As far as I can tell, Clipse's Pusha T and Malice mostly avoid the easy, obvious trick of changing "Addiction" from a metaphor about lust to something literal about the MCs' favorite subject. Although critics who still mistakenly thought Jay-Z was talking about Kanye West when he talked on emAmerican Gangster/em about "when I sling yay" should be enlightened by one of Pusha's timelier quips: "em808s and Heartbreak/em? That's the other Ye."/p pNo, instead Clipse's addiction appears to be not the dope game but the rap game. If it sounds a little weird to proclaim that on a mixtape advertising your clothing line, well, Pusha has no problem with sarcasm, either: "It's only lifestyle music," he says, a minute or so after spitting his version of the Streets' "Be brave, clench fist" ("Touch key, blog right"). Malice walks in shooting, his voice edged as usual with tough-guy menace: "I need an intervention to release my inhibitions." The emOff the Wall/em-interpolating original, produced by Leslie himself, is plenty minimal enough to ensure Clipse's wordplay still pops like gunplay. If "Addiction" isn't going to make anybody forget past Clipse standouts like "Wamp Wamp", "Zen", and "Grindin'", at least it's another reason to anticipate their forthcoming strongema href="/article/news/142501-clipse-album-gets-title-rick-rubin-production"Till the Casket Drops/a/em LP.
