Planet Maemo -
4 hours and 35 minutes ago
Nokia World Event has finished, and the
N97 (pdf/160
KB) was announced, but, what about Maemo? Any news about new Maemo device/s? It seems not,
but…
- It seems that Ovi is the great services strategy
for Nokia for next year, so I suppose that any new NSeries device will
integrate these services (specially after seeing
Niklas Savander keynote)
- The N97 user interface might be showing some ideas about what can we expect from new Maemo
user interface
- New Maemo devices will be OMAP3 based, but it
seems that N97 comes with other
processor (Unconfirmed)
And some regrets after all. I’ve seen/hear a lot of time the word open in
the presentations but:
And this event has left a great keynote,
the one from Ray Hammond, and a great quote from Anssi Vanjoki:
I want to surf the entire internet, not just some pieces of the internet
Me too, but my desktop computer is not the same that my mobile computer, so I can’t expect
the same user experience in both machines, but I can expect an optimized user experience for the
context I am using my computer (whatever my computer or context are). But, that’s another
story…

pRoberts has the welfare of housewives (and househusbands) in mind when it launched its latest DAB
radio that is specially designed to fit under kitchen counters, helping you save on essential
counter-top space - not to mention reducing the risk of accidentally frying the circuits of the DAB
radio via spilt liquids. This new DAB/FM RDS Kitchen Radio comes with a built-in under cupboard
fixing bracket and features a control panel that is a snap to clean in addition to sensor touch
controls for easy navigation. Other features include an instant SD record function, PausePlus and
rewind functions for cooks who are knee deep in business. With the use of an SD memory card, this
means you can also playback your favorite MP3s. An egg timer function rounds up the list of

width="1" height="1" //divpStrap a polygraph to Sir Alex Ferguson and he might just be forced to
admit that he often finds the Carling Cup little more than a hindrance in a cluttered fixture list.
At this stage of the competition the good definitely outweighs the bad and Manchester United will
take their place in the semi-finals as the favourites to reach, and win, another Wembley
final./ppEven with a vastly weakened side they were far too good for a Blackburn team teetering on
the brink of a full-blown crisis, with Paul Ince facing voluble abuse from the small band of away
supporters. There were chants of "We want Incey out" and "You don't know what you're doing" and the
name of the club's former manager Graeme Souness was sung./ppThis was certainly a chastening
experience for Ince on the ground where he once played with such distinction. Carlos Tevez was
magnificent, scoring twice and taking much of the credit for forcing Aaron Mokoena into an own
goal. Nani completed United's scoring and Blackburn's goals, via Benni McCarthy and Matt
Derbyshire, had little impact, coming with the score at 2-0 and then 4-1. /ppFerguson watched this
unfold from a seat high in the South Stand, having been banished from the dugout as penance for
angrily confronting the referee Mike Dean after their recent game against Hull City. In truth, it
was little more than a minor inconvenience, but a bitingly cold one, too, on a night when Mike
Phelan and the other coaching staff could make use of the specially heated seats that Ferguson
asked to be installed a couple of years ago./ppThe United manager had made 10 changes from the team
that beat Manchester City on Sunday and it was clear that even if Ronaldo had not been suspended he
would have been given the night off. This was an experimental side of fringe players, the
Portuguese-speaking clan of Anderson, Nani, Rodrigo Possebon and Rafael da Silva, plus a couple of
older heads in Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. Ferguson had taken a calculated risk and, in the end,
he was entitled to feel he got it just right./ppWith so many changes, it was probably only to be
expected there would be spells when United did not play with the usual fluency and penetration.
Blackburn are on a miserable run of form and, after a subdued start from the home side, it soon
became apparent why Ince's team have not kept a clean sheet since mid-October./ppThe opening goal
came from a Ryan Giggs free-kick and was credited to Carlos Tevez. It was a popular call as Tevez
is a favourite of the Old Trafford crowd in what has become a difficult period for him in the wake
of Dimitar Berbatov's signing. Replays, however, confirmed that Tevez's only role had been to apply
pressure to Aaron Mokoena at the far post. With the striker coming from behind, Mokoena tried to
head the ball clear but, losing balance, succeeded only in diverting it beyond Robinson for an own
goal./ppUntil that point United had threatened only sporadically and Nani was demonstrating why he
must be considered the player most at risk from the arrival in January of the Serbia international
Zoran Tosic. Nani's slow development should be a cause of consternation for Ferguson given that the
Portuguese international cost more than Ronaldo, but five minutes before the interval there was a
demonstration of what he is capable of. The one-two with Tevez was fast and incisive and Nani's
right-foot shot was precise to made it 2-0./ppFerguson has lost only two of the 33 games at Old
Trafford in which he has faced teams managed by his former players. Briefly, Blackburn threatened
to dent that record when the half-time substitute McCarthy ran on to Robinson's long goal-kick and,
having benefited from Neville's slow reactions, lashed a right-foot volley past Ben Foster./ppThis
was the night when Foster finally made his home debut for United, almost three and a half years
since signing from Stoke City. Ince could reflect that his team made it a busier 90 minutes for the
goalkeeper than Edwin can der Sar often faces but it was only a crumb of consolation given the way
Blackburn's defence collapsed. Within two minutes Andre Ooijer had brought down Tevez, running on
to Giggs's through ball and the Argentinian made it 3-1 from the penalty spot./ppThe outstanding
moment of the night followed four minutes later. Anderson was involved three times, Giggs once and
Tevez twice, as United's sharp, incisive passing and movement made traffic cones out of their
opponents. It finished with Anderson running clear, with the chance to score his first-ever United
goal. His unselfishness could only be admired as he squared the ball for Tevez to roll it into an
empty net. It was a goal that deserved every superlative going. /ppThe game was won and it was
inconsequential when Derbyshire stabbed the ball past Foster with five minutes to go and Benni
McCarthy scored from Derbyshire's cross./pdiv style="float: left; margin-right: 10px;

YouTube and the London Symphony
Orchestra, along with a consortium of other organizations, are sponsoring an innovative
project to promote classical music through the Internet — a competition for the chance to
play in the specially created YouTube Symphony Orchestra, which will perform on April 15 at New
York’s Carnegie Hall, with musicians auditioning by submitting videos to YouTube. The
celebrated Chinese American composer Tan Dun, best
known for his score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, has written a five-minute orchestral work
that will serve as the audition piece. There are parts for all the standard orchestral
instruments, and even musicians who play non-traditional, non-Western instruments are invited to
participate by choosing an orchestral part playable on their instrument. Musicians download a
copy of their part and practice it while watching a video of the composer conducting it. (The
videos for the different instruments are individually tailored, so that the cues the conductor
gives are appropriate for each instrument.) The musicians then videotape themselves playing their
part, following the conductor’s lead. They also submit a video of a solo performance that
shows off their particular musical strengths. A panel will pick the best performances, and the
videos of the finalists will be posted on YouTube, so that viewers can vote on their favorites.
Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas will pick the winners from the viewers’ top choices. The
selected orchestral musicians (probably about 80), as well as additional qualified soloists, will
be brought to New York, all expenses paid, for the gala performance. A composite video of Tan
Dun’s piece using the submitted videos will also be posted on YouTube.
Here’s Tan Dun conducting the London Symphony in his new piece.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqiro1kdRlw
Go to YouTube’s official
competition page to download your music and submit your performance.
The deadline for submissions is January 29, 2009, so start practicing and take advantage of this
incredible opportunity to play in a top-notch orchestra!

YouTube, the video-sharing Web site owned by Google Inc.,
announced an online classical-music contest whose winners will gather at New York’s
Carnegie Hall and perform a specially written orchestral work. Musicians have until Jan. 28 to
video themselves each playing their instrument’s segment in the five-minute piece by Tan
Dun, composer of music for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the soundtrack to Ang Lee’s
2000 movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” The project’s partners include the
London Symphony Orchestra and Michael Tilson Thomas, music director of the San Francisco Symphony
and artistic director of the New World Symphony.
“There are a phenomenal number of communities out there in the classical space already on
YouTube,” Ed Sanders, product marketing manager for YouTube, told a London press conference
via satellite from New York yesterday. He said he hoped the project would help bring together
these scattered musicians. As an example, a violinist may go to the YouTube Symphony Orchestra
Web page, pick “violin” from the drop-down menu, download the sheet music, and get
online tips from an LSO violinist on how to play it. Then the musician plays the violin part on
camera and posts the video. Winners will be flown to New York in April for a three-day
“summit” led by Tilson Thomas, and will perform Tan Dun’s work at Carnegie Hall
on April 15. Their original video clips will be merged into a YouTube symphony posted on the
site.

Publication Date: 2008 Nov 28 PMID: 19040747br/Authors: Xia, J. - Bjorndahl, T. C. - Tang, P. -
Wishart, D. S.br/Journal: BMC Bioinformaticsbr/br/ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: One-dimensional (1D) 1H
nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is widely used in metabolomic studies involving
biofluids and tissue extracts. There are several software packages that support compound
identification and quantification via 1D 1H NMR by spectral fitting techniques. Because 1D 1H NMR
spectra are characterized by extensive peak overlap or spectral congestion, two-dimensional (2D)
NMR, with its increased spectral resolution, could potentially improve and even automate compound
identification or quantification. However, the lack of dedicated software for this purpose
significantly restricts the application of 2D NMR methods to most metabolomic studies. RESULTS: We
describe a standalone graphics software tool, called MetaboMiner, which can be used to
automatically or semi-automatically identify metabolites in complex biofluids from 2D NMR spectra.
MetaboMiner is able to handle both 1H-1H total correlation spectroscopy (TOCSY) and 1H-13C
heteronuclear single quantum correlation (HSQC) data. It identifies compounds by comparing 2D
spectral patterns in the NMR spectrum of the biofluid mixture with specially constructed libraries
containing reference spectra of ~500 pure compounds. Tests using a variety of synthetic and real
spectra of compound mixtures showed that MetaboMiner is able to identify 80% of detectable
metabolites from good quality NMR spectra. CONCLUSIONS: MetaboMiner is a freely available,
easy-to-use, NMR-based metabolomics tool that facilitates automatic peak processing, rapid compound
identification, and facile spectrum annotation from either 2D TOCSY or HSQC spectra. Using
comprehensive reference libraries coupled with robust algorithms for peak matching and compound
identification, the program greatly simplifies the process of metabolite identification in complex
2D NMR spectra.br/br/post to: a href =

Terrible!!! - I take back all the things I said about it. It may have a little sub-woofer, but this
is not helping. The sound transfer through USB maybe the reason. There is this dying robot echo,
very un-natural tiny metal particle screeching cheap echo... this is specially the case when you
use the EQ or Sound enhancement.
I apologies if I've mislead anyone:o I'm gonna have to get some decent speakers:mad:
Cheap bastards:apple:
or hopefully it can be fixed via firm/software? don't know...

href="http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2008/11/new_lenovo_security_feature_locks_down_thinkpads.html"sending
a text message to lockdown the laptop/a, but will focus on Intel's Anti-Theft PC Protection
hardware instead. Being part of the vPro Technology component of the Centrino 2 platform, this
special hardware will empower specially equipped Lenovo T400 14.1" laptops with subscriptions to
Absolute's Computrace security-software service. The IT admin has the power to choose to configure
the anti-theft technology to lock an individual laptop if it fails to "check in" over the internet
to the Absolute Monitoring Center within a specified period of time, and if the laptop has been
reported as stolen, the admin can designate it to be locked instantly. Those who choose not to pick
up a Computrace subscription, the Intel Anti-Theft PC Protection hardware still works great by
locking a laptop after a predetermined number of failed password attempts. Expect to see the first
batch of security-enhanced T400s will ship later this December./P pPermalink: a
