pOne wonders sometimes, with all the other stuff they've always got going on, if the members of a
href="http://www.sonicyouth.com/"strongSonic Youth/strong/a ever have to remind themselves that
they're in Sonic Youth. Like, can you picture Thurston, jamming out with a
href="/article/record_review/145413-original-silence-the-second-original-silence"strongOriginal
Silence/strong/a, thinking, "Oh, crap, a
href="/article/news/145351-sonic-youth-link-with-matador-for-next-album"strongwe just signed to

href="/article/record_review/50830-free-kitten-inherit"stronghanging out with Yoshimi and Julie
Cafritz/strong/a and realizes she's gotta write a bassline for that pesky other band of hers?
There's been a wealth of happenings with the members of Sonic Youth lately, though precious little
of it has to do with Sonic Youth proper./p pBut more about those side gigs in a minute.../p
pFirstly, the four Yoofs managed to get together in the same room recently to collaborate
withnbsp;Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and composer Takehisa Kosugi on a brand new piece of
music. The piece will soundtrack a new work by the a href="http://www.merce.org/"strongMerce
Cunningham Dance Company/strong/a that will debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in mid-April, in
celebration of choreographer Merce Cunningham's 90th birthday. The a
href="http://www.bam.org/view.aspx?pid=703"strongMerce Cunningham at 90/strong/a piece will be
performed on April 16-19. (You might remember the Merce Cunningham Dance Company as being the

Radiohead and Sigur Roacute;s together/strong/a back in 2003.) br /br /So, yeah. Sonic Youth + Led
Zeppelin + dancers = MASSIVE SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM EXPLOSION!!!/p pAlso, that traveling,

to the Kunsthalle in Dusseldorf, Germany from January 31-April 26, Konsthall in Malmo, Sweden May
29-September 6, and Centro Huarte de Arte Contemporaneo in Navarra/Nafarroa, Spain from October
2009 through January 2010.br /br /Other than that, and presumably working on their Matador debut,
Sonic Youth as a unit has been pretty quiet recently. Individually, though, they have a hell of a
lot going on.br /br /Thurston Moore's a href="http://www.ecstaticpeace.com/"strongEcstatic
Peace/strong/a label recently offered up an LP from a trio comprised of saxophonist Paul Flaherty,
Vampire Belt guitarist (and Thurston's partner in Northampton Wools) Bill Nace, and Thurston
himself. The three-track set, emFlaherty/Nace/Moore/em, was crafted last winter, and sports three
very amusingly-titled tracks: "Sex", "Drugs" and "Lavender". Northampton Wools promise their debut
LP from the label shortly, and Ecstatic Peace will also issue an album by Hat City Initiative, a
group featuring Thurston and his brother Gene Moore, as well as a forthcoming collaboration between
Thurston and noise god Prurient. Thurston also just issued an ultra-limited edition cassette to a
href="http://www.destructiveindustries.net/"strongDestructive Industries/strong/a which they call
his "most encompassing and introverted work to date". We'd tell you more about it, except it is
sold the hell out. Moore also recently a

director Spike Jonze/strong/a for emInterview /emmagazine, and introduced a screening of David
Bowie videos at NYC's Museum of Modern Art earlier this week.br /br /Moving on, Sonic Youth drummer
Steve Shelley pops up on Spanish singer a href="http://www.christinarosenvinge.com/"strongChristina
Rosenvinge/strong/a's recent album emTu Labio Superior/em, which was recorded and mixed by a

Our pal Christopher Campbell has put together a pretty cool top ten list over at Spout Blog. Inspired by
the frenzy surrounding Paramore, who has been fortunate enough to land two songs on the Twilight
soundtrack, he's put together a list of one hit wonders made by the movies. As memorable (and
impossible to eradicate from easy listening stations) as Lookin' For Love, King of Wishful
Thinking, and Stay (I Missed You) are, they're really just that one song from that one movie -- you
know the one ... yeah, that movie! (By the way, the above three are from Urban Cowboy, Pretty
Woman, and Reality Bites, respectively.)
The best thing about these lists is the debate they inspire. I disagree that Chris Isaak's Wicked
Game fits the mold, as I think it's associated less with Wild at Heart than with a sandy and sexy
Helena Christensen. In coming up with nominations of our own, Scott Weinberg and I immediately
disagreed on whether Peter Cetera and Glory of Love from Karate Kid II qualified, or if Cetera
being in Chicago was an automatic pass. (I say no, Scott says yes.) But we did manage to nominate
Better Than Ezra's Circle of Friends from Empire Records, Gerard McMann's Cry Little Sister from
The Lost Boys, and Chris DeBurgh's Lady in Red from Working Girl. Campbell, with his vast
knowledge, could veto all three. What about you, readers? Give us some of your nominations, debate
the popularity of Chris Isaak, or at least help us decide whether Glory of Love qualifies.

//div pNot so longnbsp;ago, I was given a preview of a href="http://www.resetgeneration.com/"Reset
Generation/a, an "action-puzzle" game that draws elements from the old-school arcade titles. There
are numerous details that gamers would get, like the hedgehog, plumber, space invader and so on.
Even the 8-bit soundtrack will remind you of the old good days. /p pThe game opposes two (human or
bot) players, but the twist is that you can network-play from a PC or a Phone (PC vs. phone, phone
vs. phone, I'm not sure for PC vs. PC). the PC version of the game is free, while the handheld
version costs about 10 Euros. If you wonder, Mac OS X and Linux versions are on the way./p pThe
game has been designed for one-handed operation andnbsp;Nokia assures me that this is the most
played N-Gage gavenbsp;ever. As with any networked game, this is much more fun when playing against
a buddy than a computer. You try it in the widget in the full post. Drop a comment to tell us what

Not surprisingly, the iTunes list is much more reflective of the pop charts, while Last.fm
– a music discovery service – has some lesser known artists
in its rankings. Interesting to note is the absence of hip-hop on the Last.fm list, and the lack
of Country on both end-of-year charts. Coldplay, however, appears to be universally popular.

This is the soundtrack to the Berlin concert film, recorded over four days in 2006 with
Antony, Rob Wassermann and many other guests. Originally released in 1973, Lou Reed's
Berlin had the unfortunate timing to be following up the massive arena rock hit
Transformer and disappeared quietly before being rediscovered by critics. This was the
first time Reed performed the album live in it's entirety and adds "Sweet Jane" and "Candy Says" as
encores. Not only is the recording quality crisp and raw, but Reed sounds amazing. -

YouTube, the video-sharing Web site owned by Google Inc.,
announced an online classical-music contest whose winners will gather at New York’s
Carnegie Hall and perform a specially written orchestral work. Musicians have until Jan. 28 to
video themselves each playing their instrument’s segment in the five-minute piece by Tan
Dun, composer of music for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the soundtrack to Ang Lee’s
2000 movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” The project’s partners include the
London Symphony Orchestra and Michael Tilson Thomas, music director of the San Francisco Symphony
and artistic director of the New World Symphony.
“There are a phenomenal number of communities out there in the classical space already on
YouTube,” Ed Sanders, product marketing manager for YouTube, told a London press conference
via satellite from New York yesterday. He said he hoped the project would help bring together
these scattered musicians. As an example, a violinist may go to the YouTube Symphony Orchestra
Web page, pick “violin” from the drop-down menu, download the sheet music, and get
online tips from an LSO violinist on how to play it. Then the musician plays the violin part on
camera and posts the video. Winners will be flown to New York in April for a three-day
“summit” led by Tilson Thomas, and will perform Tan Dun’s work at Carnegie Hall
on April 15. Their original video clips will be merged into a YouTube symphony posted on the
site.
Last week, I dropped by the PlayStation.Blog to find out what you wanted to know about Ubisoft’s new release, Prince of Persia. And to my excitement,
there were well over a hundred questions about the first Prince of Persia game on the PS3. I took
the time to answer some of the most interesting questions regarding everything from combat to the
game’s new art style. Thanks for your support, and don’t forget that Prince of Persia
is available today! Charliesdad asked: Wondering how you addressed the
balance issues from earlier entries in the series. For example, Sands of Time was amazing, but
going back to it recently the combat wore thin after a while (especially in the first big group
fight) to be followed by long stretches of almost no combat. Does the new game fall on one side or
the other or is there a middle ground that you all shot for and hit? And Demo tomorrow?
Maybe?
First, one of our main goals in combat was to make every fight grandiose and meaningful, to
make every encounter feel more epic. Thus, we decided to make the new combat system a duel mode
in which every enemy has special attributes, a unique personality, cool moves, and his strengths
and weaknesses. Having one enemy to fight at one time gave us much more possibility to push this
encounter to the limit. Every enemy is as strong as the Prince and will seize his chance to use
the environment, his corrupted abilities to counter every mistake the player makes. Every enemy
has a background and their own personal objectives that will help push the story forward. Also,
there are multiple combat moves and these will take some time to figure them all out and access
the most spectacular combos. Using your glove, Elika, your sword and acrobatics, players will be
able to combine those to create some breathtaking moves. This new combat system is not meant to
be button mashed, but instead requires timing, strategy and the right combo depending on the
situation. Also, many quick real-time mini-games where the player has a little fraction of time
to react will keep the tension high. The battle system uses some dramatic camera shots that make
every fight feel even more epic. Battles will take place usually before saving a fertile ground
and pushing away the Corruption. There are different challenges before healing a fertile ground,
one might be an acrobatic challenge, a puzzle, a fight and a lot of them are mixes of them
all.
Sorry, there are no demo plans at this time.
KingBroly asked: What’s the framerate like on the PS3 version? I’ve heard
this game employs the same engine as Assassin’s Creed, and the framerate on the PS3 version
of that…not so good.
Fluidity of control and animation quality are hallmarks of Prince Of Persia games. We would
never ship a POP title unless we were confident the player could fully appreciate the movement of
the Prince in acrobatics and combat and – simply put
– framerate hiccups get in the way of that. They break the </p> We
have some of the most talented PS3 engineers at Ubisoft working for us on POP (and Ubisoft has
now made quite a few PS3 titles) and I can assure you the performance on the PS3 is the same as
the 360 – a solid 30fps throughout the game.
narde15 asked: are their any trophies?
POP does indeed ship with trophies from day one.
FeaturePreacher asked: Will the prince be able to
use different weapons besides the sword that is seen in gameplay videos?
AND
Will the prince be able to level up his combat abilities? I hope the prince has a long list of
combat combinations. Does he?
We want the player to feel like the Prince is an adventurer with a lot of experience already
– he is an acrobatic warrior who has already been through and seen a
lot. As such it made sense to us that he start out this adventure with all his abiliti
