it
first opened in.
- Miscellaneous
- Added two new defaults to support the keyboard changes already made in OmniFocus,
OOShouldEditNotesOnEnterKey and OOShouldToggleEditingWithEscapeKey.
The default values of these are set so there is no changed in enter and escape key
behavior over previous OO3 versions. To match OmniFocus's enter key behavior, enter the
following without the quotes into Terminal.app while OmniOutliner is closed:
For pro - "defaults write com.omnigroup.OmniOutlinerPro3 OOShouldEditNotesOnEnterKey
-bool false"
For standard: "defaults write com.omnigroup.OmniOutliner3 OOShouldEditNotesOnEnterKey
-bool false"
- OmniOutliner is now code signed.
- Updated the about info with the new Omni building address

Hi,
Within the last week or so I have noticed that "Desktop" shows up 4 times in the places sidebar
when I go to File --> Open from any program. In finder itself I don't have "Desktop" into the
places sidebar. I tried putting Desktop into the sidebar, and then removing it to see if that would
remove it from the File --> Open window from any program, which didn't result in any change. I
then thought Spaces could be the culprit, since I have four desktops; so I disabled spaces, and the
annoyance remained. So if anyone has seen or had this happen to them, and fixed it, that would
great. I have two screen shots, from two different programs showing what is going on, to show it
isn't just on applications or type of applications problem.
Thanks
